Update 0.9.3: Animal Feeding and Taming, better caves and much more!

A new update (0.9.3) is available now!

Latest Hotfix: 0.9.3.2 (2026-09-11)
  • Hello, im here to report a few bugs, and question somehting:

    1. The textures in the F5 terrain menu look cursed

    2. I know this is a older bug, but player bodies still stretch out in multiplayer when the player is dead.

    3. A player in my server said he sometimes gets glitched terrain when mining, so simpely unlaoded parts. It is not the old unlaoded chunks problem I got earlier, that was just my wifi.

    4. I don't know if this is a bug at all, but you can't repair or sharpen the morning star. sharpening might not sound logic, but repairing should be possible, because now it's a very rare item, but even if you fidn it, it can be crude and you won't be able to repair it....

5.Another thing that might not be a bug at all, but giving a weapon or item to a npc doesnt change te damage, like you can give a bandit a legendary katana, but he still does the same damage liek his normal sword.

    I also got some questions:

    1. What is the new gem item??

    2. Will we be able to craft the barbarian fur and pants and shoes and helmet? Honestly it looks pretty simpe from fur and the helmet from iron, so it would be logic to craft it, like the fur items from the barbarians look very well for a beginner armor set, and the helmet looks very good too.

    3. WIll we be able to craft the bow on a primitive workbench? it makes nos ense that it requires a normal workbench since you can craft primitive arrows on the primitive workbench

  • Also, will we be able to put animals on boats to transport them elsewhere?

If I respond in German, sorry for bad grammar. I don't speak German, but I do speak Google Translate. The community seems too nice to stay away!

  • So. After playing update for few days straight on freshly made map, testing caves, climbing rope, grabbing few chickens, then breaking few eggs due to full inventory. I think I will write short opinion about world gen and new rope climbing mechanic.

I havent tested all items and animal taming mechanics yet, mostly concentrated on exploring and caves. Overall love this update most this far from everything that was made with world generation. Caves are amazing, always looking different and exploring them feels risky and dangerous. Darkness around adds pressure. One time while descending down on rope I almost landed directly on top of a spider, and few times died from starvation, because I was not careful exploring underground and got lost. Perfection!

Surface level now has those tiny caves instead of accurate round tunnels, that I can only fit in if I crouch. And ravines and different openings are sight to behold. This game makes me crawl into every opening and hole now to see what new cave will look like.

Just beautiful work. I am now gathering materials to build proper mine in those huge caves. Cant wait to find out what next update will bring us!

P.S. Did not notice any bugs this far from my survial game.

  • Can you pet them? I didn't find a way.

Yes, as mentioned by Vandoide , you have to put your item away to do this. The default key for this is H.

Sinkhole - yes, they briefly drop one block level (into the stone they walk on) then hop back up again, human and animal NPC's alike. Like I wrote in the email, could it be that they get close to an obstacle like a wall or other object placed on top of the surface they walk on and then try to compensate with down/up instead of left/right/turn first to avoid that? - is that why NPC's walking down stairs work but not walking up?

I think I found the issue... I can't reproduce it unfortunately, but I'm confident that this should get the issue sorted out. If it's still happening after the hotfix, please let me know :)

The hotfix will also improve the stair handling, so NPCs should be able to walk stair up^^

With regards to what Nr1Dane mentioned about animals sinking into the ground and popping back up, I have had a similar problem happen in my basement with my chickens and piglets. At first, it was a few chickens finding a specific spot in my concrete floor to sink halfway in. I’d just pick them up and move them. A day later, while my chickens were sleeping, I found I was missing one. I used the sledgehammer to remove the 4x0.5x4 floor block where the chickens would sink, and there was my missing chicken, sleeping. I replaced all my 0.5 thick blocks with full 1.0 blocks and they never sank again.

This indeed sounds like the same issue Nr1Dane is having... if this still happens after the hotfix (tomorrow), please let me know ^^

On a side-note, a request for the future: Being able to add milk to open barrels like we can with water right now. Maybe this could one day lead to cheese-making.

Instead of being able to put it into barrels, I want to add a milk churn :saint: I really hope to get it ready for one of the next updates.

    1. The textures in the F5 terrain menu look cursed

Hmm... what do you mean with "cursed"? Could you maybe post a screenshot of that? :wat:

    2. I know this is a older bug, but player bodies still stretch out in multiplayer when the player is dead.

Oh, I was hoping that this issue was finally fixed =O Reproducing this is a bit tricky, but I will take another closer look at this!

    3. A player in my server said he sometimes gets glitched terrain when mining, so simpely unlaoded parts. It is not the old unlaoded chunks problem I got earlier, that was just my wifi.

What does the glitched terrain look like? Entire chunks missing? Or just small gaps in the chunk?

    4. I don't know if this is a bug at all, but you can't repair or sharpen the morning star. sharpening might not sound logic, but repairing should be possible, because now it's a very rare item, but even if you fidn it, it can be crude and you won't be able to repair it....

Yeah, unfortunately the morning star cannot be used on the grind stone... I will think about that!

5.Another thing that might not be a bug at all, but giving a weapon or item to a npc doesnt change te damage, like you can give a bandit a legendary katana, but he still does the same damage liek his normal sword.

Yes, currently the modifier is not taken into account for npc weapons. But it's something I definitely want to change^^

    1. What is the new gem item??

It's not ready yet :saint: I forgot to remove it before releasing the update :D

    3. WIll we be able to craft the bow on a primitive workbench? it makes nos ense that it requires a normal workbench since you can craft primitive arrows on the primitive workbench

Well, the problem is that it still requires a rope atm... which requires a regular workbench (+spinning wheel) :/

Also, will we be able to put animals on boats to transport them elsewhere?

In theory, you can already put them on boats. The next hotfix will also stabilize their position on boats. But we definitely need larger boats so there's enough room for the animals on board ^^

Has anyone mentioned yet that fireworks causes a NullReferenceException after being set off?

Oh, thanks for letting me know! This will be fixed with the new hotfix :saint:

  • Another hotfix is now available btw! It adds the missing foal variants (this means that all horse variants can now be bred), improves the npc collision detection and performance (especially if there are many npcs in your proximity) and fixes several issues.

By the way, ice is now much more slippery (if you don't like that, there's a setting for it in the config).

This update also adds a fallback to the server browser: if our master server is down, it will try to request the server list from Steam instead. But with this update, favorite servers will always be visible in the server list (so even if the master server and Steam are down, you will see your favorite server in the list). To add a server to your favorites, just press the small star on the left.

Multiplayer servers need to be updated.

    Hotfix 0.9.3.2 (2026-09-11):

    • [New] Add missing foal variants
    • [New] "editnpc" dialog can now also change hunger and taming value of an NPC
    • [New] Added graphics setting to reduce the weather particles on less powerful hardware
    • [Change] Improve performance when there are several active npcs nearby
    • [Change] NPCs can now go up and down stairs more easily
    • [Change] NPCs no longer sleep if they have the "Static" flag
    • [Change] Selecting a blueprint in tree view (left) now scrolls to the blueprint
    • [Change] Heart-Animation is now always visible when feeding a tamed animal
    • [Change] Snow (e.g during winter) along the shore is no longer slightly submerged
    • [Change] Ice is a lot more slippery now (also added setting to config to change the slipperiness)

    • [Change] Rakes work a lot faster now
    • [Change] Chickens are now also grazing
    • [Change] Increased visibility of death marker on the map (previously it was barely visible)
    • [Change] Server browser now requests servers from Steam if the master server is down
    • [Change] Favorite servers in server browser are now always visible, even if the server is offline
    • [Bugfix] Fixed a few remaining NPC collision issues (feedback needed)
    • [Bugfix] Fixed wrong wave intensity on water plants
    • [Bugfix] Potentially fixed "dithered" items in hands on AMD graphics cards (feedback needed)
    • [Bugfix] Fixed rake causing small bumps on flat terrain
    • [Bugfix] Fixed intense shore foam on shallow water
    • [Bugfix] Old boot should now be wearable if it was caught while fishing
    • [Bugfix] Fixed an issue where blueprint terrain still had a small offset when placing it
    • [Bugfix] Fixed empty blueprint list after returning to the main menu and reloading a world
  • I think this is definitely bug. If you pick up starved chicken and then place it back on ground - it becomes fully fed again. Tried it multiple times with 4 chickens of different colours. Results were same for all.

P.S. No. Did not starve chickens on purpose...

  • I think I found the issue... I can't reproduce it unfortunately, but I'm confident that this should get the issue sorted out. If it's still happening after the hotfix, please let me know :)

The hotfix will also improve the stair handling, so NPCs should be able to walk stair up^^

I can confirm that the NPCs can walk up/down stairs again - including my crazy chickens, they can now happily walk up/into and down/out of my chicken coop. - Very very awesome - Thank you!

When starting the game with the hotfix I found one NPC (a penguin) stuck half way in the floor shaking rapidly and could not get out. I moved him out manually and all good. Think he was stuck from before the hotfix. Have not observed any other NPCs falling through.

But I have a new one for you - it is NOT a BIG deal but thought I'd mention it:

Here NPCs get into this "planters box" and cannot immediately get out. I observed them slide from side to side a few times, sometimes back and forth a few times (cool to watch). Then when I prepared to make a blueprint of one of these boxes the NPC managed to get out. It took quite some time. I'll send you a copy of the BP in case you want to take a look, but again, no biggie.

My temporary workaround of this is to place a glass pane into the inner area of the inside planters box (I have a lot of these on my compound). I will probably rework the whole planters box scenario later to compensate for the steep step, this is after all my "old" rookie game world slowly evolving.
