A new update (0.9.2) is available now!
Latest Hotfix: 0.9.2.1 (2026-05-13)

I felt this was necessary because we're now in the age of VR games while also waiting for Rising World to go VR as well. Red51 noted Rising World would go VR, thus the VR hype, just that it'll take quite a bit getting there. Also, Steam has a lot of junkware that we also need a list to see what fits with Rising World + what may also be fun games on the side here. I'll start the list off with VRChat because it shows what VR is actually capable of to then add things as we go. I'll update the list whenever I find anything worthwhile.

If you notice any games of interest please do share as well. I'm curious; Other people may play it.

Don't be shy! Please feel free to share any games you deem worthwhile. However, do note that I'm adding actual proper games worthwhile of your times that I also put this together after seeing so many shoverware/junkware software on steam.

    (Last Updated: May 10th, 2018)

I'm wanting to show you something that's been done so awesomely, yet undone by something silly. It's awesome, yet treated so strangly that it leaves a horrible "aftertaste" lingering that this is not how you want things to go. The game is called 'War Robot VR: First Strike' that it's a VR 'tech demo' trying to hype you up to the point of playing a crappy mobile game. Maybe the mobile game is awesome, just that I find them lazy because that's the easy way out into making games. The controls for the game feel perfectly weighted and solid that you look around with your headset that it has some delay (weighted) for mecha simulation purposes. You aim by looking in that direction to then use the left and right trigger to fire weapons.

    - Homepage: https://pixonic.com/en/games/war-robots-vr
    - Steam Page: http://store.steampowered.com/…r_Robots_VR_The_Skirmish/
    - Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixonic/war-robots-vr

The game is only about 5-7 minutes long that I would love an actual proper mecha game out of this. THIS is how you make a VR game where you actually feel like you're there while making high enough use of the VR devices. THIS is a good way to make VR games, just not the cheap tactic of using it to sell "crappy" (subjective) mobile games that you'd leave the VR community alienated and insulted that they're then forced to (re)play 5-7 minutes of a demo, something I've shown in my video above.

The developers wanted to use 'Kickstarter' to fund the multiplayer side of things, yet failed because they slacked on posting updates + didn't really do much. They expected to be magically funded that they should have instead used Patreon for the sleeper funders to have the game funded. We (gamers) want this sort of detailed game, just that someone experienced has to tackle this type of field..... How I wish we'll have a Mech Warrior and Gundam VR game........ I'm both happy and frustratingly pissed off about this whole demo because it's perfect, yet needs to be expanded so much..... This is what VR is capable of, and much MUCH more (view VRChat for more).

Just a loose posting noting NPCs now that we have dummy NPCs

    - For "if" & "when" we do gain actual NPC companions (or helpers) that their assistance should be similar to what's in Dragon Quest Builders + Stonehearth. Their help should come at being fed food & water + tools degrading that you'd need to keep making new ones for them (less so if they're modern tools where they'll need to be repaired).

    - NPCs should have a leveling system that they'd specialize in some things, less so in others. Some would be better lumber jacks while others be better fisherman. It may feel appropriate to have naturally, as well as set things up plugin wise as well.

    - NPCs should seek out beds, sitting areas, and etc. This was noted, yet posting here because I'd love to see immersion with NPCs that I want to see them interact with the world like a player.

Sorry Red51, can you also make these NPCs spawn via a book item whenever ready in survival mode? Console commands are neat, yet I keep being asked if I can enable console commands to my server players that it be neat if we could have something "lesser" for those lower on the ladder of accessibility. Or maybe we can somehow tie this in with a plugin..... I guess until that happens I'm going to have to figure out how to fiddle with NPCs while wearing their clothing per request.

I'd be surprised if you got this joke that it may require a Google search....

"Look! The east is burning red!"

    ----

Well, I'm loving how we have more control over these NPCs that I love how you can name them, configure them, and such. The GUI works nicely that I wish it was more of an item related spawning, yet this works. Maybe a plugin could be made survival wise, or something, but until then I do love the GUI in this. The old NPC I had before disappeared while the ones I spawned in recently stayed there. I'm clocking them to see how long they stay. I guess each NPC update shall reset them that it's best to simply leave them there for experimental purposes. I spawn the NPC in, I lock them in, then I customize them, and then just let them be. Their names registers them as players that you can see where they are that they give me a smile for when we gain actual NPC Companions. We're so close now!

The only gripe I have now is that we can't change clothing appearances yet won't pester Red51 for that because there's a lot on his plate. It be nice though, and I guess it'll come with time so I'm just loosely mentioning that I'd love an outfit portion of the GUI, unless I'm somehow missing it.

So, the majority of what I noted being "on the list" has made me happy. Awesome. Glad we'll have a GUI for simplicity because it's a bit too tedious probably as noted from side observations. Nice.

I also put that on our list. Assigning a task like "sit on the nearest chair" or "sleep in the nearest bed" should be possible. I'm curious how even some more complex stuff like "play the nearest piano" will turn out :D

Oh! This made me laugh. I'm curious to see what madness you'll have waiting for us once ready. I would love to see an NPC playing randomized sheet music haha. When developers do random things like this you know things are perfectly normal.

Well, coloring clothes (or armor) is planned anyway, but somehow this was pushed back now due to the other stuff that's in the pipeline Let's see when we get some time to focus on that^^

Awesome. I'm just spoiled by your typical RPG games + Guild Wars + Japanese's (+18) Illusion made games (Koikatu being latest title) that it be interesting to see some of it back in Rising World. There's no rush.... Do what you can, yet it be a neat thing adding onto the whole picture of things like a puzzle. "it's ready when ready".

A nice surprising update to be had. Surprised to have NPCs at this point taking them happily. Also, I'm well aware this is just the beginning for Dummy NPCs, just needing to get this out when playing before it's lost in the void of time. I'm hyped we finally have NPCs that I'm actually quite excited. I'm glad they're here.

    1) A GUI (PNB style) to allow us to cycle through making an NPC by selecting their gender, clothing types, and etc. Both a Creative mode & survival form would be handy where in survival you could just swap out their inventory. (May be more of a plugin thing).
    2) Have Dummy NPCs seek out a bed, or assign a bed for them to seek. They're sleeping on the floor like hobos.
2.5) Would be neat if you could make them sit on a nearby chair, or assign furniture for them to interact with. I'm aware they're dummy npcs while seeking a more "immersive" way to go about this. Sorry.
    3) One of my test Knights drowned himself at my port to then get stuck in a repetitive death cycle of painfully falling to his death.... At least have some sense of heights.....
    4) NPCs need a 'patrol' route that they should follow. I'll use the lock command, yet they need to be able to also follow a "patrol" route you can set (even at random).
4.1) A follow command would be handy so you can set them up where you want them.
    5) I love the clanking of the Knight armour. It's awesome, yet would also love a cape to go with it..... Can we even have decorative knight armour and cape? The armour clanking is music to my ears. The amount of iron plates needed..... Ouch. Wish we could customize our knight armour using dyes.... Just thinking in the far future while being spoiled by RPGs.
    6) Bunny mask is amusing.
    7) I love the chainsaw now that it's an amusing deforesting beast. My tree farms shall be able to rotate far more easily now with less time wasted. :D
    8) I'm having a little issue with the big furnaces that placing ores in the trays is clunky. It tends to skip out on a few of them that you have to go back to fill the slot back in with ore. Retrieving ingots is a breeze, just placing them in to cook is a hassle.

Well, I'll have to lock NPCs in place because they enjoy killing themselves.... They're too brainless (as their name states) that they're just dummies. Now curious if NPCs can hold onto items, or if that needs to be enabled in their hand. If they can hold onto weapons that be awesome.

The dense fog in the game is actually accurate that you could only see a certain distance. I once had to walk to highschool in the morning when see about about a bus length's distance in front of you that you can see just how dance it is. Also, try getting fog or dense fog in a forested snow biome in Rising World, that is a beauty! :D

One thing I hope we get is freezing rain foggy shiny because of how beautiful it is. When freezing rain is seen in the morning or sunset it shines in such a special way it makes everything shine beautifuly.

I know I shouldn't get ahead of myself that we should focus on the foundation stuff first, yet wanted to add one more simple thing when looking at how Planks & Beams does things.

An optional set-up where we can create NPCs to then assign a portrait to them via a folder (how textures are assigned to PNB) that you can then see them wandering off in the window.... It's a small customization option that would personalize the whole thing to the user....

That's all.... I keep looking at the Assassin's Creed image above that its nudging me that route. But yeah, I"ll still be patiently waiting to see what happens with this. Take your time.

Wrong thread that that it's for another thread in the suggestions subforum.

What do you see other games doing that Rising World is doing & vice-versa? But a water block would be interesting......, or a properly implemented water system being more user friendly is key. Also, it seems Minecraft finally (after so many years) added oceans & sealife into the game. Might have to thank Microsoft for nudging Mojang along eh?

Seems like Minecraft shall add kelp into the water, swimming fish, puffer fish, breeding turtles, and such. Seeing these things I'm now curious how Rising World shall treat its sealife.

I'm now laughing while also wanting to add "I told you so!" on the part of that this benefits Rising World than it does for me. It's just a 'Two birds with one stone' suggestion.

Well, do let me know what you make out of this idea on both the original & spin-off ideas so I can check them out whenever they happen. I guess when we get Dummy NPCs we could somehow tie what yahwho mentioned with that with what Mino mentioned about stationary animation at a desk, or something.

Yup, that's why I mentioned a pop up window (GUI) originally. I went along with what you mentioned that it probably may be a thing for when Dummy NPCs are a thing so I guess we can double back on the whole GUI thing because that's more plausible than the animated way of things. I'd favour the Assassin's Creed manner because it appears to be the "cleanest" of the bunch; Straighforward. What Assassin's Creed has going is awesome that I'd lean more towards that for simplicity sake. That WoW window has me lost because I haven't experienced that yet.

Are you familiar with Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO where you could send your companions off on expeditions for them to return with relics and such? If "you" want to go that detailed then you're free to as well. You would basically select a situation/scenario for them to wander off on with them just wandering off to get relics, resources, and such.... I'm going to assume it's similar to how Assassin's Creed does it for simplicity sake. I however do wonder if we should play around with levels though that the higher their levels the more they can gain from their "expeditions"? Maybe that should come second after the foundation of the whole request.

What originally made me think of this would be the whole KanColle (Kantai Collection) side of things with Azur Lane expedition following off from that with randomized timers & rewards.

I simply love the idea of having closely tied NPCS you see in the same room as you disappear on adventures to then come back with various loots. It's a fun feeling. You start thinking "where is she or he" been?" T he whole leveling them up, giving them accessories, and such so they can handle such expeditions. SW:TOR gave the most unique feeling because it was in space that you could partially "feel" them on other planets and such where I was standing inside a Sith spaceship..... With the way I see Rising World growing I could see them being both present with you + seeing them wandering off to wherever they go in their GUI world, Assassin's Creed style. It be an interesting perspective to work with in Rising World's case with what we know, how it feels it'll evolve as a game, and such. I'm curious.

    ----------

    Edit;

I re-read the post that I agree that maybe we should have some portraits to choose from (insert our own) to then pay them food or ingots to then make them go on adventures to come back with whatever they found. I would probably fiddle the plugin a bit to place in a portrait of my custom characters to give that illusion that my own characters are in the game until Dummy NPCS & actual NPC Companions are a thing.

Awesome, that just makes me happier to hear because it's more for Rising World than it is for myself. It's still for me, yet more for Rising World & modding. If we do this it'll place a foundation for others to make use of (hopefully) that more can be done with this game. :D

If we were to add NPCs standing at a desk maybe we could have it be more of a hologram or model on a desk doing the action? Not sure how, yet something within the game could be a placeholder to show the NPC is out and about. Not expecting an actual NPC to be standing at the desk or moving in the terrain, thus the 'Ghost" & "phantom" comment. Great ideas on tools in their hands.

Well, whenever you do that be awesome. If someone else wants to help then they're welcome to as well for their take on this.

Hey guys, just wanted to know if anybody wanted to experiment with something that may or may not be complex. I guess we could even call this plugin a 'Foraging Plugin', if you'd like. It's experimental because we don't have NPCs yet. This is something I've been thinking seriously for a month or so that I'm actually curious to see how this shall develop in a Rising World light.

I was wondering if anybody could try making a test plugin where you could use something like a piece of paper on a bookshelving, or even a desk, to send NPCS (phantoms in this case) to go on various expeditions to gather resources and come back. You could somehow RMB/LMB on the desk to pop open an option screen to then select a set duration or manually set duration of these "ghost" NPCs to go "explore" for resources until they come back with a randomized set of goodies. Think dungeon chest type random, if you need to for example purposes.

    1) LMB/RMB with paper on a desk or bookshelving.
    2) Menu pops up with categories of what these "NPCS" should look for; Set times of 15 min, 30 min, 1 hr, up to 5 hrs real time
    3) Confirm category & time options to then see a timer ticking away somewhere
(Do your own thing during that time)
    4) Time elapsed to then be notified somehow (Chat?) to then click the desk again to then see what resources these "ghost NPCS" have found.
    5) Go back to 1, or exit out of menu.

Categories would be food, ores, Miscellaneous, Stone, Dirt, and such. The duration could go from 15 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hrs, and etc. Maybe even at 15 min intervals upwards, or even set manually with randomization adding more for longer periods, yet still randomized on the loot.

If someone could help make this then I thank you kindly. It's very important because it also may tie in with Dummy NPCs and actual NPCs later. If someone can help make this then you have my highest respect. If you need to be paid then something could be arranged after you created the plugin. I'm not going anywhere, thus "after" comment. I need to see results. :D
