A new update is now available, introducing seasons and more!
Latest hotfix: 0.8.0.2 (2024-12-30)

Oh, excellent stuff. Fences of any kind in that, or that coming later? And this is nice to hear that farming is in there because I'll be having loads of fun with that. I wonder if this'll make room or tomato juice to also quench thirst. Can't wait to see the hostile animals roaming wild. Should change up the experiences now, even in Let's Plays heh.

Happy Birthday, Meltron. Celebrating with farming on your end, eh?

Apologies for the double-posting....I just wanted to sneak in an image through the attachments to ask if we could also have "neon" lights, if there isn't any yet. I remember my trip in Europe back in 2008 there was this neon-lit grocer that I spotted in the early hours at 4-6 am when heading back to Bratislava from Croatia on a bus, thus the horrid blurriness. Even saw very faint and softly lit blue-neon lit lights also. Having lights and neon-lights as pillars & signage would be neat, or so I found. Too bad the image is blurry. I don't even know where this neon-lit mini-grocer is when heading from Croatia -> Yugoslavia -> Slovakia (Bratislava side).

I'm also posting this here because it has a large German following that may also - A) use this as inspiration in their builds B) Find this interesting because they love building their German styled builds C) Maybe even ID this damn mini-grocer with fancy lights in western Europe. I guess if you know where this is you can PM me if it's many months down the line or so with this post being that dated.

Hmm.....A witch being as rare as the ones in Minecraft, or those Phantoms at night in Dragon's Dogma, is the way to do it. One per world would be brutal. Maybe something like 1 every 10,000 KMs or something along those lines in whatever direction.

I approve of being able to be knocked out, but only with you able to fight back. Defeated by a witch should force you to be her familiar to work your way out of it through debt, or to fly/run far enough to revert by using a medicine. I'd be happy with this feature actually, reminding me of Skyrim in the process with the mod types. Also, sleeping near a witch hut (willingly, or unwillingly) should have a 20% chance of being 'captured' then turned into her familiar of whatever animal she chooses you to be with semi-supernatural abilities.

Also, sorry for the anime reference but my mind has been 'corrupted' by the deep-thinking Anime show of the seasons - "Maria The Virgin Witch" - that has me seeing Witches in a different light. I wonder what way these witches should go because the generic pointy "Wizard of Oz" types would irritate me now seeking more 'darker' German, even Anime, styled witches on a neutral-evil level.

If there is a 'tribal' Age in this game then I can see this being a thing. What would be better would be cutting off the heads of animals and mobs to make a trophy room in your main-base, or a "showcase" room. Even a museum. Doing it the Imperial British way of stereotypical hunters would be the way to do it, but with EVERY single animal, creature, and mob in the game.

I can actually see 'organic' blocks being a thing in RW, and not just as blocks. Drop mushrooms, meat, and anything should move around a little bit, more so when raw. Dropping squids and octopus should be more slippery, as would anything that you'd find squishy and such. Clouds I'd keep away from as that would simply turn into a small portion of water. Maybe 2% water in a cup when building skyscrapers.

This should be a fun little thought and experiment for Red. As for building material, should keep to bones and anything we would use to build as building material. Should stray as much from Minecraft as possible in a proper manner.

I know Vortac wanted to use this for his builds. I do know that I need them, as would others. I do hope Red chooses the types of hedges and detailed shrubs one would find in Europe. Would be a nice start there. But ya, this seems to be implied that it's somewhat high on the list that we'll see it. I need it so I can 'hide' the texture contrast collisions. Get that green thumb of yours ready

The post about Red adding more block types might be it. I would still vote for decorative statue blocks and the like. Things like more corner blocks 'might' be planned for the next update Red has going so going to loosely word this.

I recommended we should be able to make customized statues because statue types stand to bland out fairly quickly in these types of game. We should be able to basically copy our appearance onto the statue with it logging it like posters. Not sure how Red can do it as I can't program for the life of me, though I can suggest it for the longevity of the game for deeper customization options. He showed interest and I hope he adds at least this in the end for the people, not just me.

Decorative cylinder blocks would be nice, as with any other shapes, bits, and pieces. I have faith in Red on this, more so after reading the message about adding more block types after the food & before the farming update (for future reading) I'm fairly confident that Red shall deliver.

If this game did have magic then I'd love it if it was kept to "Harry Potter" level of things. I would also recommend that if people do want magic that there should be a secondary realm - Read as Parallel universe - mirroring that of what the main world is in a semi-loose manner with all the magic and supernatural entities one would want. I wouldn't mind having control of magic, if it took skill on the first 'inFamous' game manner being more of a 'rare' skill to have. A 'last resort' type of use. I guess this could be a good way to connect with 'realistic' European witches that aren't generic, nor overly gothic in design....A nice middle ground that I see Germans design in that "Poser" program.

I would much rather someone mod this in by gaining inspiration from Minecraft's Thaumcraft to carry over to this game with updated and modernized features.

You have my vote on this. More options for more poster-positioning variety is something I can vote for. Various 'snowflake' patterns also, or whatever you can think of that Instagram uses, you see in museums, and various other variations in posting up posters. Once again, I'd love the option of going all-out with the posters that more options the better.

Well, there's this - Rising World | Predator Survey | VOTE HERE

But ya, I agree that Red will have to get quite crafty with his monsters because they can easily make-or-break the game. Werewolves I wouldn't mind, same with abominable snowmen type mobs. Zombies we pushed into the distance, as with anything overused. I guess you're thinking along Thaumcraft's Taint (an Minecraft FTB mod with magic) with taint, whisps, and similar.

Rare phantoms would be appropriate, same with living snowballs with glowing colourful eyes, and tropical sand zombies. Those would be interesting, if at least as a mod monster. Birds that harass players by dropping stuff on them would be interesting also, or some entity needing to be pleased by ritual sacrifices by simply giving them food.

I always feel that me and Geneo would fight because he always goes around thumbing things down. Point taken though because he does make great points.

I'm now lost in how to view the game, yet I trust Red with the game and his own game plans. Right now Rising World is in such a great shape that I'm not all that worried. I know Rising World isn't Skyrim, Civilization, or any other game, I however needed something to compare it to for examples so we would be on the same page. I don't know what else to compare it to for other people to see the same thoughts as mine.

With what Red said on Steam he said we would be going up in tech so I assumed (which might have been stupid on my part) that we would go from 'caveman' type tech to modern, even if it was gimmicky. I'm fine with it being Medieval & modern only also with how you have to survive in a hostile world. I guess I'm just assuming too much which is my stupid part. Minecraft 2 isn't what I'm seeking, only a game that is free with what it actually wants. I consider Rising World its own game. I guess I see it more as a "Second Life" type game, yet more grounded in survival from both physical and environmental stuff now.

Hmm...So there will only be two tech ages then? No "Rise of Nations" or "Civilization" with how you need to tech up from roughly caveman to modern era through items in this game. I guess it's the choices of words when replying to Babas with me simply needing to sit back to see what actually gets implemented, or I guess I should view it as such with only two periods. I guess I can be fine with only 2 or more "Ages".

From what I'm hearing this game sure has quite an atmosphere now with what's planned. A mix of survival, teching up, with touches of environmental diseases. I approve of what I heard and saw Red mention, even what's on the roadmap. What's mentioned being Skyrim + Minecraft + Rimworld (minus the table research, unless that's in). Having survival, adventure, and creative also being a wise choice.

Hmm......I bet there'll still be confusion.
(Edit: Guess I should just sit back and let what needs to be implemented to be. Being confused doesn't help and only causes panic on all sides. Of course I should keep my assumptions to myself as to not have bubbles popped.)

Great idea. I add my vote on this, but only if we stay away from heavy bombs and nukes. I'm fine with TNT sticks, sticky bombs, and the like. I also imagine they would have to be toggle-able in the server menu for bigger servers to not have them abused by grieers.

Some more builds to make note of that are getting close to what I want to make. I once again have to give note to Xloff, the French Canadian expert builder on here. Not sure how much I can praise him/her, just that those are awesome expertly build structures by a fellow Canadian.

    ----------

The future looks bright for Rising World. I want to praise Red & the skilled builders in the community for pushing Rising World up high. How I can't wait to play this damn it haha. I'm glad nobody touched on the Anime stuff yet because that is part of my territory. Maybe one person did, though was more of a subtle display in poster form. Would however be nice to see someone other than myself upping more Anime type builds though, things not Dragonball Z or mainstream though. More Death Parade style heh.

@Meltron I agree that it could get cluttered. Guess I'll keep posting here until I get my own copy instead hoping to see what other people plan to build. A mix of what we want to build and what I find interesting from other people's builds until I get my own copy & new comp. I'm overly impressed.

I hope posters are unlimited in SP, somewhat the same in multiplayer also with others able to see what you upped. I'm planning to go all out on the posters for my own museums and art gallery type builds. Even hoping to make use of the NPC Traders, even customizing them at the very least if I can't comrade them up. Posters being higher priority on my list. I want to see more complex builds with what I built, even if they'll get wiped out with updates. Fun to look at.

(This seems like an appropriate thread for what's about to be done. Didn't want to spam-create a new thread when we already had an appropriate thread.)

The mention of diseases and hypothermia now scares me. Not in the "5 Nights at Freddy's" manner, just that I'm now thinking Skyrim here. I guess it'll all be environmental type diseases, just that the thought of your characters (and possibly NPC types) contracting them now has me fearing how detailed things shall be. It was a nice kick in the rear with how it just set the tone for the game in that "Stranded Deep" type detailed of a brutal survival. Imagine yourself teching up, unable to treat your illness, or being unable to tend to your hypothermia, thirst, or vitamin C issues (if it goes as far as the vitamin C bit European explorers faced when first colonizing North America) and etc. It sure does set the tone of things. Both this (diseases & hypothermia) with that first hostile monster setting the game's tone. Anything else now being a nice colour of painting adding onto the whole.

Good example being stuck in the ocean, swimming, and in winter biomes shall freeze your character. Or when you don't cook fish you risk a slow death through worms attacking your character's brain (5 hp loss per minute, or so) cured through medicines or something. Maybe that's more detailed than the trio are planning, just that it now has me 'brainstorming' of the possibilities.

Once again, I'm thinking Skyrim, and now Rimworld once again, with how you're catching these diseases. Also that Frostfall Mod for Skyrim, or whatever it was called. I wonder if Rimworld is more appropriate here though.

Holy hell.......I need to praise Red and the two others for having insane amounts of patience and sanity. Would have given up already if I was programming, if I even could, with the amount of crap you have to deal with from people being lower in the social ladder. Having to deal with my constant pushing for Rimworld type AI partners (from me), having to deal with trolls and drama-queens on Steam (reviewers + this topic's topic), and now seeing other people getting all offensive saying Red is doing things wrong instead of the laptop the person is using. Wow........People should praise Red & his two buddies more for the amount of patience and crap they have to go through.

It's the same, or similar, amount of crap I'm noticing people blaming the bus drivers in Ottawa, Canada (OC Transpo) when it comes to 'poor service' when it is instead the city's fault for all the spitting and hostilities. Bus drivers are there to earn pay, yet the city wants a red carpet treatment, as does the people on Steam.

Maybe posting the link is inappropriate, we'll see. Still trying to find that fine-line also.

So farming, blocks, networking, and hostile mob prepping. Nice news. Obviously curious to find out more block types as I wanted to suggest more plank types. Shall now allow myself to be surprised heh. Even curious to see how farming shall play out, even with the prep-work for hostiles. Excellent

That part bothered me when seeing how light and sound was uneffected in people's videos. I'm going to ignore this hoping it'll be polished in how sound shall 'soften' when you're inside structures, same with light.
    (Also what I said above.)

(Not sure how to re-reply to Trillnar, yet shall say that I fully agree with what he said. Wish I wasn't an idiot with my choices of words. I'll simply say that "Freedom of choice in how you play is the way to go. People have creative & I have SP, maybe jumping into SMP when settled in.")

    ----

With what Red has (loosely) planned for the NPC Traders has me wondering if we'll be able to set way-points, and such. He did say they could wander around and such. Having the option to make them wander around should be interesting, if we can keep those chunks active somehow. If not, then it be neat to see where they left off to keep things being active. I could see someone spend months setting up pathways for their 'citizens' to walk down streets to go from home <-> work, or to fake grabbing resources. That I can get behind, and that I shall find myself playing around with after I would consider my session to be "over". The 'survival' aspect of it anyways. I would add in NPCs, even trying to theme them up to what I have built.

What would be the icing on the cake would be if we could, in this order:
    - Customize them (Equipment, gender, and accessories).
    - Befriend them (To be able to have them as comrades).
    - Survival (For them to grab food & water. Them being able to harvest food & Water from wild & storage).
    - Interact with player (To ask for food & water; Not just your comrade, but with all AI.)
(Basically trying to keep things basic as possible using "Rimworld" & "Timber & Stone" AI as a template. Food & Hunger? Fine. Combat is needed, while building and crafting isn't.)

I'll happily toy around with NPC Traders, if I can get the game+new comp by the time they're added. I wouldn't care if they didn't craft, nor build. I'll happily populating areas in SP (Or MP only) with these NPC Traders to settle in and learn the game's more finer details. Basically allowing them to add onto the 'presence' of the place. I know I shouldn't expect much, thus me focusing on the Traders in thought only. Though, if we can 'Create' or 'befriend' one into a comrade that shall make me even happier, thus the things above in the mini-list. I'm of course going to expect that near when game is completed because Red is a busy guy telling me firmly that to expect the overly basic on them. That's fine.

I do however hope some form of 'pet' or 'comrade' NPC is added because singleplayer can get quite lonely and eerie. Not sure I'll be able to find a server fitting for my needs so I'm constantly pushing so maybe even a mod shall allow SP to befriend, customize, and have them interact with you as "LittleMaids" (Never did play LittleMaids due to complicated installations) did in Minecraft, or Rimworld, or my Timber & Stone comparisons. I get easily creeped out with the silence of the world that I need a comrade in player or NPC form. It's why I'm pushing, same with wanting to take advantage of the vastness with my own 'designed' characters.

I guess no unique thoughts on this eh? The only thing new being how I'd spend my nights trying to get NPC Traders pathfind around the settlements. Having tellers, traders, and statue 'tourist' guide people. I wonder if we can get them to path-find, timed, and such. Having a timed tour-guide to guide you as they allow the text bubbles above their heads to hang for a set time.

(Edit: And I just NOW noticed I hijacked this thread from the OP. Ah well. I guess it's a mod idea to have the NPCs build and craft for you. I only expect my NPCs to try and survive while joining me in combat; NPC Traders to spice up the area.)
