I notice a new set of files in the world parts folder ( they have the .bp and WP extention.) I also noticed them if you visit a multiplayer server.
Can they be removed form a single player world ? what are they used for ?

I took the time to visit a few multi player servers. Most of them of them are just fine.
However I do not build on multiplayer and here is why.
I have total control of my own world in single player in creative mode. I do not desire to spend forever looking for stuff just to build.
In other words I am a creative mode person I Have no interest in bashing monsters.
If you choose to build on a server , it could be here today and gone tomorrow. If you want to build a house, I would suggest that do it on your own world and make a blueprint and then move it to a server .
If you join a server , it is highly unlikely that you will be able to use the creative mode. Most server admins do not allow full creative mode and I totally understand why. It is called griefers. Some server admins just like to play god . That is ok. It is their server and not yours, They pay the bills. If you go to a server you have no rights at all except what the admin chooses to give you.
Even Rising world has griefers . If you see me on a server , rest assured I am there for 1 reason and 1 reason only and that is to be a tourist. I already have3 of my my own private world to rule in, I have no interest in ruling on someone else's world.
ALL data is temporary. Not even all of the biomes are done yet. We should understand that many servers are eventually going to get wiped for 1 reason or another.
Rising world is constantly evolving and some changes will likely require a wipe. We know Red tries to convert old data when he can, I can assure you there will come a time when everyone is going to have to start over. It comes with the territory of early access. The water addition is a perfect example, The whole world changed overnight. Now almost everyone wants a waterfront home.
Just keep all this in mind. Especially one day if you look for your favorite server and it is gone for whatever reason. If you do choose to play Rising world on a server I wish you well and the best of times. As for me , I am a tourist , not a resident of multiplayer .
Not all of us have the time to devote to forage for everything. Some people just want to build, they to not want to bash animals, nor do they want to be forced to walk around with a torch at night. I Notice almost all of the servers disables the "L" key. But that is what I like about this game. You can play it Your way.
I do enjoy viewing all of the servers out there , Some servers last a week , others only a few hours. And some have been there since the start. If you see me on your server, I am just there to visit. I have 3 worlds of my own to take care of, I am a tinkerer (The poor database) LOL. I am there to say hi and to visit. I have enough stuff to keep me busy in my own worlds. That way if I screw something up only I have to deal with it
Have fun
The ocean biomes are always surrounded by beach. Lakes on the other hand only spawn in grass biomes, as you can see on the screenshots above.
Ok that is where I was getting confused. Sandy Beaches are indications of oceans and the "Lakes: Are surrounded by Rocks and grass. I saw A couple of Islands around the lakes ones . Simple enough to make an ocean Island using the terrain tools.
Red,
I see plenty of bodies of water. But they appear to be oceans. Those are working fine. However once you fly over the forests, or mountains , the water turns into little Pools in the middle of forests, They look more like back yard fish ponds. If we look at real world samples we normally see rivers that snake through the mountain valleys. Am I mistaking you oceans for large lakes ?
After the Water update and the hot fix. There were some improvements.
My old worlds now work fine
Now about the water. After the hotfix I noticed a few things.
1. There are no Inland bodies of water Lager then a child's wading pool or a small hot tub.
2. The Sandy beaches seem to have disappeared too.
3. There need to be large lakes inland. I Saw a few inland lakes on Steam screenshots this morning but I believe they were all terrain edited.
I have created quite a few new worlds and still see no inland lakes of any large consequence. I Have seen the ocean and some nice inlets but no inland lakes of any larger size.
I do not believe red spent 6 months on this update and did not have this program automatically generate any large inland lakes . It must be some kind of bug.
If anyone has any seeds showing larger inland lakes, please share them.
If you have created a previous world and explored it a lot . You will have to add your own water. After the hotfix , old worlds are fine,
The water looks good. It does look kind of funky if you terrain edit it and set it on top of the ground. You have to dig down a bit before placing the water or you get a mess.
I am sure theses issues will get sorted out.
Keep looking they will be there somewhere oO took me like 30min to find the ocean
Oh I found the ocean, Just not the larger inland lakes. Just tiny little round ponds.
The issue with old worlds will be fixed shortly. The best way is to not touch old worlds until this problem is sorted out (otherwise the "fixed" parts will stay permanently), I'd recommend to create a new world in the meantime
I backed everything up. I'm having a few weird issues but since I mess with the database in the old world so much its probably my fault anyway
Other then Small little ponds , I have not found any lakes in the world at all. I Saw some pictures of larger lakes but I have yet to see the game generate anything more then what I would say is a small rock fishing pond.
Actually I'm happy that they dont look like Astral Terra. If you ask me, I dont like the look of Astral Terra. This stupid "lets put together some buyed Unity Assets" in Rising World they at least make it theirself instead of just buying some premade stuff.
Actually , A lot of games purchase assets. I would not be surprised if rising world uses a few third party assets also. 1 person simply cant be a graphics artist , sound engineer all at the same time. This is quite common.
I`ll just say that I still remember biomes update delay.... Happy Waiting for us all!
Actually the biomes update was not exactly what I had expected . I was expecting it to look more like Astral Terra does now. Anyhow every game is unique and every game has its own look. Rising world does not look bad at all but it does look kind of vanilla compared to others I have seen recently. I still like it over all. Rising world is going to still be a great game. I hope when they do electric power and stuff that it works kind of like it does in starsone,
Steam spy is just a rough estimate. It might not be spot on but it is in the ballpark. It just gives you a rough estimate of how many copies are actually sold.
This web site will show you how many people purchased the game via steam.
Here's a good one I just stumbled upon.
The visuals on this is how I envision Rising World when the game is completed. It looks like there is a download available on the website so I'm going to test it out shortly. It doesnt look like its available on Steam.
Here is their website.
Every programmer understand this :
... testing games is a tedious task
Having been a programmer for 35 years , I can tell you , It can be tedious or it can be fun depending on what you are doing. Some of my best fun was writing tiny assembler programs on the 6809 based color computer made by radio shack in the early 80's. I wrote a speech playback program is less then 100 Bytes of code in 6809 assembler. Now that was fun:)
Writing a 2 player Version of Family Feud on the Same machine in Basic was tedious. Now a days you would be sued for releasing something like that LOL
I think designing the graphics and the 3d models is a lot worse then writing the code that controls them.
I just played the demo of that game and I honestly think it's as aweful as I heard. The graphics look even worse on "Ultra" than the Minecraft standard version and the UI is so confusing. I know I should give it more time to test but I just can't
I am not sure but I think the demo is a really old version.
I came across another one this morning called StaudSoft's Synthetic World. The game reminds me of the mechanics of Blockscape is is about as far along in development in game mechanics but the graphics are very basic. It has water, NPCs and lots of biomes. I'm a sucker for Rising World because of the polished appearance. Other content will follow. But I'll keep my eye on this one. It's been on Steam for about as long as Rising World has been. Ofcourse, every time a new update hits on RW, I get sucked right back in!
I just got a reply from the author of Synthetic world game , In a few ways , it is getting ahead of RW in player models, 3rd person and the animals are looking a bit better. Once again , Synthetic World is also written by a single author or 2 and Just like RW it has a fairly slow release cycle. Is Synthetic World better then RW? no, it is just different. It is a lot more cpu intensive but it is coming along. Every one of these games has its own style.
I personally think the best looking world of the bunch is Astral terra as far as the world itself looks , Astral terra lacks decent editing tools and lacks a peaceful mode it is also not very popular.
Starsone is a new game written in unity, It lacks a creative or peaceful mode. Other parts of this game are FANTASTIC. However the world is small, Also like RW it is written by a single author. Because it is written in unity, Its Graphics performance leaves a lot to be desired unless you have a VERY HIGH end graphics card. Starsone Author seems to refuse to ad a creative or peaceful mode and the ratings are going to show that.
Blockscape is pretty much a dead horse and I never bought it. I have a few on my steam wish list but I just have to wait and see . the only reason I picked up starsone was because it was cheap Ever few weeks another one of these types of games show up. What the future holds remains to be seen.
A far as release cycles go, It will probably be months if not years before any of these games are completed and some of them will never make it out of early access. Only the future will tell.
It has actually been 4 months since the last major update of any consequence. The last one being the biomes released last Christmas. With only 1 person doing most of the coding, it is going to take a very long time before the goals are reached . You will find that a lot of the early access games on Steam are only written by one or 2 people . Blockscape, stars one , synthetic world , and kingdoms to name a few. I do not know why water is taking so long but that is the way it is going to be. We just have to wait and see what happens. Unless red gets help, there will be a very long wait for a lot of the stuff that is mentioned in the roadmap. One person can only do so much. We are all going to just have to wait patiently.
Hi Trillnar,
I just purchased StarOne and besides from some annoyingly repetitive music, it looks like it's well developed for Early Access... Not that I'm going to abandon Rising World anytime soon.. HELL NO!! Rising World features a world that can be completely deconstructed. It looks like the terrain is fixed in StarsOne.
I picked it up too. The price was right . Starsone is written with unity. We will just have to see.
Another Game enters the arena on steam,
StarsOne looks very similar to Rw and a few others. I will have to keep my eyes on it too
Blockscape was a very serious competitor but the developer messed it, the realistic look was it strength, but now the blocky style is just like Minecraft. Plus there was a big pause in development (more than 1 year no updates).
I dont like the graphic in Atral Terra, looks too fantasy like. Staudsoft Shitty World is so ugly and the developer is childish.
SpaceEngineer is a great game but it is something different than Rising World.
I do not own Blockscape, It looks like the developer tried to make a comeback, then quit with the fast updates again. I do think Astral Terra's world (Especially in the latest release ) Looks better then RW, However its building an lack of creative mode leave a lot to be desired . Alchemist's Awakening looks cool but I did not buy it either. And Although I own synthetic world, Its not there and I don't think it will ever be. Empyrion and Metaverse are coming along but also have shortfalls
