Greetings / Animal questions

  • Hello all! New player here that just found out about Rising World. I am a LONG time player of Wurm (both Online and Unlimited) of 15+ years, so I do love a good sandbox for sure! No clue how this one has been around this long without me finding out about it. Gotta say as much as it must suck to redo the entire game as a dev, moving off of Java was probably the best move you could have made, it is what severely holds Wurm back :X I can see that this game lacks a lot of features that Wurm has, but totally blows it out of the water in terms of flexibility and customization in building and landscaping. I have only logged a few hours but I am loving it so far! I started in Survival mode to get a feel for the entire scope of the game to this point. I am looking forward to all the awesome things I can build, once I figure out what I am doing of course lol. With being used to Wurms masochistic grind of skills and resources already I (may or) may not switch to creative before I do a large build.

So far there is only one thing I can't figure out, animals. It seems animal breeding is not a thing, nor is leading animals with a rope. I am assuming that's an EA issue and may change later. I did notice that I can pick up chickens and hares, and I have a chaotic little pen area going on. The chickens are dropping eggs, but they don't seem to be a food. Do chicks come out if you leave them on the ground? Also, while roaming I came across a wolf family, a regular mom, a black dad, and a cub. For some reason it let me pick the cub up, and it is now in my pocket. That made me think maybe it's just a size issue and that's how you get farm animals, so I tried to pickup baby pigs and sheep.....nope. Just the cub in my pocket. Does that have a purpose or why specifically wolf cubs, or is it an "unintended feature"? lol Do I need to feed these critters if I pen them? Will the cub eat my chickens if in the same fencing? Can I set this single npc to being non-hostile by settings or taming somehow and keep him as a "pet" and let him run around my house? If so,10/10 for pocket puppies

  • 1) Animal breeding, taming, leading is not implemented yet, but is definitely planned and at least parts of that are coming in the next update from what we've been told.

    2) Eggs can be cooked on the grill / oven along with several of the other veggies and you can also bake bread and cookies. more / more complex cooking is planned for later on.

    3) Eggs do not currently hatch a baby chicken if left on the ground. There has been discussions on how to possibly implement that without it ccausing an explosion of the animal population.

    4) Being able to pick up some of small animals like chickens, cubs, etc. is part of the animal husbandry system that started on with the last update. See #1 in this list.

    5) You currently do not need to feed animals

  • Thanks for the great info! One further question. If I put the cub down into a pen is he going to age up and get big? I'd love to remove him from my pocket but this is probably not where I am going to be building long term, and if he grows I might not be able to pick him up to move him.

  • Adult animals do not age. Child animals do turn into adults. I'm not sure if all of them do. i know the chicks turn into chickens and the database has lifespans other than -1. all adult animals are a -1 lifespan.

wait what, really? When did.. okay I stand corrected.

I know Red had talked about adding animal aging in but didn't think it was activated yet.

  • I think it was talked about aging animals out of the database when there was talk about rare spawns as someone mentioned having to murder everything to get the rare spawn to drop. So the idea was to rotate the stock, but that does not require actually having growth ages. More simply add one delete one.
