So, i thought i saw this once before, but thought i must have been mistaken.
Is it intended that when crafting blocks and such that you are allowed to use dirt for them also?
Intended? Dirt usable as stone?

Well, thats just a temporary solution. As soon as we have ores in the game, and different resources (like marble, clay, sand etc.), we will change those recipes. Then you will need stone for creating stoneblocks, metal for creating metalblocks, sandstone for creating sandstoneblocks etc.
