I think half blocks should stand upright

I entirely agree with this. Sometimes you want to build a wall stronger than planks but not as thick as blocks.
This is also a missing option in other building-based games, and I personally think it would improve the building experience, by giving more space to creativity; outer walls, watchtowers, pillars, maybe even sculptures!

All orientations + double the amount when you craft.

There's a technical reason why we can't rotate certain blocks in certain directions. It's probably not a hard fix but I suspect that the possibility of a mistake in the required world conversion ruining existing builds is not something Red51 is willing to risk. We probably just have to wait for the construction overhaul when blocks will be freely rotateable and scalable blocks (basically blocks become construction objects such as beams and planks).

Instead of making horizontal half blocks to go vertical with a key, it would probably be easier to include a vertical half block shape on the shapes list. Of course, nothing its actually "easy" when ot comes to development.

The limitation has something to do with the way a block is represented in data. Each block shape and its rotation are stored as different blocks instead of separate shape and rotation values. So its not possible to add additional block shapes OR rotations of existing blocks. I'm sure there's a good computer sciency solution to it but in the meantime you can use planks and beams to create vertical slabs and you can also spawn them in with any texture id you want so there are workarounds for now.

there are scratches made from the wood

i thought we had a thread about scalable blocks but i couldn't find it.
but somewhere on the forum we suggested such stuff and ended up with the answer that the block system will be reworked and behave a bit like the woodbeam/plank system does

must be added to the game

Well the best option (in my opinion) would be quarter sized blocks. That would enable more creativity with them. You could then easily make "half blocks" with four quarters.
This would also allow for people to build thiner brick walls without having to use planks with stone textures via the pnb plugin.
p.s. and thinner arrow slits on castles
I guess the problems start mounting when you ask yourself what cost do these quarter blocks cost. Does one piece of stone make 8 quarters? Nothing is ever simple X/

Red51 doesn't usually post in the suggestions part of the forum, though rest assured that he reads and takes note of every suggestion mentioned here

Until half blocks are implemented, I have made a small guide for wooden halfblocks.
