Agreed. It would be nice to be able to place our clocks on the wall, or as part of a greater design, such as a grandfather or grandmother clock. The only issue for now, providing we can keep the current clock animation when placed, would be animating the pendulums and playing the audio aspects, such as the hourly bongs. However, it would definitely be easier to design one of those than it would be to design a fully functional cuckoo clock.

The next update will be available on Wednesday, December 18, in the early evening (GMT+1).
This update will not yet replace the Java version, instead it is the actual content update. We'll provide more information about the transition together with the update.

Really! Lots of possibilities. It seems like users are full of great ideas and many are very good builders. I wonder if Red has considered letting users build assets such a your shipwreck or other ruins and either allowing Red to just add it to the game, or to create a Community sharing system where users can pick additional assets to be added (and randomly spawned) into their games? I'm thinking about the huge community of people who build assets for Cities Skylines. These get added to the the Steam CS workshop and you can subscribe to the ones you want to use in the game.
Sandbox games does bring out the best in people. It would be nice if one day we could develop and design our own dungeons, such as the mentioned shipwreck, and it's probably going to eventually be a possibility, but I don't see it as such until after the game is out of alpha. The same goes with the object workshop. Cities Skylines does indeed have an amazing creative community when it comes to its workshop. But my worry about a game being handcuffed to Steam is its long-term dependency on Steam. What I'd love to see is something designed as part of the game's official website (library.rising-world.com?), that acts as a full-blown library for objects, blueprints, plugins, dungeons, and anything else that can be designed with an API in the future that could be accessed directly from inside Rising World itself. Imagine designing your house and realizing you need a lamp. You right-mouse click on your piece of furniture, a pop-up menu appears with possible options for lamps both from your downloads and those in the online library. That said, the strength of Steam for workshop design is a tough act to follow, but it's not impossible. If Playful can include access to their store inside of Creativerse, it's doable in Rising World as well.

Loving the heck out of the new release. Loving the weather, even though it shows up in my underground basement.
Unfortunately, that makes two Mac users with the same problem with rain in 0.8. The one screenshot with the rain makes it look like the furnace got too hot and the water sprinklers kicked in. I play alone, so it's interesting to learn what non-Mac users are seeing on the same server in instances like these.
For reference, Harv has a Macintosh but not sure which specific video card.
Apple Menu > About This Mac. I'm guessing the OS is 10.12 Sierra, which means there's a Displays tab there that will mention which card is in the Mac. Or alternatively, one can also view this information within the Rising World Settings menu under the Graphics section. It's at the bottom just above the Reset Settings and Save Settings buttons. I wouldn't mind knowing what card is in that Mac, and I'm sure it would be beneficial to Red to figure this problem out.

Edit 2: Well, speaking of raining inside, I was mining underground and all of a sudden I started hearing the sound of wet footsteps (that's a pretty nice addition by the way!). I wasn't too deep down in, so I assumed it could be rain flowing down from the entrance and into the cave, which would definitely result in a wet floor (and a very nice detail) but I don't suppose that should happen? There was no rain inside though, just the sound of wet footseps was all, but maybe this can help somehow...I don't know.
Quirky. I didn't know Red was adding ghosts to the game. It could be that while I'm the only person having to deal with indoor rain, you're dealing with the residual effect of what would happen if it were raining indoors. I'm unable to play until tonight, so if there has been a mini-update since I was on yesterday, I'll know then.
As for the driver issue, as the Swahili saying goes: hakuna matata.

While I haven't seen boars or polar bears yet in the latest version (v0.8), if they're as amazingly detailed as the deer I saw in the mountains yesterday, then I look forward to encountering both of them. Even if I have to be chased by them while in awe. But I wanted to put in my five cents for future fauna and flora suggestions.
The beaches need your attention. They are devoid of animals except those who happen to occasionally wander there.
I'm sure birds will one day take flight in Rising World, and when that happens, I don't know how long after that before we get carpet-bombed by them, but even if they can't take flight right away, it would be interesting to see sea gulls or piling plovers on the beach. Or pelicans, terns, crabs, lobster, seals, and sea turtles, for that matter. Maybe even a frog, but it would do better in a bog biome along with crocodiles, which is a topic for a future date. And we already have penguins, but they're enjoying the snowy biomes.
On the flora side of things, we already have palm trees, so it would be nice to one day add coconuts to them. The beaches could also have bayhops (railroad vines). There is already tall grass and stony terrain on occasional spots on the beaches, so they're already covered. Plus the rarer red seaweed that sometimes grows outside of the water.
That said, an old shipwreck on the beach would make for both an interesting "dungeon" and a way to liven up the beaches. Crates and chests could be found in their hulls with some worthwhile holdings of their own. Maybe it was a slaver ship and some of the dead slaves' skeletal remains come to life to attack us. Or maybe it's the dead crew that attacks us. So many possibilities.
This is a spur of the moment thought/rambling, so I would invite anyone with additional ideas for the beaches to add them to this thread.

By old world I mean a world existing prior to the update, so yes, an August 2016 world would be old as it's prior to the update.
Also well, GTX 780M is a laptop card isn't it? Laptops generally don't receive driver updates cause their drivers are designed specifically for the machine they run on, so it's rare that a manifacturer will release new drivers for it. I can say though I have no problem with my GTX 660Ti if that's of any help. But yeah, that's weird that it rains inside anyway...
As an update, I started a new world and the problem with rain inside structures persisted. And deep into mines as well, but if you go deep enough, the rain ceases. The problem with Rising World is you can't just start a new world and test something. You find yourself wanting to explore. And mine. And explore some more. Heheh Of course, the same goes with any game that's this good.
While raining inside is weird, at least it doesn't pool, and I can live with that as long as it never pools. When it does, then it's on to plan B: basement pool with a slide for stairs.
As for the GTX 780M, NVIDIA seems to have designed it for laptops, but Apple used it inside one of their 27" iMac i7 models. Most likely because it best fit inside their thin monitors. The NVIDIA site does not mention Apple products under the driver information, but it does state the Linux OS recently (Dec 16, 2016) received a driver update. I wrote NVIDIA for more information and am awaiting a response (fingers crossed it'll be this century). There is also a possibility that Apple designed its own driver for the card, and that's where I'm going next. Or after supper.
But it is nice to know your GTX card works for you. Mac laptop or PC?
On another note, I see deer think they're fish. One wandered into a pool of water, fell sideways, and hey, I got a deer pelt for its trouble. Just no meat.

That is very weird. I have been building some shelters from the rain and I got no rain coming inside...maybe it's an old world bug? But well, hope this can help in some way...it doesn't happen for me...or hasn't so far.
Old world? Depends. Would a world created in late August 2016 be considered an old world?
That's strange... does it always rain inside buildings? It may be a driver issue, or maybe a specific Mac issue?
Since the rain arrived, yes, I take a "shower" inside my builds each time it rains. Might I request adding soap to the rain? The rain may get the dust off, but it would be nice to use a bit of soap. Heheh I'll try creating a new world and see if it does it in there as well, then I'll report back in this thread. Since no other Mac user has yet complained about the rain, the chance of it being a Mac issue is diminished. A driver issue is a maybe. I'll have to check and see if an update has recently been released for the 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M.

I put in a bit more time tonight and decided I would go on a mini-walkabout. Over the hills and through the woods I went, but I could not find grandmother's abandoned shack anywhere. I did discover the penguins are quite vocal, though. The aura around the torchlight is amazing. I also noticed you now need four sands to make a glass pane. Nice. The saloon doors still worked flawlessly for me, and while it still rained inside my builds, the sound effects are great, and the clouds are ominous. Unfortunately, by the time it finally started to rain, I was back at my beach house, so I've yet to test for rain inside of shallow mines or underground builds. I also love the moon. I'm one to use the Z key a lot when I take screenshots, and zooming in on the moon never disappoints.
The idea of a mattress to allow us to make our own beds is great. But, is there a chance in the future to be able to resize the mattress, or give us options for multi-sized mattresses via the workbench?
I would also love to see us being able to take the grates and swivel them to place them horizontally.
That said, I'll perform more testing tomorrow. But for now, good job, guys.

Is there a bug where it rains inside your builds? The reason that I ask is because when it started raining, I ran into my house, only to find it was raining in there as well. I ran to the basement, and more rain. I have no idea about the second floor of the attic, but rain on the main floor and the basement would make me guess that yes, my bed is indeed soaked on the second floor, or my toilet is overflowing, and in which case, does anyone know a good plumber in Rising World?

[Bugfix] Fixed start issues on MacOS
Just to confirm, I can now get into the game without a problem. I'm a bit limited in time right now, but I tried all the workbenches and that worked, and the quarter moon looked very nice in the sky. I'll look further around after supper. Thank you very much, Red, for your hard work and quickness.
-
Great news Mac users! Looks like the current mac issue is now fixed in code. Red's working through other issues such as the dungeon spawning and other stuff before releasing a patch
Heheheh It is great news indeed for us Mac users. I'm patient for the release, though. I have between 10-15 cm of snow to shovel first. Good cardio. Red can take whatever time he needs in the meanwhile to fix as much as possible. Happy New Year to you.
-
Thanks a lot for the errorlog! I found out what's wrong with the Mac version, I will fix it as soon as possible
I'm glad to be of help, and I look forward to the update. Happy New Year to you and your crew by the way.

Oh, I've seen it before, like on Ark Survival, but the delay was usually less than a day. Ya gotta understand that we are a serious minority in the gaming world, and it only makes sense to take care of the vast majority first. I don't have a serious problem with it.
I guess I've just been very lucky until now. Too bad the streak had to be broken on New Year's Eve, but then, there are much better things to do on NYE than play video games, so I'll call this a blessing, enjoy the festivities, and be back tomorrow. Have yourself a Happy New Year.

yep i think that's the price you pay for very cloesed source systems well there's nothing else to do then wait and hope
Actually, this is a first since I started playing games on Steam years ago that an update didn't run on my Mac the moment it came out on Steam. While this time it could be a Mac issue, it's very much unexpected.

Anyone running a MacOS able to play the new update?
As mentioned in the other thread entitled "first bug report for 0.8," nope. Every once in a while, I try again, and I still get the same crash log as I posted in that other thread hours ago. So I patiently wait for an update.
-
So, the problem isn't because I was running macOS 10.12.1 instead of the latest 10.12.2 update. And my system states Java is up to date. But with LTDan and I being Mac users with this problem, I can't help but wonder if there are other Mac users who are in the same boat. Are there any Mac users out there who have been able to run the Dungeons update without a problem?

Game won't load on Mac
I second that comment. It took an eternity for Steam to show the game up here in Canada, and when it finally showed up, I hit the Play button and while it first showed me a full black screen (with mouse pointer), it then quit back to the desktop within five seconds. I did see the Debugging Console pop up briefly while it loaded, but it was gone by the time the game shut down.
Red: I've included attachments of the crash log that kept being created each time it crashed (all eight are the same), as well as a screen grab of the Debugging Console.

38 players on a RW server? Good luck with that. And yes, there seems to be a lot of extra butt hurt today. *sigh* But hey, bacon sounds good.
With a game this good, good luck isn't needed. 40 players on as I type this. The bacon was very tasty.
And holy Moses! Check out this changelog!!
steamcommunity.com/app/324080/…ons/0/620700960407155814/
That's quite the list. Number three on the list (weather) leaves me breathing a sigh of relief that I decided to put a roof on my beach house. Although if the water pools, I wonder if I could have had an attic pool going. Heheh

We still have another hour left to the deployment window and even if it takes another hour or two after that, so what?
Exactly. It's only 11:04 a.m. over here and I trust if Red delays, then there's a good reason. I'm sure he expect glitches. But I'm also sure he doesn't want these glitches to be cataclysmic. The game is called Rising World, not Crashing World. My wonder is whether we'll be able to beat the 38 members that were on at the same time on October 17th. Last I looked, we were at 36. Fingers crossed. Breakfast time for me. The eggs & Canadian bacon are calling. I'll stay connected to help us get to 39+.

Just off a recent forum discussion on the compass and how it could be bettered, I started pondering a new idea that I personally think would be a nice add-on for the game.
This idea is an all-in-one device that could act like our smartphones do nowadays:
- Multi-coordinate programmable navigation system via GPS;
- In-game "texting" between active players;
- The ability to place "phone calls" to other active players;
- Note-taking and journal-writing capabilities (possibly replacing the in-game Journal);
- Flashlight option;
- Time and timers;
- Basic construction tools like levels and measures;
- Camera that takes HUD-free photos (and maybe even include flash, video, and blueprints);
- Photo application to store the camera's photos, videos, and blueprints;
- In-game sound and music controls that could access your own music;
- A chime and vibrate (in-game low hum) for notifications;
- A calendar feature that could work with the note-taking capabilities and the camera's photos;
- A world map that could include where GPS coordinates, photos, videos, and notes were taken;
- Active temperature where you're standing, be it above- or underground;
- Later, it could also include weather forecasts, hints and tips for gameplay, IoT automation, and more.
I could see such a device needing to be constructed with ore just like the ore detector. Maybe silicon could be brought into the game by then. This device would also have a backlit display so we could see the screen even in the darkest corners of the Rising World.
I know that some of these features are accessible via the F3 key, but it would be nice if we had to rely less on that key, and more on the ingenuity of the game and plugins developers.
Whether done as a plugin or as a direct part of the game, I can see this as being a massive project, and I can see it being introduced in stages. Maybe as a "plugin to control all plugins."
