Its an artefact from the demo version in December.
I think you have to switch in the console file the debug console from on to off

In unity there's no jozrnal yet, only in java version.
In unity you need to go to a work bench to get your building elements

To disable the debug console, open the config.properties file (in the "_New Version" folder in the game directory) with a text editor and set Game_DebugConsole to false (so it looks like this: Game_DebugConsole=False).
About the journal, as Avanar mentioned, unfortunately it's not available yet in the new version. In general, the new version is still very limited. To get building elements, you can use the workbench (which is located in the spawn area), alternatively you can get a new workbench by typing "item workbench" into console
