A new update is now available, introducing "Points of interest" and many more changes!
Latest hotfix: 0.9 (2025-11-05)

One thing that's important about the game is that it uses two different "types" of memory: heap and direct memory. Heap memory is basically the "default" memory, most regular game stuff goes there (information about the world, game data, player data etc), direct memory is used for native things (basically everything that needs to be sent to the graphics card, e.g. textures, meshes etc).
You can change the heap memory with the -Xmx launch option (as mentioned by @zfoxfire), and to change the direct memory, you have to use the -XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=... option.

Example (to allocate 3 GB heap memory and 3 GB direct memory):
    java -jar -XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=3072m -Xmx3072m risingworld.jar

I've also attached another exe for the standalone which allocates 3 GB heap + 3 GB direct memory automatically :)

(this only works for the standalone version, it does not work for the Steam version)

Sorry, dass meine Antwort so lange auf sich hat warten lassen! :( Besteht seit dem gestrigen Hotfix das Problem weiterhin?
Also du Java neu installiert hast, hast du es zuvor deinstalliert?

Ore Detector: Yes, no text on the detector. The ore text show up on the main screen (briefly) not on the detector itself. I believe it used to show on the detector.

Hmm... is maybe the graphic_logarithmic_depthbuffer setting in your config.properties file set to true? It looks like it's still causing some issues with the rendering order in some cases (probably that's the reason why the text isn't visible on the ore detector)

Falling Through World: THIS APPEARS RESOVED! THANKS!

Thanks for the feedback, glad to hear that

Placing cooking grill isn't working, I tried but summoning it with the console command and crafting it. It shows in the inventory correctly, a 4 legged flat grill to set over the fireplace/campfire. When I attempt to place it is invisible: nothing showing at all.

Unfortunately you can't place the cooking grill everywhere, as @Jon_miner mentioned. You can only place it on a campfire ^^

I actually have not been able to reproduce it and players do appear to be showing up just fine now.

We really have to keep an eye on this issue. It seems to be an old bug...

Would be awesome to have a suit to go with it

Hehe, maybe we get one ready for Christmas :D

As far as I see, every weapon one shot any mob. I just try to shoot an elephant with the crossbow and it was one shot. It would be more « survival » to had more hitpoints to mobs or reduce damage from these weapons ? perhaps add a «headshot» reward (critical damage) witch one shot, but bears and big animals need to be more difficult to face on I think.

Yes, that's true. We definitely want to improve that, and we also need a proper headshot detection ^^

I think steel pickaxe will be underused. I love it, but the mining drill is more « sexy » for sometime less effort (mithril is deep, or you manage to find a dungeon, mining drill require only basic ores)

You're right. I think we need to change the recipes. However, the mithril requirement is anyway just a temporary solution for the steel pickaxe, until steel is available^^

Do not see other players! Sometimes, and had to relog.

That's strange... I have seen similar issues prior the update, but it didn't happen very often. Is there maybe a way to reproduce it?

nvm Think I understand now. Works just like the "setinventory". Right?

Yes, indeed, your current clothes will serve as default spawn outfit then :)

Get meter to move and sounds, but no text in the meter window

    No text? 8|

    Can't remove hats.

It seems that dragging the clothes seems to be tricky sometimes... we need to improve that. If we don't find a satisfying solution, we will probably just create separate slots for that or something like that ^^

I did the command while wearing what I want as the "default", but new players are still naked [...] The default clothing DOES appear to be working. Nice change!

Hehe, yeah, it only affects players who join the server for the first time.

@red51 Really big issues with "falling through the world" when using "Protals" or "Teleporting" since this update. Help!

We just released another hotfix which should hopefully fix this issue! Sorry about that

@red51 Could you make arrows and bullets destroy glass?

    Definitely planned^^

    My paper press isn't working

What's happening exactly? Maybe create a separate topic about that ;)

It's for the whole server, but it doesn't really have a big impact on performance. Some server owners reported issues when the connections were set to a higher number than 10, we're still looking into this issue, but until it's fixed, I'd recommend to stick to 10 connections ;)

Ein neues Update ist nun verfügbar, welches (hoffentlich) die meisten Bugs beheben sollte ;) Serverbetreiber müssen ihre Server entsprechend aktualisieren.

Thanks for letting us know, this will be fixed with the next hotfix :)

He also had a good idea about adding the keybinding to the mouseover description in the inventory, e.g. "Clock (O Key)"

Oh, this sounds like a good idea! We'll put that on our list

Also, attachment with all my sound stuff for Icon58, and maybe for Red51 to take a peak at.

Thanks, but the adapters are fine. The sound memory bug isn't on your side, most players are suffering from it. The good news is, we finally fixed this bug, a hotfix will be available in a few hours. Memory consumption still needs some optimizations (the new models and textures are much more memory consuming), but things should work a lot smoother after the hotfix ^^

frosted glass looks like regular glass

That still needs to be fixed ;)

I am getting reports from my people that the steel pick takes 2 hits to collect material where the drill takes 3. Isn't it supposed the be the other way around?

What do you mean exactly with "the drill takes 3"? 8|

Did the rate of tree growth get modified with this update? I am getting reports that trees are taking a long time to reach maturity. I this potentially set to long?

No, we didn't touch it with this update. It is quite long, however. Originally we had a much lower growth time, but it was requested to increase it (it was more than a year ago).
Probably the growth time is something that need a separate setting^^

@red51 We are experiencing an error that resets our server when crafting clothes on the loom and then placing them in a crate.

Thanks for the errorlog, this bug will be fixed with the next hotfix (this evening) :)

Also wanted to post that sitting on the chair from the player's perspective is too high that it should be lowered for sitting. I say this when noting the wooden chair, yet would apply this to all chairs.

Yeah, most sitting positions are still wrong. We couldn't change them prior this update (since the animations of the player changed anyway), but there wasn't enough time yet to fix the sitting positions for all chairs. This will change very soon^^

Bug when using the snow material: When adding, subtracting or smoothing, sometimes the snow turns dark like in the attached image

Hmm... well, this isn't exactly a bug. It's caused by the way how shadows are generated. We will definitely improve that in the future.... btw, this snow tower looks awesome!

Also for the chair being to high I had to redo some of my blueprints 2 benches and a picnic table because the chair (id14 i fink it was) is now bigger then before

Yes, unfortunately the size of the chair was changed... it was way too small prior this update and it didn't fit to the new player models (which are slightly bigger than the old ones). I'm sorry for the hassle :/

The worst settlement for this sound issue & lagging is 'Brisko Village', my desert city

There is definitely something wrong with the sound stuff, but we're working on it. I guess it will be fixed soon!

The time now, reason why I'm posting this, I walked back to my fort where I can now no longer hear the footsteps

Yeah, it's basically the same issue. Apparently too many sound instances get created, this is clogging up the memory and slows down the game, but also causes sounds to stop suddenly or being missing completely...

ALso, posters phase through walls that you can see them clearly phasing through my Canadian Tower & mini museum/Touristy center. You know about that one though, yet still noting it here......

Compared to the sound problems, the poster issue is a really small bug :D A hotfix will be available in the next days solving this issue^^
