    Interesting. Again. :D

This may be happening to me, too, but I didn't recognize it as a RW problem (and I'm still not convinced it is, per se), since there is no fanfare or notification when it happens. In my case, I'm just playing the game and then suddenly I'm not. No alerts, no side effects, no nothing. I assumed I just lost connection or Steam dropped me, but after your posts here I checked my logs in the Steam/steamapps/common/RisingWorld folder and found several logs just like yours. Maybe one or two a day, and I'm on RW a LOT. :whistling:

Our error logs are extremely similar. Same hardware, same JRE versions and everything. Fact is, the crash seems to be deep in the bowels of the JRE itself. Not as much fun to read as the RW server logs.

I will now pay more attention to these occurrences and see if there are log reports when it happens. In my case I have noticed one particular circumstance that seems to precede these incidents at least some of the time. Namely, when I let the game go idle while I handle a phone call or whatever, and then return to it several minutes (or more) later, as soon as I touch the game window it happens. Too many like that to be imagining it.

If I can narrow down the circumstances, I might find a clue. ;)

The "ghosts" appear to me to be a part of the rendering process we don't normally see. I'm guessing red51 knows exactly what they are, but it certainly isn't high enough priority to distract him from more important issues. ;)

    Welcome, Thorfinn.

A little about yourself, eh? The long version must really be something. :D

I’m also in California. For all I know you’re in the house down the street. Back when I was your age, I was not retired, and in fact I’m barely semi-retired now. Congratulations on doing it early.

I never considered myself a gamer, since I don’t count even the enjoyable time I spent with my son and his Nintendo games. It was only fun because I was playing with him. He eventually introduced me to the (then new) game called Minecraft. THAT became an addiction, and I still dabble in the game to this day. Between then and now I got fairly hooked on Ark Survival Evolved and put in a few thousand hours before I got disenchanted with the direction the developers were taking. After I left that game, I looked for something vaguely resembling Minecraft, but with more realism and difficulty. Rising World fits the bill and is now my new obsession.

Yes, it’s early access, but I find it infinitely playable already. Yes, grid placement is in survival, too. You’ve already noticed the water is static at this point. The dynamic version is planned (maybe tonight?) for the future. There are so many possibilites for this release it’s hard to predict. We have great respect for red51 as a developer, and he takes very good care of us. I think the game has a great future.

Who knows, Thorfinn, maybe I’ll see you in-game.

Updates are seldom right on time, although red51 does better than most.

The process will take as long as it takes, so just keep alert and maybe cross some fingers. We don't even know for sure what will be included in this release, but that makes it sort of like Christmas morning.

    MommaT -

It's surprising that we're having such different experiences when our systems are so similar. The only significant difference I see is our video boards.

I typically, like right now, have 2 RW clients running, along with a local RW server, Discord, Steam, Eclipse (my plugin development environment), Chromium browser with WAY too many tabs open, GIMP (my Photoshop replacement), Preview, CyberDuck, 2 Terminal sessions (to monitor both my local and remote servers), Contacts, and System Preferences. And I almost always have a YouTube stream going. All performing smoothly. I also leave it all running 24/7, and very seldom reboot. Go figure.

As for recording for YouTube videos, I tried all kinds of software (okay, I focused on the free ones), but I finally settled on Movavi Screen Capture Studio 3. I actually spent a few bucks on that one, but it does the job for me. Although I have significant experience with Final Cut Pro, I am now editing all my YouTube videos with iMovie, which is more than sufficient for that task.

I chat with Steam friends in the Friends window while I play. Does that mean I'm using the Steam overlay? Guess I'm not real clear on what that actually does.

And having said all that, I have rain in my basement and you don't. :/ Gotta love technology... when it works.

    No joy, MommaT. :(

I tried your suggestion of creating a brand new world with a brand new seed, but the rain still follows me indoors or out.

I can't make sense out the fact it is fixed for you. There has been no new patch or release since this problem was last reported. It would seem that maybe something has changed in your local environment, and I'd love to know what it was.

the issue with rain happening inside and not through the glass has been fixed on mac

Okay, the Steam problem is fixed and I can log in again, but it still rains indoors. You must be using an umbrella. ^^

4 times its normal length should consume 64 times as many blocks... (4^3 = 64)

    Uhh... Why are you cubing it? Normal length = 1. 4 x 1 = 4

I was just stretching one dimension, like stretching a single cylinder into a long log.
    You're stretching all dimensions?

When choosing in the block menu, are you double-clicking the one you want? That works for me. I guess I didn't mention that part.

I have now ordered a mouse, which I hope will resolve the problem!

Good idea. I can barely play Minecraft with a trackpad, and it's frustrating.

If you plan to make YouTube videos it might be best to use a 1280 x 720 window, since that's what YouTube is optimized for.

I use a 27-inch iMac with a 2560 x 1440 native resolution screen. I find that full screen, although it plays well enough, is kinda overwhelming. Immersion over-kill. :D

Using 1280 x 720 all the time allows me to have multiple RW games running at the same time (like single-player and multi-player). It also allows me to keep a browser window, Discord window, etc. on-screen at the same time I'm playing the game.

Having multiple computers or monitors is another way to go for this, but it's nice to just have the one screen to look at. Easier on the neck. :S

Bottom line -- whatever suits your preference is fine with Rising World.

you will be able to place, rotate and scale it without any restrictions

zfoxfire and I were having a discussion about this and we were wondering if stretching a block to, say, 4 times its normal length would consume 4 times as many blocks from your inventory? If not, it almost seems like an exploit.

Either way, it would sure enhance our building capabilities.

    Hey, Billie --

I am a Mac user and have had some Mac-specific issues, but in this case it has nothing to do with Macs.

    1. You must right-click while still holding down the left button. True on all platforms.

    2. Once in placement mode, use the inventory key ('i') to open the block selection window. Escape to close it.

The + - keys only work from the numeric keypad. You can also use the 'page up' and 'page down keys'.
Note: not all keyboards have these keys, Mac or not. Compact keyboards just don't have them, so your solution of re-programming these functions to keys you do have is a good solution.

    Semi-conclusion --

The black ghosts behave like dropped items after the tree is removed, and they disappear after the normal period of time for dropped objects. As long as the tree is still alive, the ghosts persist.

Only at underground levels. I might do some testing in single player.

Maybe red51 included this as a puzzle. :D

Not to keep beating a dead tree, but while I was harvesting the tree farm the server got rebooted (planned and controlled by zfoxfire). After the reboot I logged back in and discovered all of the trees I had already cut down lost their ghosts. I had already cut down the rest of them before I noticed that. Before I took a picture, I ran back the to dungeon to check on the untouched trees there. They still had their ghosts:

When I returned to the tree farm, Only one tree still had its ghost:

I have no idea what any of this means, but I'm just providing the information in case it is useful.

    Update -

Not far from the same dungeon as mentioned in the original post, I planted a small tree farm, again using birch trees. To my surprise, the ghosts were already visible before cutting down any trees. As the cave breeze sets them swaying, the black ghosts are revealed.

This time it's in a "Grass (DefaultBiome,0)" biome as opposed to the "Tundra (ColeBiome,1)" the dungeon is in. Apparently the issue is not biome-related. Hopefully it's not another Mac-related problem. ;(

I can easily understand why growing trees this far underground might not be considered a *normal* thing, but you never know what crazy things players might do. :whistling:

All things considered, I would expect this to be pretty far down on the issues-to-fix list, but it's worth a mention.

So I grew a couple of birch trees in front of my dungeon (level -170), but when I chopped them down I was startled to see a ghostly 2-dimensional black image of the trees still standing. They remain, even after re-logging and even re-starting the game. These ghosts are real. =O

I can't interact with them in any way, and my axe passes right through them, as you would expect with any self-respecting ghost.
I re-planted two more in the same spots, and when they grew to maturity, the ghosts could still be seen within the new trees.

When I chopped this second generation down, it was not too surprising to see a second set of ghosts intermingled with the first. How many ghosts can you fit on the head of a pin? ?(

The whole concept seems almost appropriate for a dungeon area, but I doubt this was intended. ^^

    Quote from Grylls

This is the most fun I've had in a game in years!

Same reaction I had, and I'm getting more into it every day. When I encounter people who are shying away 'cuz it's "early access", I tell them it's true, but it's TOTALLY playable already and getting better by the month.

    Welcome aboard.
