I think und major point is that with an own forum you have it all in your hands and control. Not in steam though.
Also don't forget that red is selling the game also outside of steam and some prefer that because they don't want to use steam.

Yes, I just read that in order to download content such as blueprints on Steam, you unfortunately need to have an account and the game (on Steam). It's invaluable here in the forum that you can simply download blueprints and other content without having to register.
It's a shame, because otherwise you could just transfer the traffic here over there. And still sell the game as a standalone via the website. It's not sold via the forum, but via the main page.
if there is no forum, there is no reason to visit the main page.
I also hope Red will be able at some point to create and sell some merch for Rising World. Its not a problem to produce "on demand". Thsirts, Cups, iconic tools from the game, etc. With a 3D printer people could send their blueprints and Red can print them.
But i think his life time is spent on finally finishing the game 
In my opinion steam forums are not that good, i cant get warm with the structure. Its not responsible, in my case there is so much space left and right
