medieval realms server requires a 6 hour play time on that server before having a claim. That server also has no sticks to gather! You sign in with nothing and you need to collect sticks and stones to make a primitive axe to cut down trees for wood. BUT you cant make one without sticks! The only endless possibility is to find a stupid stick! I have been on there 4 hours (total) roaming around looking for a stupid stick! NOTHING! lol so I don't play it anymore.
Really Xantequia?? You didn't saw the two sticks AND THE STONE AXE in your inventory? Two sticks, stone axe and map is with what you start the game. Even if you die, you get those again on the spawn. So as soon as you started you could chop woods, make simple workbench and make as much sticks as you want. I spent my claimless 6 hours chopping wood and finding a nice spot for my home... Trashing a good server with such a nonsense.... Come on...

no, there was nothing in the inventory when I started to play on that server. Maybe the starting inventory was changed after I started but, yea no sticks. I'm not trashing it dude, I am just sharing my own experience on that server. Come on....

The beaches are full of sticks 
Go first to the beach, look around for sticks in the sand, pick up and it get's you 2 sticks. I mostly collect all my sticks that way roaming around.

Yes, that is a great start! I am surprised at that I could not find any in the wooded areas. With no map, I had a hard time finding the coasts. I just headed East with the F3 GPS and found some water but nothing yet.
