I agree - pole to pole biome generation would be my default choice as well. Every player should get the chance to make their own world generation choices, but the idea of heading north of the equator and finding the temperatures dropping would be exciting. It also might be determined by altitude. So that as you ascend a mountain the temperature would drop and the biome would change as well.

The addition of crystals would be great! :) There should definitely be different kinds of crystals and the more common ones would be found near the surface. The rare crystals that are more perfect in structure would be found deep underground and would be difficult to obtain. What would be some uses for crystals in Rising World?? :?::?:

Would you need them in a fantasy setting where they could be added to a staff that is then imbued with power?

If chopped trees fall in a predictable and realistic way then fall damage would be a nice addition to the game. It would add one more flavor of realism and there is a bit of that in Rising World already. On the other hand, if tree fall cannot be modeled realistically then this would become a major frustration very quickly to players, especially for new players. Consider someone is frantically cutting down a tree in the dark because they are trying to build a shelter. In the real world the tree that he just chopped down would have rolled away from him, but this one does not and kills him. For some people that might be enough to quit playing.

Your buildings look great! Your attention to detail has resulted in a farm house that looks ready to move into. Can you share any thoughts about how you made your fences look so consistent? My fences seem to look like a drunk carpenter passed through my village on his way to pass out in bed.

It is clear to anyone who has played Rising World for more than 5 minutes and has a pulse that the developers are responsive to bugs and forum complaints. Devs - keep up the good work you have started. Players - insert the truth whenever conjecture and outright falsehood are presented as fact in the forums. If we do that in time people will come to purchase and enjoy this game like we have.

Real world biome location would be a great world generation option. If the world were large enough the biomes would change from artic to tundra to forest, etc., all the way to the equator and then the biomes would reverse their order back to artic. I don't know how much computing power these ideas would take, but it might also be fun if deserts were placed behind the rain shadow of the mountains and other similar real weather characteristics. On the other hand some players may want to have random biome location when their world is created. That option should be available as well. Under most circumstances additional options result in a better player experience. That is unless the options are too complicated or have little impact on the game.

I like the idea that the wooden torch mount could only be stuck in the ground. This would provide enough incentive for players to seek out iron ore and produce a more useful mount.

Here are a couple of related questions:

    1. Will tools take damage as they are used? In the past I have thought that they should not take damage as long as they as being used properly. For example, if a player were to use a pick axe to cut down a tree then it would take damage, but if was used on stone then it would not.

    2. What would happen to a player who somehow lost his axe and pick axe before he/she was able to build a crafting station? Would that player be able to use their hands to accumulate raw materials?

Completely agree with you Quezax. My castle most definitely needs some shrubbery to spruce up the look of the place. Right now I end up with either bare dirt or stone tiles in front of every building. It looks like my building budget ran out and no money was available for landscaping. ^^

Nova - the new rug is great. Is it a bear? That would most definitely be useful in my world. Would it be possible to have different colors available so that we could use the arrows in game to select slightly different versions? Now I need to figure out would it look better on the floor or on the wall... so many decisions in this game. Once again thanks for your contributions to this forum - they are much appreciated.

I noticed this morning that I could no longer simply add ore to my game with "item ore 64". It now says that I don't have permission. Was this intentionally taken out? It was my assumption that eventually this would be changed, but I am a bit surprised that it would happen this quickly.

 It is nice to meet you all.

I have to say that I am surprised that a team of three has been able to put this project together. Although, there are many game functions that do not currently work, this is a very solid build for an alpha state game. How long have you been working on Rising World?

I meant that as a joke and in a more general sense of anticipation for new game features, not specifically to this particular bug. The administrators are no doubt working hard and will move beyond helping steam users in the near future. I hope that my previous statement would be seen as an encouraging comment, given to show how much I appreciate what they have done and will do in Rising World.

I am a steam player and without too much trouble I managed to get Rising World to play properly on my Mac. It's time to tell them that they are holding up some important updates and that they need to get with the program (literally and figuratively). :D The trouble is I haven't been this excited about a game in quite a long time and it is hard to wait, even more so during my two week Christmas break.

Would you be able to make a roof texture for a small cottage? I was thinking about a block that looks like straw, but that might not be the best solution. It should look like it is not a terribly expensive material to build with, something that the commoners use because they can't afford anything better. With all of that said it should have a charming quality to it. Any thoughts or textures would be most appreciated. Thanks! :)

Welcome Garlotch to the Rising World community. There is so much potential with this sandbox game, so many ways to build a unique world that you want to create. The developers do read the forum and will respond to your questions and suggestions. Please go and explore this Alpha build and then come back and share your experiences/screenshots/videos with the rest of us.

Thanks for sharing your first house with the rest of us. :) It will be interesting to see what textures and furniture become available in the future and how you might change your design. The clean lines of your house are very contemporary. I think the next time that I want to remodel my real house I'll use Rising World to design it.

It's great to hear player ideas about this alpha game. This is, after all, a sandbox game and monster options make it possible for more diverse worlds to be created. It is my hope that an easy to use interface will be implemented in the yet to be released creative mode so that everybody will be able to easily make the world they want to create. It is clear that the developers do read this forum and are listening to us, so add to the monster list and you never know what might show up in the next update. It might be fun to add monsters that will attack players within an appropriate biome. Here are a few examples:

    6. wolverines & cougars (mountain lions) - forest biome
    7. jaguars - jungle biome
    8. lions - savannah biome
    9. polar bears & trolls - tundra

Thanks for showing us the textures you have created. I can already imagine some places in my world where they would look great. If the developers would be willing to vet textures created by users it would not take long before a large library would be available. None the less, I am sure you get the opportunity to add these at some point in the future.
