Update 0.9.3: Animal Feeding and Taming, better caves and much more!

A new update (0.9.3) is available now!
  • Thank you so much for your feedback :)

So I have a fleet of horses on multiple servers, am I going to have to periodically log in to each one to feed in order to prevent death? How long will a feeding last for tamed animals? Also does the update make them wild again? Even with a saddle on?

In theory, yes. But alternatively you could give them access to a meadow, so they can graze.

As a last resort, you could also turn off hunger for these particular npcs. To do that, look at the npc and enter "edit flag disablehunger" into console ;)

Also do block walls effect waves at all? For example my port town was built with low standing docks and now the waves protrude above them. Would building a sea wall make the water calm?

No, unfortunately they don't block waves... I've been thinking about taking blocks into account for the wave intensity, but unfortunately I can't say much about it yet.

Currently the only way to make water calm is to reduce the water depth (this has a direct impact on the waves). In this case it might be sufficient if you just reduce the water depth below the docks (by adding terrain to the ground).

First, the little fag at the top of the sailboat's mast has disappeared; we cannot read easily the wind direction anymore. It's intentional?

Oh, thanks for letting me know, that's definitely not intended :wat: I will fix that with the next hotfix!

Second, the sliding effect on the ice is great but doesn't take into account the gravity. So, we can therefore climb easily a icy cliff without climbing stuff.

Yeah, unfortunately the sliding effect does not affect the climbing ability yet... but probably I will change that ^^

Thank you, maybe I will be able at last to force my sheeps to get pregnant by feeding them

Yes, with this update, it's indeed necessary to feed animals if you want them to become pregnant. The journal contains more information about how breeding works now ;)

    - Do lemon trees spawn only on arid islands generated after update?

Yes indeed. Unfortunately there is no Mediterranean biome yet, so right now they only spawn in arid forests.

    - "Fixed dynamite and grenades not exploding", what about fireworks (for now, I am unable to check it)?

Fireworks should be fixed, too :)

    - there are dozens of animals wandering on my island, will they all die of hunger if not fed, or will they just feed on grass?

Usually there is no need to worry about wild animals, they will just feed on grass ^^

    - can sea storms damage or destroy boats?

Not yet, but it's planned in the long run.

    - apart from animal breeding, will animals keep spawning with the spawnrate set in game settings?

    Yes, that should be unaffected^^

  • Just fed my horses, wonderful! Is there a way to tell how well-fed your animals are?

Not directly... If the animal is full, it will simply refuse food. If the "hunger level" drops below 50%, the animal looks emaciated (below 20%, it is completely emaciated). It only takes damage once the level reaches 0%. So if it doesn't look emaciated, there's basically no reason to worry ^^

Thanks for getting back, very helpful

  • I know this is probably a big ask BUT.

Would you be able to put in a switch to turn off the waves? Like you did with t

My specials eye cannot handle it. FOUND HOW TO TURN OFF OCEAN WAVES

I hear on the grapevine that the lights now have a flicker? I found out how to turn the flicker down but there is still something mucking with my eyes.

OF course I cannot check it our as I have lots to do today 😁😁

Unfortunately, I haven't quite figured out yet whether simply feeding the animals is enough to breed them, or if you also need to spend time near them. Has the former replaced the latter, or is it an additional requirement?

  • Would you be able to put in a switch to turn off the waves? Like you did with the storm effects?

You can already find it in the graphics settings (it's just called "Water Waves" there) :)

In theory, yes, but it really depends. Basically you need to spend some time near the animals, but feeding the favorite food, for example, is usually already sufficient ^^

  • i know i can select the spawn rate of animals, but i think the ones already spawned stay in the world. Is it possible to select the spawnrate before world creation, or affecting the already spawned animals when change spawn rate?

Affecting spawned animals retroactively is a bit difficult unfortunately... some people might not be happy if they lose their animals just because they changed a slider in the settings =O Probably it's better to use the deletenpcs console command instead: first change the slider, then use the command to delete all npcs (maybe reload the world then to trigger a respawn of new animals) :)

  • Greetings RED, I want to send you a huge thank you for keeping this game alive for all of us. I guess it’s not that important, but I have to say that if I haven't commented on the latest update posts, it's just because I’ve been really busy (I really want to try this game with an ultra high-end graphics card, and to get there, you gotta work and work!). My apologies for the silence.

The previous update is personally my favorite—it opens up so many possibilities to make the game look legendary and allows us to push our creativity even further as players. Infinite thanks; that was truly the update I was waiting for.

On the animal side, there has been so much progress. Your hard work really shows; compared to the Java version, this build is a massive step forward. I can’t even imagine what’s to come, and you just keep letting your actions speak louder than our requests. It’s admirable that a game like this continues to be maintained and gets better with every single update.

I haven't played in a little while, but I do remember a small "bug" I wasn't able to mention at the time:

I built a primitive-style post and tried to place some standard torches on it using the permanent object placement feature from the previous update. The issue is that the torches turn off shortly after being placed in the world. I’m not sure if anyone else has reported this, but I couldn’t leave it unmentioned.

It’s not that I want to keep asking for things (as I mentioned, I can't really think of many major additions left), but I’d like to mention a few details that aren't in your great game yet:

    * Birds: Even if their movements or animations are a bit buggy at first, the game really needs them—their absence is definitely felt.

    * Aquatic life: Since you are working on animals and NPCs now, it would be awesome to see fish and aquatic creatures moving in the water. Even if we can't hunt them, having them act mainly as decorative elements would add so much life to the world.

    * Trees: Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for the new trees (I'm a total tree lover, haha). My idea is that even if no new species are added, having more model variations for the existing tree types would be fantastic.

    * In-world music players: Speakers, cassette players, jukeboxes, or similar devices. I understand the copyright issues, but maybe there's a way to implement this via mods or external plugins? I don't just mean listening to music directly through the UI, but having it play from a physical object in the map where distance and environmental sounds affect the audio volume.

    * Primitive era elements: Personally, I would love for the game not to lose its primitive touch. Having more primitive weapons, tools, and clothing options would be great. I don't mean for this to conflict with awesome features many of us are waiting for—like electricity, modern vehicles, and trains—just a complement to them.

I also have a quick question that I'm not sure has been addressed on the forum yet: Is there any possibility in the future to implement NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 technology into Rising World once the brand officially launches it?

Lastly, I’m testing out the new update, but I can’t figure out how to see moving waves. Could it be because all my seas and lakes were created from scratch? (I'm playing on a superflat world and using terrain tools to build islands and lakes).

Huge congratulations on keeping up with this ambitious project. Seeing the update today was an awesome surprise. Best wishes to you and your family!

  • I would like to have plant pots back. Of course I can make a blueprint using available materials and flower placing (after "gm 1" command), but in the winter time the flowers freeze even in a room with fireplace.

    that's the one!

actually if you start another world the you got the spawnrate that you chose, so don't need to deletenpc
