This is what I'm really looking forward to. Minecraft has a huge modding community but RW looks nicer and Red wants the game to be modder friendly so I look forward to seeing all sorts of mods like FeedTheBeast, various dino mods, Mystcraft, and ofcourse enhanced shaders like Sonic Ether being re-written for Rising World

There's more servers online to pick from than there are players who play
online.
So there has to be a reason why somebody would pick one server over the other, there's too many 0 - 2 players per server so i did something about it for Freaks R US.

i know this is a old thread but am wondering if there is any news/update to the new server side java api.
I am really eager to convert my lua scripts into java and really make something totally awesome for servers.

A lot of time has passed since the first announcement (especially since some of the "bigger" updates in the meantime like biomes or water took all of our attention), but working on the API is slowly coming to an end. Probably a preview version may be available soon

awesome thnx red, great job with the game so far. to me personally i think it's already 20 times better than Minecraft.

This is an old thread but are there any updates?
Nov 2015 this announcement was made.
July 2016 Red said it was close and something should be coming out soon.

Is this getting closer? I don't want to mess with LUA scripting if it is going away soon, but its been 1.5 years since the announcement was made. Its also 430am and I could be reading the dates wrong lol.

Basically yes, the Java based API (Plugin API) is already available Currently Lua is still supported for reasons of compatibility. Even though we want to discard the Lua API as soon as possible (on the one hand to increase the server performance, on the other hand to clean up the code), we don't want to break anything. Many servers still rely on Lua scripts, there aren't enough plugins available to fully replace all Lua scripts yet (also the API itself is still missing some important features).

Of course you can still use the Lua scripts for your server, for example. It'll take some time until Lua is no longer supported. But if you want to start working with the Lua API, I highly recommend to stay away from it, sooner or later it will be fully removed. In this case it's much more preferable to deal with the Plugin API instead

The API was released but isn't there a replacement for the protection script coming or is a plugin that someone else will have to make? I thought i read in another thread that there was there would be a way to protect areas built into the API.

for area protection I have read that the developers ( red51 would have to confirm that) are working on one. At the same time @Miwarre is also working on one (see here: Area Protection [WIP, Not Released Yet!])

Thanks! Any idea when/if it will be released? I need area protection, but I really don't want to mess with LUA scripting if it is going away.

Unfortunately we have no info on an ETA for the plugin, I think the problem is that the API is currently missing some parts necessary for it. I think all servers currently use the lua script (the server I am an admin in Artisan's Realm included) so no avoiding that for now

Yes the main reason why there has been a stop on the coding of new stuff in the new API is that the API is currently missing some parts necessary for us to finish stuff, once we have those parts added, we can finish what we started oO including a new area protection
