Update 0.6: Animals

A new update is now available, introducing a lot of new content!
Latest hotfix: 0.7.5.2 (2024-09-10)
  • Hi folks,

A new update is now available which finally introduces the first animals to the new version!

    a4.jpg

In total, this update introduces 29 different animals as well as different variants for some animals (13 variants in total). This includes male and female animals for most animals as well as cubs.

Animals will spawn persistently in unmodified chunks - new animals will also respawn if the animal population becomes too small.

You can now get wool from sheeps by using shears and meat from dead animals by using a knife - currently there is only one type of meat available (as a placeholder), but more types of meat will be ready in the near future. To make the meat edible, you can either cook it on a campfire (by using a skewer), or use the drying rack to dry and preserve the meat (which is easier than cooking meat, but this also takes a lot longer).

Apart from animals, this update also introduces new items: A modern mining drill and an ore detector. Both items can be crafted at the modern workbench. There is also a new playable piano available with this update. We've also added a new creative mode edit tool (F8) - this acts like the "edit" console command, but you can modify multiple elements simultaneously. Right now this is only supported for constrution elements, but we will also make this tool available for objects like furniture or lamps.

It's now possible to store terrain in blueprints by the way. And of course this update introduces various other changes and bugfixes, please find the full changelog below.

We've now also finalized some preparations for releasing a first experimental version of the new Plugin / Modding API. We'll provide more information about that soon - probably within the next 2 weeks.

Stay tuned for the next update! :)

I can't seem to get the update for the standalone version. What do I need to do?

Hmm... it looks like the Standalone is unable to query the latest version from Steam  We'll update the standalone manually, this may take a while unfortunately... sorry for the inconvenience!

That's not a problem. I was just wandering why I couldn't do it. I'll be patient.

  • Single player is working fine for me, but now my game crashes around 20% loaded whenever I try to connect to my server. For a while now the server list has not been loading for me, but that was fine because I could still connect via IP address, but now the game just crashes when I try to connect.

Any ideas what might be causing this? I already tried verifying game files and reinstalling completely.

Hmm... if the game crashes, could you maybe send a report? To do that, just restart the game to the main menu (after a crash), open the console (key ~ or `) and type "report" (maybe add some information like "game crashed when joining server") :)

    Done, thanks.

  • я заметил что на вершинах снежных гор появляется очень много животных, мне кажется что животные вроде коров, свиней и куриц не очень подходят для такой высоты, может можно добавить ограничение высоты для появления животных?

  • red51 thank you VERY MUCH!!! Great additions, server updated fine and even getting better FPS on my gaming rig as a bonus. If I lived in Germany I'd kiss you. :* :drunk:

The standalone should now be updated :) But if you still can't get the update, it may be necessary to validate the files: To do that, go to "Options" in the launcher and hit the "Validate" button.

    Done, thanks.

Thanks for the report! Unity was trying to allocate 17 TB for a shader file :dizzy: The thing is, that part is coming from the engine. Another user was having the same issue (but on his end, Unity was trying to allocate 144 petabyte)...

We've updated the Unity version for this update, so this issue may be related to this...

Maybe try to update your graphics driver and see if this has an impact on the issue. If the issue still persists, please let me know! :)

Oh, thanks for letting me know, we'll definitely change that! :)

  • I've updated my graphics card driver and its still having the same issue. Another player is having the same issue. We both logged out last inside of rather large buildings with lots of textures.

  • Thanks. After validation, I seem to be missing some files or they are currupted. And I wanted to ask for a while. Why is the standalone launcher's download speed capped at 2.2 MBps? Is there any way to increase it?

  • What's that in floppy disks?

Way too many floppy disks :dizzy: More than 100 billion I guess

I've updated my graphics card driver and its still having the same issue. Another player is having the same issue. We both logged out last inside of rather large buildings with lots of textures.

It's weird... the amount of textures basically shouldn't matter, because they're all in a single texture array, so all construction textures are loaded to VRAM during game startup (so shading & texturing a single block has the same overhead as having thousands of blocks with different textures)

You could maybe try to reduce the texture quality (especially the construction texture quality) to the lowest value in the graphics settings (just to see if the crash persists).

Otherwise I could only imagine that this may be related to the Unity version. In fact it's the HDRP which tries to allocate that insane amount of memory... we're currently using Unity 2022.2.7f1 (which was released on Februray 15), but a newer one is available. The changelog doesn't contain anything related to memory allocations though, and a newer version may always introduce new issues, but if we can't find a solution for this, we'll update the Unity version for the next hotfix.

Why is the standalone launcher's download speed capped at 2.2 MBps? Is there any way to increase it?

We don't have an artifical limit on the download speed.. but unfortunately we only have a single download server atm which is located in Germany. Depending on where you live this may have a negative impact on the connection to the server
