And yes.... been restarting the server many times a day for last 2 weeks. Good news is it is not your plugin causing the issue.

yeah ive been trying to connect to your server but it only loads to 5% then wont connect, added you on steam to try and help you find out that is going on, btw do you do daily reboots ?
Was just looking at the server in multiplayer screen and it shows no one on ..... someone was on there 30 minutes or so ago..........when the 5% thing happens it will always show for example 1 person playing if there was one person on at the time of the connection drop.
Have got on with no problem.
Yesterday I reverted the definitions.db file to default.
Modified the textures of the grass biome and connection was stable. This change to one record in the biomes data gives my server the look I want.
Looked at how many lions, elephants, zebras etc were on the server and there were a lot of zebra.
Have modified the herd sizes of all animals so there are 1 or 2 spawning at any one time.
So far the server is good.......... but as far as i know the 5% thing has not happened for 8 hours or so.
At this stage the server looks good but do not have any african animals in the grass biome yet........ will test them one at a time.
Instead of adding a new record to the database file saying add these animals to grass, I will amend the existing record and change arid to grass so do a switch rather than a new record.
-
I ruled out the Area Protection plugin as the server dropped the connection many times without the plugin being installed.
Restored the definitions. dB file and am modifying and testing each change to the file.
I modified the textures for the grass biome and the server was fine.
I then looked at how many lions, elephants, zebra, etc were in the world and there were a lot of zebra for some reason......... turned down the settings so for the animals herd would be between 1 and 2 in number.
So far the server seems to be holding.
I know wolves were added in the end of August update and will add them to the grass biome and test them today.
-
My server was crashing even when Area Protection was not installed on the server... this means something happening with my server since the update end of last month and nothing to do with this plugin.
-
The only issue I saw with that one is that from what I read the signs remain in your world even after your remove the plugin....... and there was a question on how to delete the signs.
May have to test this one in single play.

I know that some servers on the older version of Rising World had the ability to sell items in shops... is there anything similar in the new version of Rising World yet?
-
Started building a town on the map similar to what they had with Medieval Realms in Java.......... that should test the connection
-
Not sure if this has been fixed.... don't think anyone has been on the server in a few days except Yahgiggle yesterday.
Changed this line in server.properties which I believe has fixed the problem.
# Amount of heap memory (MB) for the Java VM. Default: 1024
Plugins_Memory=4096
-
maybe try increasing the memory for plugins, Plugins_Memory=4096 or similar in the server.properties file
I increased the memory for plugins on the server to 4096......... tried creating the issue where I would be thrown off the server and was flying around for 15 minutes and did not have issues... will see how it is when 5 or 6 people hop on the server later on.
-
Was ist in the Java version? The Java version had no built-in area protection at all unfortunately, so anything there was either done with a Lua script or a plugin^^
If it was in the new version, it was probably also a plugin. There is unfortunately no area self-claim in the game yet (but it's on our to-do list)
I saw where you had replied that this is something I can do on the server in creative mode but is bnot something other player can do.....
Doing some testing to see if allocating more memory to plugins in server.properties fixes the issue with Area Protection.
-
ill keep a eye on that, did you modify the RW database at all ?
I have modified 4 tables in the definitions.db file for the server............ have done these modifications for over a year.
-
We have the same issue on our server..... for some reason the show and hide buttons appear at the top.... but not all the time.... one player on the server could not get out of it so I told her to logout and log back in which fixed the problem.
But yes,.... seeing the same thing as Paks but not all the time.

There is indeed a built-in area protection (which is directly connected to the permission system): You can create areas in creative mode using the F9 tools. You can then assign a "default" permission to that area (which affects all players which enter the area) and/or player-specific permissions. This way you could, for example, forbid all destructive changes inside that area, but only allow it for certain players you assign to the area.
This topic contains more information about the built-in area protection: Area Protection [New Version]
And this topic provides more information about the permissions: Permissions [New Version]
Right now there are two limitations though: Players cannot "claim" existing areas yet (this means the admin has to create and setup areas for players), and there is no proper way for players to create their own areas (you could allow the "create" permission in the "area" section of the player permissions, but that's not a proper solution yet).
So if it's ok for you that the admin has to setup areas for the players, the built-in tools basically cover everything you need
Thanks Red........ I do remember being on old servers back in the day and the admins there telling me to pick an area and they will create a huge protective area around my area....... never knew how they were doing that.
Will look further into it and see what I do on the server.......
-
yes, there are. you can create and set up areas with F9.
but maybe you shouldn't use the plugin and the area tools at the same time
I don't have the plugin installed.
I pressed F9 but nothing happened........

I am confused in how deep I been mining. So far no natural tunnels or anything. Outside is level 418. When I am underground that number is all over the place. When I step in the tunnel I have dug, the level goes up to 527. Near the end of my tunnel is level 490, depth 191. When I climb up and go up in the tunnel. Level goes up but depth jumps to 218. Trying to find ores and any underground forts like in the java version. Plus like to see what spiders and lava wolves look like. Look like a gentle slope to going down in my tunnel in parts.
Be sure you have plenty of torches on you..... I went into the caves earlier and it got dark and I got trapped in there... it was brutal lol

It appears the Area Protection plugin may have started having issues with the new update end of August.
Red.... did you have area protection included somewhere in Rising World.... I thought I saw something about it a few years ago?
-
I cannot see any problem too but if i do find out i will let you know,
I understand a few people on my server do a lot of flying...may ne this has something to do with it....especially if you have area visibility on... with all the green areas being left in a trail behind as you fly, I wonder if this has an impact.

Hi Yahgiggle
I have been looking at an issue with our server where we would have 4 or 5 people on the server and after 10 minutes or so everyone would be kicked off. When we try to get back on the server the percentage meter gets as far as 5% and then goes back to menu. The only way for me to get people back on the server is to do a restart of the server.
We have been using Area Protection on the server since March and when everyone was being kicked from the server I had assumed it was due to the new update we got from Red.
Unfortunately, tests I did yesterday showed the server does not have an issue if I do not have Area Protection added to the server plugins folder.
As soon as I add Area Protection back into the plugins folder, we have people being dropped from the server and a restart required.
This is what the the extended log showed at the time where people were disconnected from the server yesterday with the text in red being the error causing the players to be disconnected from the server.

Below is the last comment from Red about what he was seeing with this error.

Thanks for the serverlog! It looks like the server didn't crash at all actually... according to the log, it still ran for quite some time after you've lost connection? In fact the server didn't really get a full connection loss: Steam lost the connection (that's why the k_EAuthSessionResponseAuthTicketCanceled message showed up in the log), but ENet (our underlying network framework) didn't even see a connection loss / timeout
The k_EAuthSessionResponseAuthTicketCanceled message comes from a Steam callback btw. The server just prints that, but doesn't take any action when this happens (i.e it doesn't kick the client, for example). As far as I can tell it's not the reason for your timeout, instead it is just a result of the timeout.
After taking a closer look at your second last report, you get a timeout. However, according to the log, you also get a timeout to our server at the same time - but our server is not related to the multiplayer server in any way. A connection to our server is also not required, but since you're getting a timeout to both servers (and also to Steam), this indicates that this is probably not related to the server and instead seems to be a clientside issue. You mentioned somewhere that the server still thought that 1 player is only, while in fact you lost connection, is that correct? This seems to be in line with ENet not detecting a connection loss. It's hard to tell what's causing this, but it could be possibly a firewall or av program which interfers with the connection. Honestly this does not look like to be caused by the game directly
After losing connection to the server, did you keep it running for a few minutes? Maybe it just takes a bit longer until the server detects the timeout (it could take up to 30 seconds or even longer).
If you take another attempt at this and you get a timeout again, maybe also send a report at the same time (when you get the timeout message). Wait for maybe 1-2 minutes before grabbing the serverlog (to see if it maybe gets a timeout then).
I have attached the server log here if you want to look at it. Unfortunately something with the update of Rising world end of August seems to have some conflict somewhere with Area Protection.
-
Our server is still up 7 hours later with people using the server...if the server has not thrown people off in the next 24 hours then this suggests the problem has to do with an Area Protection plugin that we have being using for over 6 months.
-
We have 4 people on our server at the moment and so far no issues...........
