Nah.. looms are used to combine strings or fibers, not extract fiber. But on a side note, you could use a loom to weave grass. I mean... the grass in the game is certainly tall enough!!! :-D

When we get into primitive crafting, everything primitive needs to be limited to the personal crafting section, not a workbench.

Something like this would be neat to weave out of long grass. When it dries out it would look nice. http://www.dreamstime.com/stoc…at-isolated-image19357113

For making haybales, there's lots of modern tools that you drag behind a tractor. As the grass is cut, its fed into the baler and the thing just automatically pops out a compressed hay bale whenever it gets full but I think for making a primitive one, its just a matter of using a pitchfork (we need one of those too) to make a pile

Maybe some additional recipies in the personal crafting menu will become dependant on which tool you are holding in your hand or have in your inventory

A blunt plug to another thread of mines, which attempts to explain why the "improvements" described or implied above might not necessarily be a wise choice, at least not for everybody and not unconditionally. :whistling: ...

You've made some excellent points there and I'm actually trying to work out a map of our evolution through the ages. Right now, I think the focus of this thread is to put out some ideas for primitive crafting (Stone Age presumably). I'll try and get something out on that thread tonight. I'm trying to actually get work done at work and not daydream about Rising World! And your thread just opened up a big can of worms (that's a good thing tho.. this needs to be discussed if RW is going to really stand out from other crafting/survival games.

That's surprising seeing Vortac back here. Nice! And a morale boost to see him mention wanting to do more videos on them because both Vortac & Weem did it the best. Formal, yet fun take on things. Informative. Also wanting to correct one of my posts above that I said 'weemcast' wanted bookshelves, yet it was Vortac when making the bakery & such. Long ago so I guess it doesn't really matter.

And these sticks are in Rising World, right? I take it that useless hedge we keep seeing shall drop sticks, or from prying it from trees. Not cutting trees, but snapping branches & such, but with pressing 'F'. Makes me wonder what Foxfire knows from his secret conversations with Red51

I'm not at liberty to discuss this!! He's watching me! O_o

I agree that those useless hedges would be an excellent source of sticks. I chatted with Red a few nights back and he confirmed that he is going to add sticks and stones. They're likely going to spawn randomly and can be picked up like in The Forest. Around that time, we will start a new game barehanded, without the iron axe and pickaxe. We will then have to craft primitive tools and work our way up to finally crafting that anvil. I don't know exactly what (if anything) will be used for fibers. I know you and I brought up all sorts of suggestions about certain versatile plants (some of which are being implemented) but someone on Steam suggested gathering plant fibers from grass. Its a good idea to start with but I just assumed that tall grass was not exactly the strongest of plant fibers to use. The discussion came up in a thread about crafting hay bales. A suggestion for a drying rack for meats , thatch, and grass came up as well.

What does everyone else think about the grass idea? Let's say you grab the grass with your barehands to get plant fibers, cut the grass with the scythe to get tall grass for certain crafting needs such as hay bales, or use the sickle to get seeds for replanting (maybe the current tall grass icon could be replaced with grass seeds).

That is because you only want to have the discussion on your terms, that is: gun control. I have challenged your premise and gave you reasons why I found it invalid. You have not responded to my assertions, and just continued to insist that I cede you this point: that mass shooting are a result of lax gun laws, which should be made stricter. That I don't accept that premise does not make me unserious.

Anyway, we will end our back-and-forth's as you wish, as they are fruitless, as I said earlier. No hard feelings.

I shared my thoughts on a solution, you disagreed so I asked what your thoughts were. You responded to my question with another question. But yeah, no hard feelings tho

I don't feel you are serious about having a discussion. I asked what you feel is the solution to stop or reduce the apparent problem we have in this country with mass shoootings yet you have not provided an answer. I will not have this conversation with you anymore.

Well that's fine. I'm still curious on what you think a practical solution is. BTW, when I talk about solving the issue of mass shootings I'm also lumping in the school shooters as well.

I actually pitched the idea with Red to set up a git repository to host all lua scripts. One repo per script and that way we can have better version control. I'm not sure what free visual git web ui is available. I know github uses bitbucket which is expensive. I've maintained older command line stuff such as gitosis in the past for my company's old server.

Hmmm... Gitorious has its own web ui. that might be a great all-in-one solution. I'm currently running a web server and helping with getting the new wiki up and running. Fixing some issues with plugins and the CSS. I can throw gitosis on my test server and play with it. I was looking for a nice free open source alternative. I also envisioned a blueprint sharing system that could also use Git to upload a blueprint (with version control) to share with everyonw.

What about one of those mineshaft stone conveyor things that was transporting the stones out of the mineshafts in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom?

It doesnt matter if he's a Muslim terrorist, a Christian terrorist, or just a guy who experiences hallucenations.

I never suggested disarming free citizens. Most gun owners are responsible. My issue is with the current background check system. I've held a federal government job in the past and I can tell you from experience that it was a hell of a lot harder to pass that background check (in order to gain administrative access to a computer network at my job) than it was when I decided to purchase a gun. Clearly broken with that process. How did people like Dylan Roof pass his background? There were plenty of red flags that should have rejected his application.

It took me almost 6 months to pass my background check to access government computers at my job because every time one little minor mistake or omission was found on a form somewhere, the form got rejected and send back to me for correction. When I purchased my gun, I had it in my hands in less than two weeks. That doesn't seem like a problem to you?

I'm not wanting to start "argments" with you. I am open to discussions if they are rational. I'd like to know what you think is a feasible solution here, if not increased scrutiny on background checks.

I can confirm that I am indeed very interested in doing another (albeit small) Let's Play on Rising World. ;) I only say small because it's a lot more fun for me to do coverage of the game inbetween big updates while I sprinkle in other games to my channel lineup.

I think Weem would also revisit it. He's big into Ark at the moment.

Awesome to see you here Vortac. :)
I definitely look forward to see you revisiting this game. ARK was fun but it still had some crazy Minecraft-inspired tree punching involved which I'm happy to say will not be a thing in Rising World.

In one of the upcoming updates, the iron axe and iron pickaxe will be finally be dropped from our initial inventory. We are definitely going to be getting natural fallen sticks and stones which can be collected like in The Forest so we will have a basis for primitive crafting which will not involve punching trees to get wood. :)

    BeamMeUp,

It's ok, I'm not upset with Chris over that. I'm ok with talking about gun laws as long as we don't get too political. Some of the political responses to this tragedy are really what sickens me.

The shooter was able to legally buy guns after being on the FBI's watch list mean that our current background check system is a joke. Just like with the guy who killed people in the church, the background system obviously failed. An issue like that has to be looked at logically and should not be divided by politics.

Curious.. i got a similar comment from someone in Australia. Are guns also so rare that prices are raised so high that you cant even find cheap guns on the blackmarket?

Unfortunately not, basically each orientation is a separate block id. We cannot add more block id's at the moment without doing some adjustments to the way how blocks are stored in the database. That wouldn't be too much work, but it requires a conversion of existing worlds (and we don't want to do that too frequently, since there is always a chance that something may go wrong^^). There are some other changes we want to do to the block/construction system, so it's our intention to do all at once ;)

OOh, gotcha. I just assumed each block also had some rotation info bundled with it. I see the dilemma. And yes, database changes are not to be taken lightly.

Oh, please, no! Don't replace our inventory with a backpack. Imagine how tedious deep mining would become. I would love to add backpacks, though. And maybe if mine carts were a thing...

Well, I'm not in charge of developing here but, It would be nice to eventually switch to a backpack system with smaller inventory eventually. Once we have horse-drawn carts, mine carts, mine elevators and some kind of stone conveyor (hopefully) then there really wont be much need to have a massive player inventory and I know many others here want to do away with the Minecraft style of carrying aforest in your pocket.

Important: Boats need to be customized + have a storage chest container somewhere within to haul goods across the map. Learn from Minecraft's failures.

+1 for the idea of boat storage. Personally I don't want to go the route that ARK did were you can build a tiny raft as a platform and build upon it. In ARK you can build a mobile fortress on one map equipped with sevreal storage containers and all the crafting stations, furnaces, refrigerators, and defense turrets!!!!.

But some boat storage would be nice. Maybe a tiny chest with half the storage of a barrel would work. What I would wold like more than anything is to have a craftable backpack. I'd even be ok with the backpack replacing the existing player inventory which is massive (one can carry a whole forest in their pocket). The backpack can be worn or placed in the world and moved around as you wish. I can put a few items in the backpack and set it in down in your house, not a table, a chair, or even in the boat :)

Think that's a bit much for the game. Though exactly what I was getting at as the first tools to have in the game. The chipping method he was using could be applied to make ax heads I really wonder how far back Red will go with the tools. I would love to start off as a cave man and work my way up. Very interesting video I had never seen the grinding method before though it does make me want to grab a few stones and take my sander to them.......is that cheating?

Well.... Tim the tool man was kinda like a cave man ;-p

As far as how far back, thats up to Red. I mean, I don't want to be sitting in a simulation for hours just to make one stone tool. I'd rather go outside ;-p But I wouldn't mind simply picking up a river bed stone (since we have all this gravel near lakes and ponds) and crafting a simple stone tool from my inventory menu. Then I can collect a natural stick (like i suggested before) and some plant fibers and make that first primitive axe :)
