Poster info

A new update is now available, introducing seasons and more!
Latest hotfix: 0.8.0.1 (2024-12-20)
  • Is there a way to find out who uploaded a poster image or placed it in the world?

Long-story short, I had installed a new auto-restart program for my server but the directory was properly setup so it didn't load any permissions or plugins or save any logs when the server restarted. Someone took advantage of that and destroyed our spawn building and all they left behind was a poster of Shrek... :|

All good on restoring our spawn as I had a blueprint of it, just trying to figure out who needs to be banned since no logs were saved while the protection plugin wasn't working. =/

If there is not a way to track this, it might be a good idea to add since we've had players upload porn or other inappropriate images in the past that need to be moderated.

  • using an sqlite browser goto the worlds/worldname folder and open events.db go to the general area where it happen and press f3 twice to get the areas x and y coordinates now look in the events database and find the columns posx and posy to narrow it down. this will give you all the info you need to ban them.

  • Thanks! Found who uploaded the shrek image and griefed our spawn area and several players builds too. It was player Bozbird. I suggest all server owners ban him as he seems to create nothing but trouble. SteamID 76561198314424408

  • yes it was also Bozbird who spammed blueprints in unwanted areas on my own server

How is this possible if you have blueprints properly locked down via default.json? I know with vanilla claim protection I have default permissions set to all of them (via Guest permissions which is a copy of default.json), so if they are not owner, it's default.json (no BPs etc)

Regardless, was a crappy thing what Bozbird did. But it's ultimately on us if we leave the doors unlocked, players like Boz will exploit and create a mess, like a child.

  • I have also banned that person from my server after a similar experience. At least they just edited my signs. Also tried to "frame" another player by signing the signs as someone else, but I checked the logs =P

Bozbird, if you are reading this.... why? If you want to grief, why not go to a more mainstream MMO, like Minecraft or Roblox. I'm sure you'd get more of a rise out of people there.

  • Not condoning what Bozbird did, but, Tarkus0 instead, why not properly lock down your server? You can make it so no signs can be edited unless they own them inside their claims. Can prevent them from using BPs ... or even if they do use BP can lock to inside claim only. Can also make it so they cannot BP any structure they do not own. Instead of complaining about what some kids do, explain how you stop it. Start with default.json .. make sure u lock everything you don't want them using. Create groups, create guest permissions for claims etc. and TEST, have regular players help you test it is locked down proper vs finding out the hard way by some immature child on an ego trip. no offense, just my 2 cents, been hosting game servers off and on for decades.

  • For what its worth, we have everything locked down normally so that players can only do things in claimed areas, and Bozbird has played on our server for a long time with only minor issues of disagreements with other players, and he even played on our java version before I believe. But the second he found a vulnerability, he exploited it to destroy as much as he could. Is that a player you want to keep around on your server?

  • Juggernaut, I'm technically competent but I have never hosted any game server before. I know your server has been around for a long time and is busy. I set up my server on a whim 2 weeks ago. I do need to go through and configure many settings still. And yes, I could leave it password protected until then. But then how would I notice issues like this?

Since all I have done is build some of the spawn area (and that's been blueprinted anyway), I'm not too concerned with protecting anything yet. Also I plan to transfer the server to another machine soon. Consider it a "soft opening" for now, I plan to put it up on the server announcements page whenever I get it ready.

Anyway, I'm hoping that RW never attracts significant numbers of childish people like Boz. As you know, when a server gets big or busy you will always need some active human moderation. Permissions wouldn't prevent someone from swearing in the chat, political/conspiracy rants, building an offensive structure, posting pornographic posters... there's just so many ways a troll can get creative!

  • First of all, since they are talking about me here, I also have the right to defend myself. And I also had the right to say something.

First of all, I am not a hacker. I didn't break any rules. It says in the server rules that I should not damage players' areas. When I entered the game, there was no claim area. All areas were open to everyone, including my area. I didn't even know if the server was abandoned or not.

Who can say that someone has a right to a field that is technically and theoretically open to everyone?

In this game, all kinds of restrictions can be made by software and server administrators. I didn't do any software hacking. I didn't do anything in the game that wasn't allowed.

If it's a game, software problems are always a problem. It is not right to carry out extrajudicial executions. It is impossible for me, as a normal player, to do anything that is not allowed on the server.

Red Baron also wrote on the forum that I have been playing games on my own for a long time. I didn't do anything that was technically prohibited.

It is not written in the game or on the server that the game has faulty codes and even if these errors occur, we should ignore them.

If it was reported that there were errors in the game and that we should treat these errors as if there were no errors, I would act this way.

I have made many friends in this community over the years and played on many servers. I haven't had any problems so far. I've been playing this game for about 5 years. As a result, I am aware that I have upset and annoyed some people. Nobody is perfect. From now on, I ask for forgiveness from all server owners one last time. I promise you that from now on there will be nothing but improving this community and being a good player. I accept that everyone bans me if I make the slightest mistake.

  • mistakes are indeed mistakes, but to report that someone had smashed buildings and then that person turns out to be you, then denied doing it, is unacceptable behavior, there are always times when something does not do what its expected todo leaving open vulnerabilities, the fact that you took advantage of them on a server that has been up for a long time with an active Admin leaves you're defense in question, also the fact you have done similar things to other servers including my own, and when i had you up about it you totally denied it. maybe over time you could earn back the respect thats upto you.

  • I am happy to be part of this community. And I promise to behave accordingly. Everyone deserves a second chance. I ask all server owners to allow me to show that I can do good things one last time. Please lift my bans and accept my apology.

Give it one last chance and see how good I'll be for this community. I am waiting for the response of all server owners. Appreciation is yours, thank you
