Is there a way to set the opacity of the chat box? I am growing tired of straining my eyes.

Unfortunatly you can't set the background color of the chat box atm
You could only change the font size (Game_ChatFontSize in the config.properties file), but probably that wouldn't really help in this situation...However, maybe we can add a setting for the background color with the next update
But in the meantime, you could also achieve that through the API btw:

Thanks for the answer. Now that we are getting plugins that are starting to use the chat for commands, I think it would be time to get that adjustment ability installed. It made a big difference in the java version for me
