Update on trello

The next update will be available on Wednesday, December 18, in the early evening (GMT+1).

This update will not yet replace the Java version, instead it is the actual content update. We'll provide more information about the transition together with the update.
  • So, no one seems to notice here, but Red have published some news on trello.

Main changes are female character, map, maybe wolves (a screen without comment on trello), terrain materials for blocks, more advanced API... and a good surprise: a small sailing ship (dhow).

  • The only surprise thing on there is the small sail boat as the rest has been discussed in the forums, but damn that's one helluva surprise. I like the look of the rowboat, but damn it's so so a faster old world boat is definitely a welcome addition.

really liking the look of the map, it easily fits any time period / genre, etc.

The only thing I would say is the wolves still need a bit of work on the look, especially around the face, the fur isn't quite poofy enough it looks like fur textured skin more than fur. It's hard to balance look and performance for lower end machines so not that bit of a deal.

  • The face of the wolves looks fine, the body the body still needs to be reworked.

The female face looks masculine and the lips look injected.

Let's wait and see what comes next.

I didn't mean the face, I meant the head... it looks like someone shaved all the fur off, especially around the scruff / neck / cheek area I guess you'd call it.

  • Thanks for your feedback! :)

Basically the wolves are as fluffy (or not fluffy) as the other animals ^^ Right now the game doesn't render any fur specifically (mostly for reasons of performance), except for the lion (but it only uses very basic fur).

Having said that, we've done some preparations for better fur rendering in general, while still keeping an eye on performance. We don't have an ETA yet, but once it's ready, it will make most animals more fluffy (please bear in mind that this is still work-in-progress and only provides a basic fur rendering - fully fledged fur rendering is not possible without killing the performance unfortunately) ;)

I don't see any of those other than the wolves O.o

Here you can see the latest additions :) Activity List

  • Okay I owe you an apology. Looking at this preview picture compared to the other one it was the way the one wolf was standing that was making it look like the fur was flatter looking that what it actually is. I do sincerely apologize and hope my original comment didn't offend.

  • Yes and I only see wolves. But it's fine, still excite to hear there's been development!

Maybe it's the scrolling then, unlike most websites you need to scroll horizontally and not vertically.

red51 Its really nice to see the progress on the game :).

A question about the dhows: What is the width and the air draft ? It's better to anticipate to build bridges at the good size.

If you click on the three dots ... in the top right of the trello board, you can click on "Activity" and see all of the recent updates red51 has made to the roadmap.

Oh, don't worry, I definitely did not consider your post offensive :D You still brought up a completely valid point (and we indeed have plans to improve fur rendering in the future, as mentioned above) ^^

The air draft is roughly 7-8 blocks. The total length is almost 9 blocks and the width (including sails) is around 7 blocks ^^

But please bear in mind that this may still change a bit. Also, there will be bigger vessels in the future :D

Thanks for the info and your good work on this game. Its a good new: all bridges I have made on Medieval realms are at the right size and most have some extra space for bigger vessel :).
