How to get stairs to place?

Hello Guys & Gals,

I am sorry to bother you but how the heck do you get stairs to place?

I can place 1 stair block but the rest going up or down I can't get the placement to work.
I have spent a long time many hours trying all with no luck.
I also spent hours watching videos on youtube trying to find the answer.
I have tried arrow keys, the num pad and page up and down and not once could I make a complete stair case.

So if you can please tell me how to get top of one step to align with bottom of another that would be great.
Or if so inclined a nice youtube video on stairs would be good, if people have the time.

Thanks for the info and help, I greatly appreciate it.

What you suggested worked great, I was trying to build stairs in center of the room.
Anyways with your suggestion and help I can now get stairs where I want them.
