The next update will be available on Wednesday, December 18, in the early evening (GMT+1).
This update will not yet replace the Java version, instead it is the actual content update. We'll provide more information about the transition together with the update.

-New and different Sound Effects-
I would like nice sound effects for rain and audio ambience depending on where you are. If you are in a dense forest you get that environmental sound, if you are in a cave things are more echoy and hallow sounding. Adding ambient sounds based on your location would add a real sense of submersion. Now to address something I have an issue with that is already in the game. I dislike the 'dropping dice in a cup' sound effect that happens when you mine. I don't feel any immediate gratification from mining, its just something I do to get the stuff I need. I would like to hear different clacks and clanks to make it feel like I am mining something substantial up. Perhaps different ore can give off different sound effects. That can happen down the line, but I really want the initial mining sound effect replaced as soon as possible first.
First off, thanks for your suggestions! Always nice to hear that people care about sound!
- Location-based and richer ambiences are planned and will really come to the fore when the biomes are ready. In the long-term we'll add more echoes to the caves, likely when dungeons come to the game. We also plan to dampen nature sounds when you enter a building. When that will happen is unclear, but it is planned!
- Rain will come when weather is implemented.
- The mining sound effect is something that is on my to-do list. I don't like that sound either! There will be a new sound in one of the next updates. Good idea about different ores giving off different sound effects. We will see if and how we can do that.

OMG YES, FMOD is the best, now you can do everything to sound (Sound delay please).
Delay and reverb are in the game! Even with regards to the speed of sound, i.e. you hear a sound that's coming from the distance later than you see it!
Psst… you didn't hear this from me, but type 'listener' into the console. Walk around and hit or destroy some things

You don't want things to be rushed. This will only further delay everything that comes after the update since there will be more support inquires.
There's a need to do things thoroughly, so that there's only minor issues after the update that can be solved with a couple of bugfixes.
This is one of the bigger updates and one of the more complicated ones.
Be patient, you'll like it

Danke!
-

Kommt!

@Fobsily
Yes, it's an all sustainable energy house!
@ffflo1993
More or less, there's a few platforms along the way that… lead to other rooms that again lead to other rooms
Yeah, I've been roaming around in this world for a bit

After sucking for a very long time and looking at the communities' more than impressive creations in awe, I finally built something half-decent in Rising World
A minimalist Mies van der Rohe-style house. It's still mostly unfurnished, just pretend there are comfy couches everywhere and a garden table set outside of the house.
Just PLEASE DON'T GO DOWN THE STAIRS in the basement…

In one of the very early versions (not even sure it was a released at that point) trees would fly away when you chopped them down.
It turned out that was a bug with my crappy graphics card, but I couldn't stop laughing for several minutes. That was just so out of the blue (or rather into the blue!?)
-
Awesome, feels cramped because of the mountains, but spacious at the same time.
Really cool vibe!
-
Thanks for the suggestions!
A lot of the sounds in the game right now are placeholders. As red said we'll move over to a new sound engine which will enable us to do much more with the atmosphere and we'll also implement new sounds, as well as replace some.
I'm sure you'll like it!

Great vids! Thoroughly enjoyed them!

Really like the illusion of the waterfall in the bathroom and the open fireplace… looks very comfy!

Maybe a little bit

What about this kind of predator?
-
Haha, the barking 'crow' will be replaced, I'm kind of annoyed by it, too
Give us a little bit of time to rework the sound system…

According to wiktionary 'strafe' originated in WWI "to attack (ground troops, for example) with a machine gun or cannon from a low-flying aircraft." As a noun, it means, "an attack of machine-gun or cannon fire from a low-flying aircraft."
It originated from the german word for punishment.

IIRC Wolfenstein 3D already had strafing.

Will you be making ambient background tunes for different areas, or situations. Like different moods for the surface, or underground? In dungeons? Just curious.
We have been talking about this. We don't want to overwhelm the player with too much music, but instead making it really special when it comes up. It should really creep up on you in certain situations. We'll see how dynamic we can make it
There will be an 'sound update' at some point in the not too distant future, where the sound engine will get a nice tune up as well as adding a shit ton of new sounds and – possibly – music.
Thank you. red51 told me it is this music, in case anyone else wants to know: http://audiojungle.net/item/epic-adventure/9562866
Very cool! I'll put it in the first post.
