Yes, for most areas types this is supported (e.g for the creative mode removal or edit tool). But you can only rotate it around the Y axis. To do that, just hold CTRL and use the arrow left/right keys to rotate it (to reset rotation, press CTRL+Backspace)

Oh thanks I was also looking for it

I tried but I wasn't able to rotate anything. I deleted it and re-did the F9 area tool but could not rotate it.

I'm not sure, but I think Xantequia is referring to F9 (1+2).
And I can't rotate anything there either.
Are you two talking about the same tools?
Yes, that is correct the F9 options.
-
I'm not sure if I understood it correctly.
But I think it's the same as with terrain blueprints,
you can only rotate those in one direction as well, by 90 °.

I tried doing what red said but it would not move in any direction.

I'm not sure, but I think you still refers to F9 and Red 51 and Deirdre refers to the F7 deletion tool.
You can change the grid via the console e.g., gridrotation 15
That allows you to set the area accordingly.

Yes. I am referring to the F9 tool. I see the F7 tool rotate as explained above when I try it. Can the F9 area be rotated in an update maybe? I tried the gridrotation 15 but nothing happened.

F9 is the area protection. As mentioned by red51 the rotation in F7 works only along the Y-axis and only in Creative Mode. For the area protection, you do not need a grid.
Why do you need area protection like the one shown in your picture? Just draw a large frame around it, that's much easier.

That is a pvp only zone. The permissions used to make a section on your server to be a "specific area" use that function. plus if you build off kilter to the grid and you want to protect it, the protection zone will be off and may not cover some corners or sections. Here is the start of the F9 protection/make an area feature on a building that was not "snapped" to the grid......
now if I expand that, it will end up looking like this.......
So you can see that the special area/protection area is not able to fill in the gaps unless I expand into the neighboring buildings. So now I have a small section of PVP inside the general store and a small open section in PVE.
