Steam/Linux crashes about 10/11% when loading new maps

    Mint 14 here - crashes without fail on loading new maps.

    Tried this on two maps - fails every time.


    Any ideas?
    Fails in the same place - in the UNSHADEDMATERIAL line... which makes me think it's something in the UNSHADEDMATERIAL section!

  • Thanks for the log! The problem seems to be caused by insufficient memory, especially since you're using a 32 bit OS. Please try to reduce your view distance and especially detail distance in the settings, that might solve the issue.

    Of course, I've never actually gotten to load any maps, as it dies at 10/11%...


    I've got 4G of ram... any more ideas?

    I've also set the view to 3 and detail distance to 5 chunks as well and running windowed at 1024 x 768.


    Crashes now at 12%...

    i don't play games on Linux because of driver problems, maybe your problem might just be this a video card driver problem

    I've not even gotten to the actual game yet (plus none of my other games including Minecraft - using oodles of mods, Witcher 2, X3, Civ 5, etc have any problems at all.)


    Looks to me like Java is not being assigned enough memory to run the game from the executable on Steam... but I don't know what - or how - to set to change that.


    It's easy enough on Minecraft, with ironically had a similar issue where Java was not being set enough memory to run the game.


  • Our executable is designed to read out your memory and then decide how much it is going to give to the VM. However IF there are any issues Java sided, we can´t fix those, but since many people have played it before without any issues I doubt that.
    What is your actual distro name?

  • Please shutdown all background programs when running the game.
    You could also try to manually assign memory to the game, I remember there was another case in the past with 32 bit Linux causing problems with default memory configuration (it was a little bit different though, the game was unable to start at all). Please rightclick on Rising World in Steam -> Properties -> Set launch options and try one of the following:
    +memory 768 768
    +memory 768 512
    +memory 1024 768
    +memory 1024 512
    +memory 512 512
