Lags during game

  • Hello,


    could not find any topic covering my problem, therefore I open up this threat. I am fairly new, started playing at the beginning of Februar.
    After the last update 0.6.5 I encounter lags while playing which I did not have before. While I walk or do anything the screen freezes for seconds before going on. I thougt it might be related to the specific world, but a new one does not solve the problem. It is a bit anoying, so does any one know what do?

  • It sounds like there is not enough memory available... Do you use the Steam version, or Standalone? Eventually you can provide a report file, to do that, open console ingame (key ` or ~ or ^) and type "report" (without quot. marks). Now there should be a file called "report" (followed by a number) in your game directory, please open it with a texteditor, copy the content and paste it here ;)

  • Thanks for the report file :) Please try to add these launch options to Rising World (rightclick on rw in steam -> properties -> set launch options): +memory 1024 2048 (please make sure you put the space between both numbers), and try to run the game again.
    I'd also recommend to install the latest graphics driver, your current driver is from 2011, this could cause the game to crash sometimes.

  • well first of all thanks a lot, the lags are gone for now. Although it did not show the effect at once. But I could play without lags today. You are right I encounter crashes quite often, but if I try to update the graphics driver it keeps constantly telling me it is up to date already.

    I'm happy to hear that the lags are gone now :) About the driver, how do you check if it's up to date? You can never rely on the Windows driver check, since there is a 99% chance that it tells you that the driver is up to date (in most cases it only looks for the latest basic Microsoft driver, which shouldn't be used anyway).
    According to the log, your current driver is dated on 22th of December 2011. Here you find a more recent version: http://support.amd.com/en-us/d…legacy3&os=Windows+7+-+64 (download button is at the bottom)
    Since you use a laptop, it may be possible that you cannot install the proprietary driver, but have to use a custom driver of your laptop manufacturer instead. Unfortunately some laptop manufacturers don't always keep their drivers up to date, so eventually they are still offering an outdated version on their homepage. But you should try to install the proprietary AMD driver first, if it's not compatible, it should give you a message ;)

  • well today the lags are back again. It is a pitty, maybe a new laptop will help me. Damned driver cannot be updated as well. ok thanks for your help anyway.

  • Hmm... can you eventually provide a new report file? Maybe you can also try this: Go to your game directory, open the "config.properties" file with a texteditor and set "graphic_texture_quality" to 0, this slightly reduces the memory consumption at least.
    But yeah, a more powerful laptop (especially when it has more RAM) will definitely improve the situation :)

    just in case any encounters a similar problem. I finally found out, that those lags will only occur while in windows mode. If I switch to full screen mode there a no lags at all.
