I also think Biomes, roads , Vehicles ,ore, mining ,electricity, should be developed first. The world should come first, followed by the pound something or someone to pieces bit. I am not into that part of it. I cant wait to see the configuration screen when its done. (please enable or disable the following features in your game ) We really can then play it the way we want to. I really want to see the biomes, I am sure the world will be less then 99% grass when the biomes an water go in. Its probably easier to code the world first. Animals require more logic and texturing. Since the development team here is small, It is going to take a long time any way you look at it.

I guess most of you are aware by now that I don't care for the violence myself but I understand there are those that want it. Eventually it will all come together . If I were writing this I would develop the features that take the shortest time first. Since rising world starts as a blank canvas when you start. The world appearance and biomes should come first . I like the cows and goats etc, but I am not partial to having something come up and eat me while I am trying to build. That is why I use the creative mode and the command prompt a lot.

This game will turn out a lot better then most. It is well on its way :)

HI, It works great :) However there is a small issue the author needs to fix.

The locations database should be stored in the current world directory , otherwise if you change worlds, you wont go where you think you will go . :)

Not one single game out there that I have seen has Geysers , hotsprings ,thermal areas. This could be a first for rising world . It could be added as a biome that occurs only 1 or 2 places in every world to make it rare.

Problem int the endless part of the world but the height limit in this world! As i discovered will building my humongous Cheops pyramid witch was planed to be 460 block wide
x at 296 blocks high..... Major fail and upset when i discovered that my pyramid would not have a top since i could only build at around 200 block high & after that the blocks
are invisible to the eyes... ;-(

This could probably be fixed by making the world less deep and allow the person to build higher .

Are we going to have to rebuild everything when we get water and Biomes ? I have been holding off build anything complicated because I know eventually we will probably have to start over as major changes come . Do any of the Developers have any Idea when or if we will have to redo anything / everything ? I am sure once water gets added you would have to restart as your valley you built in may be at the bottom of the ocean or a lake.

This is the way voxels work as they are squares (or deformed squares ) you will need special blocks with curved textures to make a curved roads or sidewalks. That is just how it works . All the engine sees is a square with a texture on it .

Primaservers do have English support and their website is also in English. If you scroll down you can choose if you want Danish or English. :) I would join their test server to see what Ping I may have and then decide from there.
The traffic which it is producing is depending on the tasks... So you cant really tell how much, but if you are concerned about Bandwidth Limitations you should be good with a upload of around 10 mb/s so 100 MBit/s. Also a traffic limit of above 100 GB per month should be more than ok.

I tried their test server , it did not work. I have found a couple of $5 USD per month ones (2048 mb Linux ram and 10 Gb storage ) I will keep my eyes open. I am going to wait until development gets a bit further along (another 3 months or so ) and see how it goes .
    Thanks for the info :)

Any 10$ VPS should be ok with around 1 GB guaranteed(not flexible) memory just be careful that you have full root access to the VPS.
http://www.ovh.com/us/vps/vps-classic.xml is one of the most cheapest with DDoS protection. They start at 2,99$ monthly, I think that should suit your set up :)

ATTENTION: This server uses linux as the operating system so you need to know how to use linux shell.

However if you are not familiar with linux systems then you can choose one of our official hosting services which the cheapest starts at 7 € / month: https://primaservers.com/risingworld

Lucien, thanks for the info but that site (primaservers) is not in English . I live in the USA . I am sure somewhere there is a place . Also how much traffic is the server generating. How much bandwidth per hour per user does a server produce ?

Do you want to host a game for just some friends or do you want to have a server for more users?

I can not host the game on my pc because I want to run it 24/7. As far as number of users go that would depend on the cost to do so. I am sure several of the people hosting servers could give us insight on the costs of hosting a server for a few (1- 36 people ) at best. Any insight would be appreciated

    Hi,
Are there any services out there (free vps or low cost vps) services that will let you upload the server and run it at low cost . I am not sure what the bandwidth requirements are for running a server . I would like to see a guide posted, suggesting free or low cost providers capable of running a rising world server. Also what extra files have to be uploaded for the server to run on either linux or windows.

    Dotdot,
Rising world is being designed for people on all levels. It is a game for those that want to be creative (creative mode) it also has adventure and survival modes for those that want it their way. Hack and slash games thrive in the PC world (7 days to die , Life is feudal, and many others. The developers here are trying to make this a "play it your way game". You can actually switch the creative mode off and on in the command mode. There is a bug in the game that still causes you to fall through the world. I had it happen a time or 2 while digging a very long tunnel.

Last night I planted 10 or so tomato plants. When I quit the game they were green, When I started the game this morning everything was gone.
I had played yesterday several different times, quitting and restarting and they were still there . They were not in my inventory either.

The plants were planted on soil made with the hoe.

Very Nice review and I agree with most of what you say. I am not one that cares for games like 7 days to die and Life is feudal. Both of those games , like rising world are voxel based sandboxes. I think there are just too many hack and slash games out there .

The environment of this game is nice but the world itself is going to need work as far as appearance goes. We need different kinds of areas (biomes ) for example snow on the high mountains and on the ground. Various colors of leaves (perhaps seasons)

A weather System (Varying clouds, rain snow, thunder, storms)

Since every world is generated differently there could be Different kinds of suns/ moons in the game. Some worlds could have multiple moons visible in the day and night (just like on earth) How about red and blue suns as well as yellow.

I would like to see these environments worked on , sooner, then later .
As far as all of these vicious animals go, I have no issue as long as the user can turn off the attacks or not have them appear at all. Too many games are already based on hack and slash. With the proper settings you can run the game any way you want :)

Last but not least, a monetary and trading system for servers. You could mine and farm for in game money.

Also random NPC trading villages located throughout the world as you explore. these could also be switched off and on by the user. (I know these have been discussed) As well as 3d characters. I Know you are working on that , there are lots of free premade 3d characters on the internet we could import. (It would save you a load of work )

I think Red 51 has done an excellent job so far. I look foreword to seeing more in the future. So far I have spent over 80 hours in game and for the most part have enjoyed it . Keep up the good work red 51 :)

Providing that the right type of textures are added, you can make it look any you want , from ultra futuristic to stone age. And with the ability to switch off or on various aspects of the game (like hunger , PVP , attacking) the Game would be what you make of it. The only thing that has come close is the game Second Life (I have been there since 2003 ), That game however lacks the ability for you to dig and destroy the land. You could only affect the height map and the cost to "own" your land in sl is still expensive. It also has serious physics flaws and other issues.

The 1 thing that needs work so far is the landscape appearance. The trees and Grass look great but the color palette is limited. I am sure all that is needed to fix that pare is some new texture artwork. I am sure that given enough time, this will work out. It is still early and I am guessing it will take a long time to get Rising world to where they want it. Since voxels are basically a cube, during curved walkways now is impossible, however when the right kind of textures are added, it becomes a no brainer.
