But it is different when a developer buys some assets like models, or when he buy the complete game mechanic or program code. I am no programmer but I have tried Unity and even could create a simple game. where is the efford when developers don´t program their games anymore and just buy all pieces in the assetstore? there are games on Steam which are only a reselled Unity asset (Uncrowded for example), this is total scam <X
I have full respect for developers when they create something theirself and not buy their full game in an asset store. Red said the voxel terrain they use is completly self made (kudos), so I understand things take longer than in a game like Astral. Even kudos to the Blockscape developer, he did the complete voxel terrain himself too and did great work (but no mercy for 1 year silence  )

Voxel farm , Speedtree and others are widely used to create foliage and voxel landscapes in games. You still have to write all of the underlying code to make it all work. Most programmers are just that , code writers , All of the pretty stuff is usually left to the graphics artists although some coders actually do create graphics too. A voxel is basically just a square , you have to texture it with an image, and that is where the graphics artist comes in , you then have to smooth the square (probably with a mesh ). Then there are the sounds which are also created by artists. It is more then just coding, a game is a lot of things. that requires more then just coding to assemble. It takes a lot to write any game. I do not know where red got the tree models or if he did them all himself , Likewise with the sounds and graphics for the animals. You can ask red that :)

I have been a programmer and a developer since 1977, I started with a TRS 80 Model 1 and I have owned so many different computers over the years , I have lost count. And all programmers are different and think differently, you never know what they are thinking :) I am neither egocentric or selfish. I have Given away a lot of games over the years, Try googling Supermatch, Supermatch Christmas , Follow the leader, Secret square. I do guess I have a little experience and no I am not mad with you. :)

@Trillnar as I said, these updates are quite big and you cannot begin to know what kind of issues red and the team has to go through coming from users.... because they do have to deal with customer support, too! The majority of people have a mentality of entitlement and do not know nor care to know what's going on beyond their little noses. What if I tell you that biomes are ready since September, but the decision was made to hold it back a while longer until certain pre-requisites are pushed first?

As for water, I am very interested myself to know how this will be implemented, as not much has been made regarding voxel water with JMonkeyEngine. You are right about seeing the next updates in terms of months... but only these updates; the next ones should probably return to a bi-weekly basis then. :)

Have a look at Astral Terra (they use unity and Astral Terra is also voxel based) if you dig in the water , it flows into the hole you dug . So if you Dig a canal the water will fill it. I do not think the water flows there. I am not to sure about the Jmonkey engine and if it has a water function or not. Most voxel games use non flowing water in them. In Space engineers the water is just a blue block like grass is here. As far as the biomes , I do not think they were ready. The screen shots we saw , especially the winter ones looked rather primitive. I think if they were ready , red would have released them by now. But you never know what a developer is thinking. Anyhow I do look foreword to their release, Whenever that may be.

I see it too but I'm not one of them. Antsy, yes, but not disappointed. As I posted above, the average for updates seems to be every two weeks and like Lord Foobar said, the biomes and water updates are really big updates to be made. The game is early release and the purchase of the game was not very expensive so I'm not disappointed at all.

I like the game and I am disappointed in all of the delays. I am not upset at red. Everyone has their own way of doing things. From the pattern that I have seen develop over the last several months, I now realize that this game is going to take a very, very long time to finish. I no longer expect major updates in days or weeks , but rather in months or longer.

Per a recent coment by him, I believe so. Also, I think Red is no longer making update anouncements because of some issues that happened on previous release days so I'm guessing that the update will just hit without warning.

I hope he releases them soon , I am beginning to see a lot of disappointed people. The Biomes were announced 6 months ago and are now 3 months late. I have moved on to several other games until these updates get done . With a single developer working on them and Christmas and family gatherings coming up , I do not think they will make it any time soon. A lot of the people that were making rising world videos have now stopped until the game gets updated. There was a great deal of interest in this game but recently things have been dropping off until the biomes update gets released. I am guessing it will still be a while before we see them.

Theoretically you can enable caves by editing the world SQLite database manually: Go into the "Worlds" folder in the game directory, then into your particular world subfolder, there is a file called "[yourworldname].db". You can open this file with an SQL editor (for example Navicat). Go into the "WorldInfos" table and change the value of "Caves" to true. Caves will be enabled on your world now.

But: Unfortunately this is not a good idea, since it may cause visual glitches between old and new chunks (i.e. texture glitches, holes in the world, caves leading into void etc.) :!:

Red, I have actually done this by removing the unmodified world files in the world directory then going into the main db , changing caves to true and deleting all of the chunk info and the world part info. It worked for me but I would not recommend anyone try it on a server. All of my worlds were single player and the removed world files just were regenerated. As far as the existing world files. Caves did appear but sometimes there were glitches. I have also copied some world files from 1 world into another and the result was "interesting" to say the least :) I have done more then I care to say to the db files and sometimes it was good an other times it was not so good :)

Did you try to adjust the the "Ambience" slider in the settings? It allows you to change the volume of ambient sounds independently of the other sounds ;)

Everything but the music is maxed out. I can hear everything but the old backround sounds . the others work fine

EDit : I reinstalled the game and they started working again.

I have noticed a few minor glitches since the last update both with the sound and a few other things. The sound issues might be related to my sound driver.
I just updated my pc (added more memory ) and reformatted my hard drive. Now my pc runs better and faster then ever. I cant hear the ambient sounds like I used to. (they are all very low ), however all the other sounds work fine.
I have also noticed some other things . I'm going to wait for the Biomes update to come out before I report some of the terraforming problems I have been having because the biomes update might fix them.
As far as the sounds go I do no know why the ambient sounds are so low. I do turn off the music. Perhaps the 2 are related.

I bought Astral Terra today. While it is similar to rising world , It is also different. I will say this. I thought the scenery in rising world looked good and it does, But Astral terra's scenery looks great. Much more natural and realistic. I will enjoy both games. Building in Rising world is much easier. Astral Terra has a long way to go. Both games are good to play. You can view screenshots on Astral terra's steam page.

Yet you keep pushing him loads while telling him how to do is job :/ . Nice that you're praising the game for this game needs it, but I'm not setting deadlines as that was a half-joke & when I'm giving up on biome updates in a jestful manner. And yes, biomes shall be done when it's done so let's just leave Red51 be because I'm also pleased that he released this update when it should have been. Things were far too quiet that I'm happy we now have signs & weather vanes, among other things.

I'm even happy to hear that we're going to get fonts added onto signs, that shall be awesome. Hearing complaints though that people want to view their signs from all perspectives so I do hope something may be toyed with there? Maybe? I need to game to give my 2 cents. Alright, time to walk those 12.1 km to the biome update :)

Artic , I was kidding you about the deadlines. Sorry if you misread it :)

Unfortunately I'm not sure what's causing this issue exactly. It seems to occur sporadically, happened also to me a few weeks ago, but only once. I used to think it may be an issue with the graphics card, but it's definitely a bug.
When rotation for blueprints (when containing blocks) will be implemented, we have to dig deeper into the blueprints code, there is a high chance that this issue will be fixed then^^

It is working again, I redid all of my settings and its fine now.

After the latest update, If you go to place a blueprint, all you see is a black shape when moving the blueprint , you do not see the object in color. All graphics drivers and systems are up to date. Once you place the house or whatever the blueprint is, it looks normal.

It is working again, I redid all of my settings and its fine now.

Yay! The update is here! Excellent! Nice to see signs added in, and in such variety. I wish I could play around with them also but have to wait for someone to do an update video. The weather vane was also a nice steam suggestion not too long ago + assuming those 'fences' are able to have corner pieces. Neat stuff.

No worries on the biome update, just that they should have been out by now. I do hope they do find themselves being released sometime soonish. It can still wait though if we can continue to get 'bribed' by these updates. You're doing awesome & I want to hit Trillnar over the head with a few rolled up newspaper wacks. Chill out. Yes, he could focus purely on biomes, but other stuff needs to be done. You can wait. If I can wait, and others can wait, then you can wait also Trillnar. Chillout

I'm giving Red till December 5th just because that's Sinterklaas day. Don't worry, take your time. But ya, patience. As long as we're getting these sorts of updates then it's all fine.

I never said Red was doing a bad job , I have praised this game all over steam and to friends. Here you are Setting deadlines LOL :) That's a joke. Biomes will be done when its done , meanwhile, I have a few more new and upcoming things to check out . I wont be complaining about it any more :)

Nice update. Now I feel I have to bring something up. On 9-28- 2015, this was posted in the changelog

"Biomes. They still need more work, and since we want to provide you some great looking results, it's necessary to put more time in it. We hope you understand that. It shouldn't take too long until they're finally available!"

We are almost 6 weeks later. If Red was to have spent those 6 weeks working on the biomes , and only the biomes, We would have Biomes by now. We are 3 weeks since the last update. I do not know why biomes are taking so long. Red , If you work on the biomes and only the biomes , they get done . I have seen this pattern long enough now not to expect anything major from Rising world at least for the short term .I do wish Red all the best. It is his game and he has to code this as he sees fit. We just have to take it as we get it . I am not trying to be critical of Rising world or of Red, I will continue to watch the evolution of this game, but I will no longer address the update style. There Is plenty that I have to do as it is. Such Is early access.
