  • Nice. But will we have flowing water (example: flowing water through a rainwater pipe) ?

Good question! I guess we will find out lol. If its not in the next update, it will probably be in the one after...

There already is flowing water in the game - you have to use creative modes static water blocks if you do not want it to flow. Regular water will already flood dungeon/caves if you get too aggro with your pickaxe next to a body of water.

What is missing is water sources. So far he only committed to rain filling the barrels next patch, but unwilling to make rain make streams flow or add natural spring water source - if it was ever done it would need to be distance limited and not possible to have mountain springs merging into rivers flowing to oceans.

  • My guess is the next step after water barrels is turn on irrigation sprinklers or soaker hoses connected to water barrels. So when it is not raining can flow the stored water into your garden - that is where a distant limit is reasonable. Of course then you look at california which has world record 82mi canal!

That will most likely come when we have a plumbing system, as intended by red.

Though I doubt we can expect that soon.

Electricity and plumbing would lift rising world on a whole new level. But it's difficult to implement, I assume

  • Waterfalls would be nice

You can fake it with creative static water blocks, but maybe wait for next patch where the area block placement is supposed to be rotatable like object blocks. I made one that has a pond flowing thru a S turn gulley then waterfalls into a lake - all underground - it looks really cool and the blockyness minecraft look is hard to see since water is transparent. But I will redo it with rotating blocks so it can better follow the channel.

Nope, not what i mean. The water goes every where; it will not flow through a pipe. Nothing is holding the water (except now for a barrel, trough, tub...)

  • Terrain is holding water

Right so your garden can be irrigated the way as it has been for thousands of years using canals (all is needed is a plant root distance check). For modern plumbing then it is wait for building blocks to be put in the same category as terrain as far as water flow goes. The problem is you cannot make a reservior - if it is connected to a drain it will empty. There needs to be a perpetual source of water. The start of that is rain barrels - but you need perpetual springs and rainfall filling reservoirs for it to work with terrain and built dams.

That will certainly be implemented. The new bin is surely only intended as a preliminary step.

red51 said on steam that perpetual water spring sources for forever distance would not be implemented, but might be able to figure out how to do distance limited. Nobody should be getting their hopes up of mountain springs flowing to streams to ponds to creeks to lakes to rivers to ocean. At best I would expect it to be useable for yard decoration and garden irrigation. Water flow algorithms are very expensive.

Problems to tackle after al the rest of trello is implemented, i think. In the meantime we will manage.

The idea of irrigation like it happend for thousands of years is good. I like building the old way with a very simple plumbing if needed; but thought more on plumbing for modern houses and waterdrainsystems on the roof that collects water in the barrels. A lot of people like to build modern structures ;)

It would make already a great difference if object collision is present for water in the game; that's enough for simple plumbing or prevent water to flow in a building standing in the sea or a lake. :D

For now just make a hollow shell of static water around the flowing water, static water does contain flowing water. Its painful to wrap your dungeon that way so I have not bothered. I filled my dungeon with stone then area cut out the rooms again - problem is it has rounded corners and when you pickaxe them it might expose you to water. I suppose I could have done the same thing but using static water and cutting it out just inside the walls - but seeing in underwater underground - forget it. I started to do that with my dam then realized I could not see a damn thing at the bottom - have a ticket open to keep the ambient sunlite on at depths because the GM headlite is not enough to see.
