I have noticed that on a number of servers permission for poi's have changed and you can not pick things like chests, lamps or anything else up anymore except only item in chest which makes them almost pointless. Half the fun was finding and taking these items to help you get established. Has anyone else had this issue ?

To pick up items, you need both the "picupitems" and "destroyitems" permissions. Since "picupitems" is also required to pick up sticks and stones, it is generally allowed on most servers.
However, allowing "destroyitems" in the wilderness is problematic if building takes place there as well. While there is now a "usenaturelobjects" permission, what is really needed is a "destroynaturalobjects" permission to distinguish between POI items and player-placed items.
With Devidian's land claim, we can now claim POIs as "renew zones" and generally allow item destruction within them.
The "renew" feature has the advantage that everything respawns after a certain amount of time.
Of course, you could also use a "standard" F9 area to establish permissions that differ from those in the wilderness.
But ultimately, you need to speak to the respective server operators.
