Saving My Life - For Real!

  • A public message to Red51

    Dear Red,

I started playing this game in 2017, looking for something like WoW, but without the "job pressures" associated with guilds and the generally violent nature of those other games. This game stood out to me then as one in which I get to set the rules of play so long as I followed the rules of survival. Your invention of this game is pure genius.

But, Red, there is something you should know about me, player Benjamin (Benjamin's Sanctuary Ranch of WF).

I suffer severe treatment resistant depression and complex post traumatic stress disorder. I have lived through over 60 years of abuse of every kind from family to spouses to employers and coworkers. In 2018, I became permanently disabled by these, involuntarily hospitalized in 2019, and basically living a life in hell on earth.

Sadly, I was unable to play the game for a very long time. The kernel_task on my MacBook Pro late 2017 kept firing off every time I'd play, so it was completely unplayable on my MBP.

Until just a few weeks ago, I found something online about the air intake vents on the sides of the MBP.

Yeah, they were completely clogged. I pulled so much gunk from those intakes, it was no wonder things were getting so hot inside my mac. In fact, I had been wrapping it in four bottles of ice to try and keep it cool. I thought I needed a new computer. I was wrong! :!::!::wacko::wacko::D:D

Since Christmas 2024, just a month ago, I started playing this again. kernel_task has been behaving extremely well, and the game has been, for the most part, very playable for me. All I need now is an external graphics card and I could go all in on video settings!

But the biggest thing that has been happening since I have been able to, well - to be honest - fully immerse myself in the game. I even joined the Wild Frontiers server to play with others. Adventure with others, that is.

And the result of this has been a significant reduction in symptoms of TRD and CPTSD! Almost completely free of the pain!

Red, this game is saving my life, literally.

I would strongly suggest marketing to the mental health professionals as an adjunct to therapy. Yeah, it takes me from the real world completely, but who cares? Have y'all seen the real world lately?

So I'm here to tell you, and to testify for you, that Rising World has the capacity to heal severe emotional trauma-related issues. I have been nearly symptom free for weeks now.

Thank you so much for all the work you have put into this game over the past decade, Red.

    Ever Exploring New Worlds,

    Benjamin

  • Dear benji1959 , we all come to this game in order to escape from reality. Even after a whole day at the computer at work, this game helps to unload your brain and relax your soul. So I think Red51 I saved more than one life :). At least he definitely made it better! A low bow from the grateful players!

  • On the flip side of Benji's message about the game helping with his mental health, I can honestly say it helps me with the physical pain of my disabilities as well. I'll get so focused on working on whatever I'm building that I'll stop feeling so much of the pain.....until I stop and then my body says "WTF were you thinking sitting up for x hours you idiot!!??" lol

It's funny that this topic came up today as there was just another new article on Reuters about how video games help with mental health / physical pain reduction.

  • what a heart warming tale! my condition may not be as severe as yours, but i also find this game to be a much needed source of comfort in the most difficult of times.

ich kann nur ein bisschen deutsch sprechen (mehr lesen). fur alles andere, es gibt google translate.

my blueprints are free to use (aside from making real money with them or claiming you made them, obviously), but i would love to see what you do with them, and be sure to credit me when you share projects that involve my work.

Bitte verlinken Sie zurück zu meinen Blueprint-Threads (oder erwähnen Sie zumindest meinen Namen), wenn Sie Projekte hochladen, die meine Arbeit verwenden.

There's actually an interactive game element to the whole article as well as you scroll through it, those aren't just static graphics.

Both Reuters and Associated Press over the years have done a lot of different articles about all the research into video games helping both with physical and mental health issues, this is just the latest one that was published today and is more focused on "Cozy Games" since those are the latest video game trend.
