Yes, but that means the update is clooose :3

Did anyone else get a popup on the screen about 5 minutes ago about a new post from Red that read "here's another update.." ? I don't see anything new for news. Maybe he updated his draft post or something. I'm getting way too antsy now to see that new water! ;-p

Yeah, I only blueprinted some buildings I want to keep but that's about it. The best experience of games like this for me is the starting out barehanded (which will come eventually to this game). Once I get established, build a house, a farm, and a mine, I get bored quickly.

Thats good news zfoxfire, any idea if we will be able to place water manually in areas where we want it (since it wont float to through any canal we build)?

Pretty sure Red said in the past that it will be available to place in Creative mode. That would make sense because alot of us have crazy builds in our world and won't be so willing to hit the reset button. :)

. I think you are confusing this update (static water) with another update (dynamic water)..

To my knowledge todays static water update will not auto generate in the world, you'll have to manually "paint" it in.

Anybody out here able to correct me if i'm wrong

Static water is going to naturally generate in areas of your world that have not yet been explored. This is why I was asking admins on Freaks R Us server what there plan was for upgrading the server since any unclaimed land has already been "explored" and therefore will not generate water naturally. There's so much building on your server that I don't see anyone being ok with wiping the world but I was hoping that atleast the chunks for unclaimed land would be wiped from your database to allow water to nautally generate.

So in short, in a new world, water generates naturally but is static (will not re-shape to terrain changes). In existing worlds, water will not generate in explored areas so has to be manually placed (you asked in the past about allowing players to use creative mode to place their own water). The admin I spoke to last night (Forgot his name) said admins will have to place water manually in a player's land since opening up creative mode for the players would override the protections set by area protection script (as you have stated in the past).

Bingo! exactly what i was thinking.
That in itself is a whole lot of flexibility, on the fly updating and tweaking!

Once we're able to mod with java, best believe i'm going to be getting my hands real dirty with it!
OOOOooowww yeahhhhh... and I bet there would be an explosion of ex-minecraft modders crawling all over RW mod section

This is what I'm really looking forward to. Minecraft has a huge modding community but RW looks nicer and Red wants the game to be modder friendly so I look forward to seeing all sorts of mods like FeedTheBeast, various dino mods, Mystcraft, and ofcourse enhanced shaders like Sonic Ether being re-written for Rising World :)

Not yet.. the boats are animated with the new player models.

And I am sure as more plant varieties come that the game will look getter. Also better randomization of plants would help. There is a lua script that places random plants and it makes the ground loook better.

I would like to see shorter grass too. Perhaps taller grass closer to some trees. Its all algorithms that need to be improved upon. Most of the ingredients are in there already.

It could be done like ARK where you can craft a simple raft that doubles as a platform. I've seen people build massive mobile fortresses on those tiny little rafts. Hey, who needs too much realism, right?

And yes, we said that last week. I know.. But I've chatted with Red on this and he took some extra time getting the shader settings the way he wanted them and it delayed a few other small tasks needed before the code can be released. He didn't want to rush and wanted to do it right. :) And its going to be nice when it does.

Me too! I'm taking a little break waiting for the water update, been playing The Long Dark a lot, but as soon as the update drops, I'll be all over it! lol

The Long Dark seems like a good pure survival game. I picked it up last weekend when it was on sale.

From a recent chat with Red on how the static water is being implemented, it is technically possible to dig out the bottom of a lake and have an air pocket. Dynamic water will fix this because water will conform to terrain changes but for now, it means I can have a underwater bedroom without the glass ceiling! ^_^
