    The only biomes I am getting on any new map/seed I try is forest, only once did I get other biomes such as Artic or Desert sectors. I have tried created several new maps from new seeds but so far still only forests even after searching all areas of each map (but I bet next time I try I will get them lol!) any suggestions as to the problem?


    Actually I just noticed that regardless of the seed used the map is the same layout, it never changes. I'm using a standalone version although I also have a Steam version could that be the issue?

    You will always start at the equator in a temperate region. All of the islands to the east / west will be temperate biomes. Arctic biomes are far north islands and arid biomes are far south islands.

    The only time I get all biomes is on the large flat map but then the map is just blank with no features showing, not even the player icon. When I use any other settings other than large flat area I get nothing just the plains with forests. Uninstalling the steam version of the game appears to have resolved the issue of always getting the same map layout regardless of the seed used. I was under the impression that you needed access each biome to harvest ores only available in those locations therefore without them you can't progress in the game or maybe I'm wrong?

    Make sure you're playing the new version :) For the Standalone, it's a separate launcher (which need to be downloaded into a separate folder), while for the Steam version, a separate beta branch needs to be enabled first. To verify that the new version is running, you can check out the version number in the lower left corner in the main menu (it's 0.8.0.2 right now for the new version - if it's 0.9.6 instead, it's the old Java version).


    As mentioned by CursedXistence , basically you will have to travel to another island to find arctic or arid regions. There is always an arctic (snow) region north to your starter island and always an arid (desert) island south to your starter island ;) This is on all world types (including flat worlds).

    Yes, I am playing the new version and the Standalone is in a separate fold. I uninstalled the Steam version in case of conflicts and it did appear to resolve the issue of the map being the same terrain (layout) regardless of the seed used. However, I had updated my version to 0.8 only recently not realising that there was a further update since to 0.8.0.2 which I have since installed. As I stated, I travelled in all directions yet still no change to the biomes, the only exception is when I choose flat terrain, then I get all biomes within a short distance of the start point.

    you need to build a boat and sail north for arctic biome and south for desert biome. away from the "island" you started on.
