RW is a great game to have entertaining Minigames in it that give another reason to play aside the typical building or survival. I consider them as a nice twist. Its important though that these games should not be a mandatory part of the game and not give any value or reward that is either required for the game or not achievable by other means. Im also thinking about something like the Piano in Java, which was such a nice addition, even though most players won´t ever use it (inclusive myself - im absolutely non-musical).
Some ideas/examples that come to my mind:
- fishing. In Java already implemented and not too difficult. Just wait a bit and click with the right timing.
- metal detecting - suggested that somewhere else already. Use the metal detector and have a x% chance to find something else than ores (i.e. coin, jewlery or as insider-joke some bottle caps). Reward would be some collectables that can be displayed or even traded but nothing that is required to play
- a whistle - with maybe 3 or 4 tones only. each tone or combination has a x% chance to attract some wild animals or maybe give a companion (i.e. dog) a command. As this can be an advantage and not everyone would like to fiddle out the correct combination there should be other means to reach the same goal (i.e. the right food to attract animals).
- whittling - finding some "blueprints" how to carve certain decorative objects in chests or dungeons. Then use a knife and a wooden stick or log. Doing the right movements as described in the "blueprint" will perform carving actions and step by step turn the wood into the decorative object. If doing the wrong movement with the knife it results in a fail.
