"Storage Doors" and Storage Scaling Suggestion

  • I would like to suggest that the amount of storage (slots) a container holds should scale with the size of the container. Also I had an idea for an item that when attached to an existing door (or other block) turns that door into a storage, or a new door item that is a storage.

What I mean to say is easier explained by example: say I have created a grain silo in game, visually it looks like a silo but as far as the game is concerned it's a big hollow tube. Now let's say I add a door/ access hatch into the silo and then add this new theoretical door storage item thingy to it. Now when I open the hatch a "chest" UI opens and I can "store" all my corn in the silo. These "storage doors" could have increasing crafting costs for higher tier (more slots) storage doors. Another example would be kitchen/bathroom cabinets. It wouldn't necessarily have to attach to (or be) a door, it could be a tool that modifies any block to be a storage container, really the possibilities are endless, storage boulder, tree hollow, hidden floor board... Or it could work similarly to the blueprint tool, by having a tool that designates a volume as a "storage" area that you can build around essentially making ones own chests. Then we can talk about filling that area will a visual representation of what's in the storage, like a crate of apples or a open air dry corn silo, which would probably save PC recourses as opposed to placing 100 apples in a barrel for decoration.

You are a genius!!! :большой палец:Great idea! There's a seat. You can make a storage in his image!

  • It could even be something as simple as an open faced box that you can change the material on and when you point the cursor at the open face the interact command can be used just like opening a chest. Make it so it can be scaled height, width, depth, and maybe with some other variations where it has some shelves, etc. it in. Then the only thing we'd really need are some smaller sized doors which could also be useable as trapdoors so they'd be multipurpose.
