Game crash at 10% on loading screen

  • Game crash at 10% on loading screen

    Hello. Major Tom having Major issues. Downloaded and played the game
    months ago on steam and played with no issues. Decided to leave the game
    until the game had been developed more. Recently have started (trying)
    to play the game. It gets to main menu but when i try to 'create new
    world' it gets to 10% on the loading screen then crashes to desktop.


    Things i have tried:
    Updating nvidia drivers (including legacy)
    Updating Nvidia PysX
    Updating Java
    Assigning graphics card to risingworldx64.exe and java
    Modifying ALL graphics settings
    Running as admin and in compatibility mode for both steam and risingworldx64.exe
    Disabling and adding an exception in AVG
    Creating a shortcut for rising world on desktop and altering permissions
    Validating game files via steam

    Hardware/ Software:
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 960
    8192mB RAM
    Intel Core i5-4430
    Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5 motherboard
    AVG anti-virus
    Windows 10

    Really think this game has potential (especially as far as ambience is
    concerned, very tranquil) so would like to see the progress you guys
    have made!

    Did you make a backup of the map before the update? Then use the backup and try to convert it again.
  • What sort of crash do you get exactly? Do you just crash to the desktop without any error messages, or does an error dialog pop up?
    If it crashes without notification, please have a look if there is a recent file called "hs_err_pid" in your game directory. Please upload this file here :)

    However, if you get an error message, please post the error message here (or alternatively have a look for a recent "errorlog" in your game directory).

    Did you try to load another world? Or maybe create a world with a different name (i.e. a name that hasn't been used before for other worlds)?
  • After attempting any of the fixes i listed above I deleted the new world i tried to create and used new world name . Crashes straight to desktop with no error message every time. I assume the error message will appear in C :\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RisingWorld? if so I can't see any file called "hs_err_pid". Am i missing something?!
  • Yes, the hs_err_pid file is supposed to be in that directory... it's strange that there is no such file ?( What antivirus program do you use? Maybe try to put Rising World on the exception list of your antivirus program (or alternatively disable it temporarily) and see if the crash still occurs. Maybe also try to run Steam as administrator.

    If this does not work, maybe enable the debug log. To do that, go to your game directory and open the "config.properties" file with a text editor. Set "game_debug_console" to true, then save the file and run the game again. Try to load or create a world, and once it's crashed, go to the "Logs" folder in your game directory and upload the latest log file here :)

  • The last file contained an extra 1kb of data so i guess it must have picked up something new. Plus like i say it got to 32% instead of 10% this time so something has changed with the game. All my computer an game settings are identical to the ones when i sent you the first error reports. Hope u can figure something out, really can't wait to see the progress u guys have made :D.

  • Your log files say "WARNING: Selected display mode: 1920 x 1080 x 0 @0Hz" that may be your problem?

    There is a config file in the games root that contains settings where you can change the resolution.

    If you're not comfortable editing config files I would suggest uninstalling the game, deleting any leftover files (particular the config file), reboot, and reinstall.

    Or you could wait to see what Red says.

    P.s. when deleting files it's always best practice to rename the file to filename.extension.old - just in case you need to reverse what you did!

  • Are you running anything else at the same time? You might want to try running the Rising World in Safe Mode with networking (just to test).

    I have found on my rig that Rising World will fail to start if I'm using Window Media player when it is playing certain video files with certain codecs.

    Conflict of resources. . .

    Just an idea you could try whilst waiting for the expert!

  • Me too, but without HashTag. I thought it revers to Java - I probable didn't have updated jet. Perhaps a thought.
    But I have an old PC and it's time to renew it.

    Edit: I restarted it untill it runs. I closed services/ programms and gave more priority. - Standalone.

  • Thanks for the new log! It definitely contains more information than the old one ^^

    However, basically the log is fine. There are some errors though when loading the world list, but this is probably a result of crashes occurring during world creation (so the world could not be created successfully, resulting in missing/corrupted world information) - nevertheless, these errors do not cause the crash. The game just stops working without any errors, so this must be a native crash (i.e. something "outside" the game, either a driver crash, a resource conflict, a hardware issue [unlikely], another program interfering with the game etc). Unfortunately it's difficult to say what's going on exactly, due to the missing hs_err_pid file (so we have no indicator where the crash occurred).

    There was another person who had exactly the same problem some time ago. Eventually he decided to reinstall his OS, that solved the issue (but of course, that's not a comfortable solution) :|

    Here are a few things you could try:
    • Delete the "Worlds" folder in your game directory, then try to create a new world. If you want to keep a certain world, create a backup of it. Maybe also delete the "cache" folder in the game directory.
    • Maybe try to reinstall the game. But after uninstalling it, make sure to delete all remaining files manually before re-installing the game.
    • Disable fullscreen mode and run the game in windowed mode. Does this make any difference?
    • Rightclick on RW in Steam -> Properties -> Set Launch Options -> type "+memory 1024 1024" (without quot. marks) and run the game again. If this does not help, please remove this launch option (!)


    If nothing works, you could try out the standalone (in case this issue is somehow related to Steam or the Steam folder).
