It could even be something as simple as an open faced box that you can change the material on and when you point the cursor at the open face the interact command can be used just like opening a chest. Make it so it can be scaled height, width, depth, and maybe with some other variations where it has some shelves, etc. it in. Then the only thing we'd really need are some smaller sized doors which could also be useable as trapdoors so they'd be multipurpose.

Yeah that'd be sweet. Or like a hinge item and we could make our own doors. i bet that would be really complicated though...

The problem with custom block materials is the same problem now with posters, decals, etc. in multiplayer and blueprints.

but yeah it has been mentioned before along with the severe need for new / more / better textures overall.

I'd love to be able to rotate the textures we have.. is there a way I'm missing? I like to make wainscoting and such and there's no good vertical grain wood textures but some of the horizontal ones would work great... if I can rotate the texture

I mean really it makes no "real-world" sense to collect sand and gravel and such with a pickaxe but neither does reclaiming an intact pane of glass after smashing it with a sledgehammer lol. However a shovel could still be useful. It could act as a pickaxe but with more precision like adjustable width and depth and orientation, cut out square blocks from the landscape for precise holes and construction placement. Basically have the same but maybe limited function as the creative mode's terrain tools. Like use it to dig up foliage like bushes and young trees for replanting, terrain painting, add subtract and whatnot... Also Animals (and maybe the PC) could poo and a shovel could be used to collect it to make fertilizer :poo:

One more of what I'm sure will be ... enough suggestions. One that I have to believe, has to have been suggested countless times (though a cursory search produced nothing in the first few pages). A "custom building material" is sorely need. Or an "upload your own texture block". Just like the decal or poster but a block you can craft in any shape with any image (within reason) as the texture. With texture scaling. House otta hundred dollar bills yall!

I would like to suggest that the amount of storage (slots) a container holds should scale with the size of the container. Also I had an idea for an item that when attached to an existing door (or other block) turns that door into a storage, or a new door item that is a storage.

What I mean to say is easier explained by example: say I have created a grain silo in game, visually it looks like a silo but as far as the game is concerned it's a big hollow tube. Now let's say I add a door/ access hatch into the silo and then add this new theoretical door storage item thingy to it. Now when I open the hatch a "chest" UI opens and I can "store" all my corn in the silo. These "storage doors" could have increasing crafting costs for higher tier (more slots) storage doors. Another example would be kitchen/bathroom cabinets. It wouldn't necessarily have to attach to (or be) a door, it could be a tool that modifies any block to be a storage container, really the possibilities are endless, storage boulder, tree hollow, hidden floor board... Or it could work similarly to the blueprint tool, by having a tool that designates a volume as a "storage" area that you can build around essentially making ones own chests. Then we can talk about filling that area will a visual representation of what's in the storage, like a crate of apples or a open air dry corn silo, which would probably save PC recourses as opposed to placing 100 apples in a barrel for decoration.
