Ohh good to know
Nice work on the terrain generation things are really beginning to look very good on this front, guess we will have no more standing on the tip of a needle also will you be adding water/pounds (static or animated) in the first tech demo or is that a way off yet? any screen shots would be nice if you have any
I just saw the new pictures of the mountains in the new world generator. They're looking very natural. I can't wait to see the ocean biome reworked and some small ponds and caves in the forest. Years ago I'd picture how the game might look someday. This is really exciting!

I'm hoping that Unity already has volumetric water handling baked in. Perhaps water is closer than we think. I'm just really looking forward to seeing water streams in caves, like with Minecraft.
zfoxfire that would be just the icing on the cake having flowing water in cave systems and pounds/waterfalls, and I think we all know how hard that must be to implant and look good, after all the water physics in minecraft are very basic and would look so out of place in RW
Thanks a lot for your feedback Groovaholic and zfoxfire

Unfortunately water won't be ready for the demo We've done some preparations for it though, but we still don't have any water shaders ready (the part which makes water look "good"), so whenever we're using water placeholders currently, they just have a plain blue color Like this one:

Unfortunately there is nothing like that available out-of-the-box in Unity (and even if there was something available, I doubt it would work on a larger scale) We're definitely facing some technical limitations when it comes to dynamic water (modern hardware is still not powerful enough to simulate 100% accurate physical water on a large scale), but we'll certainly find a sufficient solution
So, in the Demo, there isn't gonna be any simple building at all? red51 I am asking in case you changed your mind...
Currently it looks like there will be no building in the demo version, however, probably it will become available shortly after the demo release.
Thanks for the info!
Red,
I just looked at the new terrain shots. They look great! You guys are doing a wonderful job.
On the water textures. Can you use the ones in the java version? I know you'll probably have to convert them to a different file type. Isn't there a converter in the Unity package? I like the current ones if that helps.
Thanks Celtic Hummingbird

Well, basically water in RW isn't just a texture, instead it's a result of multiple render passes (to achieve the final look, including depth-based transparency, refractions, reflections etc) We'll probably take a similar approach for the Unity version, but rendering works totally different there. In addition to that, shaders use a different language in Unity (HLSL [the DirectX shader language] instead of GLSL [the OpenGL shader language]), so we have to rewrite them from scratch anyway^^
