there isn't one yet, this is a work in progress (WIP). You can download the area protection script though from the scripts section of this forum.
We know about it. But the old lua-script has vulnerability which allow anybody to erase any private place without rights.
I'm new to all this, and I'm in the process of setting up a server.
I've just added the AreaProtection script - my question is, will I have to redefine all the areas once I move from script to plugin?
That will depend upon whoever makes the plugin since it will be "community made" and not from the developer. If it is Miwarre then it will most likely use the same database format, if it someone else then you will either need to redefine them all or the plugin developer would have to create a converter for old script databases.

again depends who writes it, tbh I have one in progress but it is nowhere near ready yet, at least now the methods are fixed from red51's side so I should be able to finish it. Hope I get some free time soon to do so since our server needs it too with the allowing creative mode tools and all 
In general I think no plugin developer will release code unless asked for it so just ask the person who made the plugin you want to alter, if they are nice enough they will let you see part or all of the code.
I know, hence just hoping. I'm an advocate for Open Source, especially with non-commercial stuff.
Projects tend to only get better once you've got more heads involved - Linux for example!
Worse case I bet we can reverse engineer it LOL
I would be willing to send an old areaprotection db but would rather use an email account to send it.
I just started using this plugin yesterday, things went fine but today some user did delete all the AP areas - that user was not an area manager (there are none)... so, in other words, everyone can delete anyone's protected area 
ps.: in settings.properties, adminOnly=0 because I want people to create, modify and delete their own areas so it doesn't turn into a micro-managed admin hell of a server, been there and done that with other game servers.
you might want to consider the auto area protection by yahgiggle [Plugin]WorldProtection (Auto area protection script) He hasn't been around for a bit but this seems to be what you are after I think. This area protection is geared for the administrated server and yahgiggle's area protection is geared towards a self administrated 1.
i second your input, however, if this one is fixed i think i'd prefer it over yahgiggle; that said, i'm running yahgiggle's ATM (in fact since my post above) and it seems to be doing its job quite well. there are some issues (i / players on my server have) with it, but that's not the right thread to discuss this.
