How can I play on a LAN using the same copy of the standalone version of the game?

  • Good morning, I'm bardor.

Yesterday I purchased a license for the standalone version of the game so I could play on a LAN.

It seems that when I launch the game without the launcher on both computers, it’s linked to this account and displays the same username and UID on both. When I try to connect to the world I created, the game automatically kicks both the host and the guest because they’re the same.

Is it possible to play on a LAN network with a single game license? I bought the game specifically for that purpose.

Can you explain how the launcher options work? Do I need to use specific commands, and if so, what are they?

Many thanks to the developers and the entire community.

  • In principle, no, it is not possible to play on LAN with a single license: you need a second one.

It's a matter of fairness: If sharing a single license allowed multiplayer, do you think each player would buy their own key? In that case, there's no economic balance, and therefore no game.

Wie es @Örsorvals bereits gesagt hat, benötigst du einen zweiten Key. Das Spiel ist nicht teuer, es wird so oft zu einem vergünstigten Preis angeboten und ich denke, dass man sich das leisten kann...

  • What's the difference between the standalone version and the Steam version?

If I buy a new copy on Steam, can I play with cross-play?

How do the launcher options work?

Thank you very much for your answers.

  • You don't need to change anything in the options; simply click "Login" in the first window (just like clicking "Start" in your Steam library).

The host starts a single-player game; in the standalone version, use the green "Play on LAN" button, whereas in Steam, it's labeled "Play with Friends."

The client then goes to the multiplayer section, clicks the red "Connect via IP" button, and enters the IP address of the host PC (the one that started the single-player game).

  • It's indeed necessary to have a separate license per player. But the Steam- and Standalone version are compatible with each other. Basically just the Steam-features are missing from the Standalone (e.g Steam Cloud). But the main difference: the Steam version has a "Play with Friends" option which is exclusive to Steam (because it uses Steams relay servers). This option enables you to play with a friend from your Steam friends list (very much like a LAN game, but with no additional requirements).

If a Steam player and Standalone player want to play with each other, it's necessary to host a classic LAN game instead. It's the default option in the Standalone (so the easiest way is if the Standalone hosts the game). In the Steam version, however, it's hidden by default (it requires a right-click on the "Play with Friends" button) ;)

About the launcher options, basically these are optional arguments which can be passed to the game. This is mainly for technical reason (e.g if you want to force the game to run with Vulkan instead of DX11 etc) ^^

I bought a new copy on Steam. Is it possible to play the Java version using the standalone version? Steam lets you run the Java version.

I have an old computer that causes the game to crash. Is it possible to lower the game settings? Maybe if I use the Java version, it will run more smoothly and prevent that from happening.

Could we play together on the Java version? I know it’s older.

    What do you recommend?

    Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit)

    Processor: Pentium Dual-Core E2180

    Memory: 4 GB of RAM

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030

  • Yes, the Java version has indeed much lower requirements, but it's basically an entirely different game (but playing together works the same way). For the standalone, the Java version has a separate launcher (so you have to put it into a separate folder on your hard drive). But I realized that the Java launcher is missing from the download section for some reason :wat: I've fixed that now, but you can also find it here ;)
