@JokerAMC It doesn't fix it in this case ;)
another screenshot how it actually happens
plank is placed with grid mode
the lamp that's inside a plank is with grid mode
the lamp that's outside - without grid mode

ya sometimes it just does not work because technically the black part of the lamp is gonna be in exactly the same place as the board because they are both snapping to the same place. but are you sure that your grid is at the smallest size because if it is than locking the object in place and moving it down one grid incriment should bring it out where you want it i think, im not positive but i thought that one of the smallest grid incriments was about the same as a planks thickness

    Really enjoying this great game.
One thing that seems to have untapped potential is the Plaster textures for blocks,
Why not make them available for use with boards, where they would give a great deal more freedom to give different ways to design building interiors. The thinner walls would go a great contribution towards reducing the need for a reduced block size.
It would also give the opportunity to have different textures on each side of a wall if you use two board thickness.

I am really hoping for many more textures for these boards and beams which i believe is part of there plan for the future but in the mean time if you are trying to give a gyprock feel i found that using the second white wood texture works quite well. you still see wood grain but its light enough that if you stand back it looks like gyp.

its because the grid is locked to a certain place, sometimes you can fix it by changing the grid size or pressing control to lock the object in place and than moving it down one grid incriment

    Hey guys,

I would like to be able to cut beams and planks at an angle. It would solve a lot of problems when building a pitched roof or staircase among other things. I am thinking of another mode for EC which would lock the object in place, activate an edge loop of sorts which you could control with similar controls as the /selectarea command and than pressing a certain button would cut the plank at the desired angle. I know its alot more complicated than that but i was just wondering if something of the sort might be expected in the future.

I also like the idea posted by LaTroute where he suggests a measurement system and a method of obtaining the measurment of previously placed construction elements, as well as being able to select them directly to the same specification by highlighting them in the world, providing you have the same construction element in your inventory.

I would really like to see many more materials available for EC. I was trying to create my own kitchen cabinets and would love to be able to use thin slabs of marble for countertops instead of trying to pick a wood texture that does not look like wood(same for gyprock and many, many more things.

Being able to scale the EC objects on each axis individually would also improve the building system. For example, if in the future we have brick material for EC objects I would like to be able to give the plank form a little depth so that the bricks on the outside of my wall do not look as thin as the gyprock on the inside of my wall. This also helps for making beams that are wider than they are deep without having to place two beams overlapping.

Furthermore, when placing cabinets and tables and other objects, it would help a lot to be able to lock them in place with control and use the grid system for placement. It is often challenging to line up that first kitchen cabinet without having the backsplash end up in the wall behind it or the foot ending up a couple inches below the floor boards. Being able to scale these objects as well would add more variety to what you can do with them. My other idea for these type of objects is that instead of having it take time to place one of these objects, I was thinking on placement they could show up as a frame kinda like things do in Space Engineers, and than you would have to work on them with a hammer or other tool depending on the object your building.

As for the direction of survival mode, I personally would have more fun with human enemys and npcs such as other groups of survivors, as well as real wildlife posing a threat, rather than monsters and mythical creatures. I know a lot of people want to see swords and axes and magical weapons but i was hoping more for guns with many different attachments and customization options that could affect the stats of your weapon. For instance, everything from the classic sight and silencer upgrades, to the barrel, stock and grip could be changed to modify your weapon. For the melee lovers, maybe a wide variety of melee weapons that could be upgraded with items such as batteries and wire to make electrical weapons etc. Last but not least, town and city generation for looting and could also be where larger groups of friendly and hostile survivors might be found. However I am pretty sure most people want it to go a different way and either way I am sure it is gonna be a great game.

Ya, I was thinking the same idea. I think it would be very useful because than you are able to keep everyone happy. The people who don't enjoy pvp don't have to enter the arena and the people who do enjoy slaughtering each other can have there fun as well. As for the people who really truly enjoy slaughtering a person who is not fighting back.... well sorry bud but your gonna have to step up and grow a pair. I also believe that this idea would bring a new aspect for the avid builders in that some might have fun building these arenas and it would also give more reason to explore other worlds to fight in the best arenas all over. People would be able to send invitations to battles in there arenas and we would be able to host tournaments that might take place across multiple servers, all while still keeping our citizens, cities and other creations safe.

I have a few ideas i believe would improve the game. First off i was hoping that in the future all materials would be able to be placed using the different systems available for placing planks and beams (rotation, scaling, modular placement, etc...) and that there will be plank and beam versions of all materials (marble, concrete, etc...). I also would like to be able to scale the planks and beams and such on all axis individually rather than having the x and z axis scaling proportianally all the time. I believe this should be easy to accomplish because at the moment when you hold shift to scale an object the page up and page down keys still move the object up and down, so if you were to split the x/z axis so left/right would control only x and page up/down would control z it should work. Also placing object such as kitchen counters and tables and whatnot should work with the right control function (object lock) and grid system. This brings me to my third point which is that i would like to be able to program all those buttons individually. I use a logitech g13 gameboard and so i like to be able to program all buttons to something on the gameboard.
My final idea i think might be a little harder to accomplish but i was thinking about another mode for planks and beams and such that would allow you to cut them at an angle. I was thinking a possible way to do it would be on button press it would lock the object in place, activate an edge loop on the object which could then be controlled using similar controls as the /selectarea command, and than on button press would cut the desired angle from the object. For survival purposes maybe have a power saw you could carry with you otherwise you would have to be next to a sawbench.

Great game, keep up the good work.
