'Official' server stats/list?

For a little while, a web site has been up at http://www.rw-stats.com/ listing running servers with player stats, players with play stats and some other details I have forgotten.

I wonder if this would not be something that JIW could take on, as an official extension to either the forum or the main web site, as they presumably have direct access to all the relevant data. I understand that some data may raise privacy issues, but I imagine that a careful choice of the shown data could minimise these aspects and/or that players logging on a server already (implicitly?) accept that their stats are logged and used.

The usefulness of such a service could be in:
*) no need to start RW to check -- for instance through a smartphone -- if a server is up / updated (not secondary with the WONDERFUL rate of updates going on!)

*) additional data, including history, to compare servers, with respect to the limited amount of info which can fit in the RW server list and which is necessary an instant snapshot with no previous history.

*) more I cannot think of, but someone else certainly will!

Anyone else would like this? Comments? Criticisms?

Das ist eine tolle Sache. Es War damals schon toll ohne ins Spiel gehen zu müssen, zu sehen was los ist.
Bin mal gespannt was ihr da so einbaut und was für Möglichkeiten Eure Stats uns dann bietet. Ich freue mich auf eure Stats.

@red51 Will there be a way to keep stats for a server that changed IP ?
A few servers changed their IP over the course of their lifetime and lost their stats after doing so on the other stats website.

Will the official stats page have a way to keep track of this maybe with a unique server ID or main admin instead of IP adres being the identifier. Or might that complicate things ?

Taking to red you have a server_key file, it sounds like if you change ip or even move your whole server then all you do is copy this key over to keep your old stats, the file contains a UUID which is unique for every server.

Yes, it's as @yahgiggle said, there is a "server_key" file in the server directory which contains a unique UUID. When moving the server to another machine, make sure to move the "server_key" file as well, then there should be no stats loss (if there is no "server_key" file in the server directory, the server requests a new UUID and creates a new server_key accordingly - of course in this case there would be no more reference to previous stats)

I installed on my machine and occasionally run a "local dedicated server" (if this makes any sense!) mostly for script testing, but I didn't bother to fully configure the network and open the relevant ports on the router, as it is not supposed to be reached from outside.

In its folder there is no "server_key" file and the logs complain about being "Unable to request UUID from hive"; it is because of the incomplete network setup?

It's already implemented, but it does indeed require access from outside. If the http port is not reachable, the hive can't get any stats from the server (so it does not assign a UUID to the server, and as a result, no server_key file will be created).
