A new update is now available, introducing seasons and more!
Latest hotfix: 0.8.0.2 (2024-12-30)

Sorry Red, just wanting to post something relevant to Rising World from Fallout 4 heh. This is in response to #2 & #7 above with NPC followers & traders.

The Dog: Fans of Fallout 3 will recognize the benefits of having a Dog companion, as the wasteland is a lonely place at times. Revealed in the teaser trailer, the optional dog can follow orders, collect items, and even fight enemies!

I underlined the important bits about how lonely these vast worlds can get without a companion. You're always on edge while fearing the eerieness and silence of the world. I was scared in Minecraft (same with my friends) that we had to buddy up when going in caves, or resort to digging in pure stone to get what we wanted. We spammed torches. I quit playing singleplayer and went into SMP because it was Chernobyl silence type spooky, and because more fun was to be had with other creative folks.

Red51 did say we're getting some sort of NPCs in singleplayer so that's awesome. I guess I should assume they're simple ambient types? Bonus points if actual companion type NPCs. Just wanting to point out how important they are in these sorts of games with how much they can add. Having an NPC in these sort of worlds helps greatly with morale & productivity. Having them collect loose items, fighting, and just being present is awesome in the long run, even if it's as simple as what Red wants to do (basic ai by simple movement & fighting). That's fine. Just escorting you around (Skyrim style) goes a long way. I'll expect mods to take over the more complex parts of the AI. Having to build a shelter for them would also boost creativity to those that know how to have fun. That at least should be possible in vanilla, building homes for them.

 I don't want to pressure Red, just showing him how important they are for these sort of games.

Might as well mention this while I have it on the mind. I know Red51 mentioned he wanted to use herbs/plants/pills for healing. I'm fine with that.

I want to suggest things like what Rimworld has, and I'm sure this is also what Red is brainstorming also. Things like hospital beds, defib, pills, hospital decorations (curtains, hospital beds & etc), + some more clinic style objects. Things like those 'observation beds', medical skeleton, and etc. Big part would be quaranteene plastic tents for those that are diseased. You could put both yourself and animals in there....even NPC followers in there with our without a hazmat type suit.

    • Hospital beds/Medical beds - Would heal you lightly. Things like sprained leg, health issues, and light diseases (if flu & colds are in). Would need soup & to lay down. People would consider it irritating, yet would be be curable in a day or night's time. Even passing a night, if nighttime.
    • Defibrillator - Someone who died in mutliplayer should be given 1 full minute in an attempt to be revived by this. The death screen should allow you the option to hang around for 1 minute until respawned. This should also be a weapon to be used against hostile NPCs when being raided, somehow. [Bonus points if it can be used to cut out window parts by putting plastic then using the defib to cut that exact section out (Grisaia anime inspired).]
    • Pills (from herbs) - Would each have their different effect to heal specific parts. This is being planned, and something I frown upon in real life, yet would find it worthwhile to simply deal with the diseases in the game. Teas & Soup should also have a strong effect in dealing with colds, fevers, and 'light' diseases.
    • Quarantine Tent (Multi oriented & NPC Followers) - If we're going to tend with environmental diseases then we should be able to construct 'quarantine tents' to keep from having spreadable diseases to contaminate others. Players should be able to erect a plastic tent from spreading further. How will one be entertained? Deal with it. While the other makes pills to cure this fellow the other should sit patiently. NPCs should auto-tent themselves in settlement & next to you the instant they're aware they've been inflicted, and if in their inventory.

Well, I'm at least expecting a medical bed & some medicine. I do hope that tea & soup are at least effective in warding off these specific diseases. As for things to deal with desert heat-stroke and such.....ice cream, ice, and anything cool. This one has me curious with me hoping this shall be 'fun' in that Rimworld medical manner, minus the limb-cutting.

I'm going to be building up a city so I'll be very sure to place clinics in smaller ones while adding more garden-styled hospitals in my city (or cities) for people to tend to their illnesses. I'll be sure to also add NPC Traders that speak to guide you to where you need to be cured

    Oh!

    - Flower placements is something we need, and something I'm hoping is indeed planned. Would make sense. I know displaying food on items is planned, just never came across flowers being displayed in pots.
    - ^
    - That's something to add during each update on how to deal with specific objects and such.
    - Red frowned upon stockpiling on food for long journies to force a more 'survival' aspect to things. If you stockpiled food then that would be considered cheating, similar to how Minecraft allows you to take hordes of it on long journies without venturing back to base. I actually approve of Red's logic here.
    - ^
    - This I can support (crafting half or max, or doing split-stack crating)
    - ^
    - Could have a little image with a timer. Just wait as long as needed, same with the BBQing?

Ya, I've been seeing Red51 posting that he wants to add water in a short time around biomes. Once biomes are added then water shall follow quickly behind that. Maybe within the update itself, if all goes smoothly, or just like the lights with the mining update.......Check his Steam posts and you'll get his meaning. I can't right now so someone has to dig for me XD

    Awesome news :)

Oh! Good thing I can still access this forum because hearing about this update is awesome. New lights!

That journal sounds awesome. Should be fun seeing how that evolves over time, even seeing the blueprint side of things with the buildings. Server admis shall be able to add custom pages to it? Things like posters, text, and etc? I do hope that's how books in general shall work because that would be something I want to take advantage of also. All these nice features

I voted "A combination of real world items and fun items (such as animal ears, makeup, & etc)"-

(Possible ramblings while explaining why I'm wanting this to be a major feature of 'fun'.)

    ---------

    - TL;DR:

I'm happy to hear that we'll be able to choose the gender of the characters, even preset options. That's fine. Even told by a buddy that we'll even be able to customize the hair. If true, that's awesome! I at least want to be able to customize my main NPC to wear anime-styled fuzzy fox ears (head/hat slot), a foxy tail at the bottom of the spine (belt slot), while having the option to have blue eyes. Having these 'fun items' would go a long way in bringing that fun. Basically the lady you see to the right in [this post] in the attached image being fairly important. This implying that I'm hoping the player & NPC Trader customization holds the same levels of customization.

I'm basically seeking to highly customize my character as myself for once while also wanting great level of customization for these NPC Traders that I'm hoping can be nudged into NPC followers with basic AI combat. Being able to customize your character on the level of Skyrim, The Sims, and the other games I'm used to would go a long way. I enjoyed seeing how my friends expressed themselves in these games, more so with the odd items the game would reward you with.

[Apologies for the long-winded post. Just making sure I put all my cards on the table before being ousted forcefully by real-world issues. :)]

From what I'm seeing in Rising World it works exactly like Minecraft by loading & unloading chunks in the area. In the settings you can tell it how many you want it to load so it'll load that much around you while unloading the chunks the further away you go. Each entity you give player priority to (to load chunks) shall stay loaded until you start gaining lag issues with the more people that connect. Whoever is hosting damn well better have the best computer around to make sure it all runs smoothly.

Ya, flat like Minecraft. You would keep going 'forever', just as long as your harddrive space would allow you to keep exploring.

Been thoughts of rounding the world for those that wanted a more 'wordly' experience by merging it in the ocean. Even having poles on either end to gradually become warmer, and similar. Just a thought.

People been having issues that they posted their problem on Steam, and I'm guessing on here also.

You find aluminium mostly around the surface, also in mountains. It does not spawn at lower elevations (the minimum elevation for aluminium is slightly below the "border" where the fog turns into darkness [I hope you know what I mean^^]). However, it's a rare ore though.

Hope those help. He's looking into making it easier to find.

I'm loving where this poll is going. So glad you folks are still voting. Keep it up! As of this posting: Trains (7) - Horses & camels (5) - Cars/vans/trucks (3).

    ------------

I can't wait to break in the trains to learn everything about them. Well, from what sagsave said we wont' have issues with ore being balanced to how much rails & etc would be in a given area. As long as they're eventually placed in pure stone sections of the underground then that be helping the yield all that much more. Ozzy (& sagsave) came up with the same amount I would in a chunk in Minecraft & Minecraft's FTB so I'm having faith in actually being able to branch out far enough with the average yield from mining.

As for the 'aircraft' vote, we can expect hang gliders at first - [these buggers] - so you can have fun. I missed that the first few times around, yet pleased it's in there. I did nudge for prop planes with it being considered, just not something high priority. I do however see airships being a thing if they travel slow while maximizing on storage space. When people say airship I imagine [these] ones, though they may mean [these] types; I prefer the steam-punk fantasy type.

Boats worries me because that's insanely vague, or not implied in any manner. Only ocean is worded. I'm curious about the trains & cars, yet worried about boats. Worried they'll stay canoes or something small.

    Keep voting!

That's something that could be looked into. Makes me wonder though.....

    ---------

Still do hope we can build ships on shore-lines & in drydocks to build them up piece-by-piece, similar to how Ark: Survival Evolved does its hut building. Basically to fill in ghost sections of the ship to see it being built up. If we can't then that be a real shame.

What I wanted to post about was the whole water physics with how one could 'drain a lake', if so desired. Imagine that, draining a lake to even flood caves & caverns. That's what Red said which had me thinking how you could use liquid storage tanks (even liquid carts for train transport) to make a man-made lake, to gradually drain lakes, or portions of an ocean to salvage sunken ships. Imagine patching up ships that have sunk by draining where the ship sunk to gradually repair & refloat it in a costly operation in a resource meaning. To make a vessel sea-worthy once again, then gradually righting it back onto its side to then make use of again. Maybe even possible ship-wrecks to claim as your own by making it sea-worthy that it could be towed & used as a museum piece back home, or something.

I'm imagining using a WW2 era destroyer on either Canadian, German, or Dutch (modded most likely; a scooner, sail boat, or similar works) to then create concrete walls that you would eventually break. Imagine having air tanks, scuba-gear, and etc to place & destroy blocks to control the water. You'll have more trouble in deeper water, yet should work Pearl Harbour style with their WW2 vessel type of thought.

I just can't help imagining WW2 vessels (Destroyers, and smaller) in this game, even ones you could mess around with by actually firing their deck guns, secondaries, and even sending torps off. Not the scale Red is seeking, just something I'm desiring in a mod while hoping the rest is in vanilla of being able to drain, repair, and refloat. Even using trains & etc to 'drain lakes' clean. Oceans would be trickier.

I hope it's both real & a fun concept. I've been burned too many times that I don't have faith in EA (USA or Canada). If we can indeed fly around on a whim by doing what we want (Star Wars Galaxies) then my faith shall be restored. If we can even build homes & etc then that be even better. I enjoyed building homes, taming native creatures, even mining ores.

Alright, ya...Had to delete the previous two to simply my post....

    1) I'd be happy with wherever the game spawns me. It can be desert, swamp, and etc.
    2) I keep having desert thoughts with WW2 jeep. Basically an Indiana Jones thought.
    3) Check this site out that was shared to me to get your RW daydreaming juices flowing. All those beautiful ripe scenery for RW to replicate. http://aktualne.atlas.sk/obraz…u/showbizz/vystavy/foto/1 - Enjoy!

There are several different biomes, including forests, deserts, rainforests and snowy landscapes. In addition, there are several transition biomes, such as steppes, tundras and savannahs, which form the links between the individual biomes.

Ozzy, this is what we both wanted to say. Not bad, and we were close.
    - Forest: So, basically a taiga without water.
    - desert: Nice on that, yet curious if one or many styles.
    - rainforest: A must, and something to look forward to. Imagine all those nasty bites you'd get.
    - snowy landscapes: Canada! How brutal shall it be? Hopefully snow accumulates.
    - Steppes: So basically central Canada & similar areas.
    - Tundra: Sweet! Canada & Europe's north. Looking forward to this to reenact Canadian & Alaskan survival films and such.
    - Savannahs: These would be sweet in RW manner. Minecraft was nice, yet this should be more awesome in this game. Could be ideal for my Arcticu City heh.
    - Also plans for a 'fantasy biome' that may or may not see light.

Alright! Now happy with my posts. Looking forward to the post-biome biome update to add what I'm seeing of Norway's gorgeous scenery & other places. Even on the mod side of things.

Well......I did post it twice (once on steam & once here) that we're going to be seeking to fly aircrafts in a survival manner sooner or later with our colonizations. I'm not expecting it, more so with the render distance and how it would hit the system hard. Just that Red51 shall be hearing more of it the deeper he shall be going into development so I'm just being a 'devil's advocate' type person with players siding against Minecraft to make this game stand out. I'm also itching for such when thinking of Rising World's future, especially with the distances you'll have to travel. With larger distances, the more people shall seek quicker methods of travel to get back to their area, especially in other types of roles it'll play.

I'm going to basically echo what I've seen others mention also that if Red is to add any aviation type, that it should be an airship (steampunk) type, or a propeller type. I'll list them below, just not the airship with it already suggested & considered.

    -----

    - Plane Type - Propeller:

[For those seeking to push Rising World, and fly, would want to see some sort of plane. I recommend the Twin-Otter over the three for it's multi-purpose abilities, more so in multiplayer. If we're going to have planes then I would highly recommend chosing prop planes, especially ones that has proven itself to be overly useful & should be more resource friendly on the computer when compared to jet aircraft. Not suggesting the Cessna because it's a dated piece of crap that never bothered to modernize itself. They should be slow, yet reliable while allowing the chunks to load below them.]

    - Twin-Otter - Three Variants: Land type being the most common & smaller of the three. The float (water) varient being larger to carry people, and may be configured to carry more cargo. There is also a snow-ski version that can be mixed between the two to make this plane be a heavy-use backbone aircraft for people's server. It's role can me viewed as a survival-explorer, cargo delivery, passenger transporting, and rescue plane. It has a very short take-off and landing radius that you can pretty much treat this plane similar to it's Grand Theft Auto 5 counterparts with a few feet needed. For the snow variant, I would just leave it to equipping the normal one with the snow skis to then take off with a tool at your area you made an 'airport' at which should it simplified in a way. The skis should lift to allow landing on warm land.

    - DHC-4 Caribou: Another STOL (Short take-off & landing) aircraft to recommend to the survivalist wanting to transport cargo & people around the map. This one could specialize in long-haul cargo flights for the map for the more busy servers. More of a land aircraft that any other 'Coast Guard' or 'rescue' purposes being limited.

    - DHC-5 Buffalo (CC-115): Same as the above two, just that it shares more ties with the Caribou. Unlike the Caribou, this plane can be configured with equipment to 'track' lost adventurers. Basically meant as a 'search & rescue' aircraft while also being a STOL aircraft. A back-bone to rescue, treat, & mend patience with accidents. That type of role can easily be carried over into servers for role-play fun.

-> Twin Otter & Buffalo videos under spoiler:

    ----------

    - Helicopter Type:

[I would assume that these helicopters would be far more resource friendly on the computer with their slower & more controllable abilities. The ability to hover, double-back, and etc. These could be used to transport much needed supplies to hard-to-reach locations, even ocean bases, that they would be quite a nice asset to players. Again, could be given that 'search & rescue' ability on servers to find & rescue players.]

    - NH90: A very modern German-European helicopter meant for a military role, yet could be put into civilian use. Suggesting this because it could be used as a heavy 'search & rescue' helicopter to also transport people around their heavily built settlements. Basically to ship supplies quickly, to rescue those lost, and to also assist with light construction. Anything when you become resourceful with your vehicles.

    - Bo 105: A more civilian manner for some general scouting and exploration. For those that choose to travel could use this mode of transportation to plan their builds without having to go into creative mode. Basically to also get into places that planes & other vehicles can't.

    - MBB/Kawasaki BKK 117: Same as the Bo 105, just another type to choose from when compared to the NH90 & Bo 105.

    --------

    - Map Rendering Issues & GPS:

    1) Render issue:
Being far too familiar with the type of lag & chunk loading I could see Red51 holding off on this for about 2 years or so. I have Pixelmon & Traincraft (mods for Minecraft) to both tell me that games like these have issues with flying and the way chunks load There's also a new recent game called Lego Worlds also with vehicles & mounts that is exploring this, just not yet where they should behave yet. I'm simply worried for Rising World with the amount of detailing it shall be going to, especially in heavily populated areas. You'll have to build airports or operate these planes outside of people-populated areas to make the most use of them, if on a lower PC. Pixelmon & Railcraft both suffered with this issue with chunks loading slow, same with the mounts & carts bouncing, jerking, and rubber-banding. Worried for planes in Rising World for this reason. I'm hoping in the long run that the planes shall outway the cons with them being able to supply cargo, transport people long distances, and even rescuing lost players occasionally.

    2) GPS:
The way I could see people not becoming lost is to basically insert a GPS within the cockpit by tagging their 'home' location. Would also help if the cockpits were 3D (FSX) while behaving in a more arcade manner in controls. I don't expect flight sim, just enough to fly & land. For the rendering & navigation I would highly recommend having your planes be equipped with GPS, even if you have to insert it as an after-plane built object. Having to personally insert it to navigate around the terrain to read your personal GPS device. Here, you can 'hard-set' your home airport to then choose where you want to travel on the map (think Skyrim & GTA 5 here) with you then being able to have some form of guidance. The 'hard-set' the other hot-points, you would have to add & lock them in through an option similar to how you hide bodies, but in the GPS. This option would be most useful, more so, when weather is added & when you're flying blind without chunks.

I guess one could also recommend flying high to make sure one does not hit the terrain below, and to become familiar. This is where the GPS becomes useful to also guide you with a 'straight to the point' GPS. Just a line you'll try to keep on to make sure you reach your Skyrim + GTA 5 straight line. It doesn't have to know if there is an unexplored chunk, just be able to guide you in a line from Point A to point B. That, and setting 'markers' to make note of where you may have built your airport.

(For those with low-end PCs should stick to trains. Let's have some competition that way by making both land & air vehicles useful!)

    -------------

Again, not fully expecting these planes. Same with those exact types. Would be nice if they were those makes, just that I'd expect some 'originality' that is aimed at slipping past copyrights & licenses & all that mess. If they're added then these planes may make digital Rising World life easier when traveling distances & to reach spots one would have issues reaching. Imagine the speed of colonization when people play pure survival. I'm basically imagining wild bush-life while being able to ship a good amount of cargo at the same time. Rising World is also to blame for having this kind of potential, and same for Pixelmon, and now Lego Worlds for spoiling the crap out of me for something vanilla MC failed to explore. This should be good because it should push Rising World also. What I'm viewing would benefit this game in the long run with less people seeking cheaty teleports.

I'm also 100% certain that people shall be pushing for this to make Rising World overly superior to others.

While stumbling through YouTube I came across some news videos of EA Canada working on an 'open world' Star Wars game. If so, this should be awesome if they make it as free as the Star Wars Galaxies MMO, just in a more modern manner and take. Star Wars: Empire at War, just in a more vast & fun RPG manner of things. If it's a 'theme park crap' (*cough*SWTOR*cough* then I'm losing more and more respect for the North American gaming studios. The wording has been also clear that this is a project next to the next-gen Battlefront game.

EA Canada is making an open world Star Wars game while being a mystery project of its own......

Please! For the love of god, would you stupid Canadian & American gaming companies please heavily inspire from Star Wars Galaxies & KOTOR by making this 'open world' ACTUALLY OPEN! The fun in the whole thing is exploring on your own while taking up randomly generated missions and such while not being in a damn linear gameplay. That's what made SWG fun. Learn this already! Europeans & Japanese are trying to do this also, yet we North Americans are stuck in a linear pile of crap! Look at Star Wars Galaxies with the Jump to Lightspeed expansion! Merge, modernize, and make it a proper free-roam game! These North American gaming studios constantly making the same mistakes with me & other gamers constantly getting burned >_<

Hoping with Rising World maturing enough that we can try and consider adding in Star Wars vehicles & such to pick up where EA Canada might fail. My confidence in them (EA & EA Canada) right now is at a low point right now....I'd say 20% confidence. I'd be happy with an AT-AT or an AT-ST in Rising World at the least.....

[Note: Sorry, no sources because it's being kept as a mystery game by EA Canada.....I can't find anything relevant. Sorry for being late to the party also.]

Now curious if & how I would build the Lego Worlds version. I guess in a more "deformed" and "fun" manner. Less functional than both Minecraft & Rising World versions with more experimentation. More loose & fun hmm.

Wanted to share some nice found images on the screen folder that shows great potential for this game. Even a nice quote from the developer who supports the idea of some 'survival' & possibly 'adventure' mode. Neat stuff

Having high hopes for both these European developers (RW trio included). Please show Europeans can make games far more entertaining than the North American ones that enjoy burning you at every turn

The older you get, and the more time you managed to allocate, the more you want out of your games. This is being more true after playing games that secured a strong foothold for others to climb higher, and in greater detail. Rising World placed itself on a high level that I can't help but expect being snowed in now thanks to the feature page, and because Minecraft never included that. It did lightly, just not fully. Modding did it, just that I never gotten around to toying with it.

It's just more fun when you're being pressured and battered to come out victorious on the other end of all what others consider to be "tedious". Eustress! I happily did my resource pilgrimages into new settlement, even surviving mobs that others had to put on peaceful. Bring on the challenge of surviving in the desert & snow! When going into peaceful mode things felt awkward. I guess myself and Ozzy shall find ourselves fighting the snowy digital elements with us digging out of the snow, if that ever becomes a feature :D

Damn straight it's exciting! I do apologies for the spam postings but you can have your silence on Monday onward haha! I can't wait to see & hear the new awesome features. The "thrill of the hunt" or something like that.

[Note: I'm not trying to berate people. Just simply saying that you'll feel more awesome when you steam through what you consider to be 'tedious'. You'll learn ways to become 'better' at it. The fun is in the challenge.]
