Update 0.8.1: New Version [EN]

  • We've just released a minor hotfix btw! It fixes issues with eating meat, but also a few other minor things. This update is optional for multiplayer servers ;)

    Hotfix (2024-02-01):

    • [Bugfix] Fixed issue that prevented the player from eating meat
    • [Bugfix] Fixed dirt blocks (including farmland) not being craftable
    • [Bugfix] Fixed map flickering on some graphic cards
    • [Bugfix] Fixed display issues in console when using the "commands" command
    • [Bugfix] Fixed wrong size of manhole cover
  • Oh, that's weird :wat: Basically when launching the new version for the first time, it will move all Java files from the main game directory to a "_Java Version" subfolder. Then it moves all files from the "_New Version" folder into the main game directory. If something goes wrong (e.g. game gets an "access denied" error from the OS), an error will be shown in the main menu (in the lower right corner) - but in any case the files should still be there.

What do you mean exactly with the game not behaving normally on launch/load? 8|

The Java version also had an "Images" folder. If the new version detected an image folder in the main game directory (containing java files), it was supposed to move it to "_Java Version" subfolder. However, if the "Images" folder was located in the "_New Version" subfolder, the game shouldn't touch it (it only moves files/folders which are known to the game).

All of the old Java version files were moved correctly, it was the Unity version that it had some issues with, but didn't show any errors on the menu. I ended up with both the old file structure and the new one and files spread out / duplicated between the two.

When I would try to launch the game it would take a lot longer than normal (not just the first time after updating) and kept minimizing the game when trying to launch it and then it was taking longer to load the worlds, menus, etc. The best way I can describe it is like it what trying to figure out which file structure it was supposed to use. It still ended up loading everything fine in the long run, just wasn't acting right. As soon as did the uninstall / reinstall so I only had the new file structure it went back to working perfectly as normal.

Like I said, it wasn't a big deal and an easy fix, just thought I'd mention it because it was weird it didn't throw an error message even though it had issues trying to move the files and copied some instead of moving them.

It's actually normal that the initial launch took a bit longer. The game moves all files before initializing anything (that's why you just see a black screen while all files are moved/copied). However, it shouldn't minimize automatically :wat: Anyway, I'm glad to hear it works now :)

  • We've released another minor hotfix btw :saint: It adds a new volume slider to change player eating noises specifically, but it also fixes a small bug which prevented items from being repaired at the grindstone.

This update is also optional for multiplayer servers (but it's still recommendable to update them) ;)

    Hotfix (2024-02-01):

    • [New] Added volume slider for player eating noises
    • [Bugfix] Fixed items not being repairable at the grindstone
    • [Bugfix] Fixed random error when equipping large blueprints

Oh, that's weird  Did you place the gramophone after the update (or before the update)? If it still doesn't work, mabye pick up the gramophone (hold F) and place it again.

If it still doesn't work then, please send a report (to do that, open the console by pressing ` or ~ and type "report" - maybe add some additional information like "cannot place record on gramophone", then send the report) :)

This resolves it, Red. Thank you.

  • We've released a new, small hotfix btw. This time it fixes an issue about an "FMOD error" spamming in chat (mainly happening in multiplayer), eventually resulting in fps drop and a crash.

This update is optional for multiplayer servers.

    Hotfix (2024-02-03):

    • [New] Added setting to disable Steam Friends list in main menu
    • [Change] Slightly updated female player model
    • [Bugfix] Fixed FMOD error spamming (which also resulted in low fps or even crashes) in multiplayer (need feedback)
    • [Bugfix] Fixed issue that background music could play twice in multiplayer when having a high ping
    • [Bugfix] Fixed minor sound issues
  • Wa this causing multiplayer servers to drop off the multiplayer list?

Basically the server list works this way: once a server starts, Steam starts tracking it. Our server regularly queries the Steam master server. The servers which are known to our server can be queried via API: https://api.rising-world.net/v5/serverlist

This is the list the client gets when opening the server browser. Now the client start querying all servers individually (querying the integrated webserver of the server, through the query port [serverport-1]) to get their data - if this query fails or if the ping is greater than 2000ms, the server does not show up in the list.

Unfortunately it sometimes take up to a few minutes until a server is recognized by Steams master server... it tends to be more unreliable nowadays... we're thinking about changing that (so each server communicates with our server directly).

if you can't find the server in the list, you can check out if it shows up in our server list (by opening the link above in your browser). If the server is there, it means the client couldn't query the server. If the server is not there, it means that the Steam master server hasn't recognized the server yet.

  • To clarify, after the server starts up, it appears in the player list, allowing players to join. The server can remain online for hours, but what can happen is that a player disconnects and then searches for it in the multiplayer list, it won't appear again unless the server is restarted—even after the client refreshes the list.

I know this doesn't just happen to MR. Sometimes players think the server has crashed when it hasn't - it's still accessible via the IP address.

I think this sounds like a good idea :nerd:

Oh, that's weird :wat: If this happens per player, it indicates that the particular client is just unable to query or ping the server

Do you have any way to reproduce it? If you can reproduce this on your end or if you know a player who runs into this issue sometimes, a report would be very helpful :) Just send the report right after this issue occurs, i.e after losing connection to the server, return to the multiplayer menu (seeing the server is missing), then connect via ip to the server and if that's successful, send the report.

Wow 🤩 This new version is soooo much better! Real water physics and the terrain generation is beautiful. I just started playing this new version and the building mechanics are amazing. Great work red51 and keep up the awesome work 👍

Thank you so much for your feedback, I'm happy to hear that! :)

Will do. It doesn't seem to happen often, but it has happened a couple of times to my knowledge.
