Or is it just because they have more leaves?

Can a mod please move this to the right sub forum? Sorry

The total time from "sapling" to "fully grown tree" is exactly the same for both. But the mapletree takes longer from "sapling" to "young tree", while the pinetree takes longer from "young tree" to "fully grown tree"

Any reason for this or just random?

I like that there is variety.

it takes more wacks to cut down a pine tree so I'd be okay with pine trees taking longer to grow actually.they are bigger.

Would be nice, if the growing speed of plants would be based on the environment and the weather. So for example, that cactuses would grow faster in a desert than on a sand beach and that rain or watering plants would make them grow faster etc.

That would be a good improvement for the future. The regrowing system still needs some tweaking.
